  1. how do you do water changers? tap water?
  2. Sure, but also could be released from ships ballast water. when a ship dumps millions of tonnes of water everyday in the ocean you will get unwanted organisms.
  3. Hollywood has had them in the past https://www.facebook.com/hollywoodfishfarm/posts/229289430417949
  4. posted on the auctions, news to me,
  5. maybe, but could also be from ballast water from ships, so we should also ban all shipping. most damage is done by shipping and aquaculture , not always aquarists. Lion fish invasion is sad as they eat everything, but this is a extreme cases , as most species of fish we would like to add are harmless, but anything has some risk. Two possible explanations are releases from ballast waters from ships and releases of aquarium fish. Genetic work shows very little genetic variation which supports the aquarium releases as the source. Work in 2009 reports 8 "halotypes" which suggest the current population of lionfish originated from 8 females, again supporting a limited release from aquariums rather than a larger release from ballast waters. http://www.safespear.com/v.php?pg=59
  6. very poor example, does not really example why we have import rules.
  7. Doubt it would cost $40K. It can be done, but you will need to find experts that can cover ERMAs application, but then it will also be approved by Biosecurity and that can take 2-5 years, they are useless , they deem is not important so they do it when they feel like it. I put a application to them 3 years ago to add a few fish that was approved by ERMA. i got a letter from biosecurity to say that they don't have the funding for it. i told them i will pay for it . then they made up other excuses like they are to busy and it is not a priority.

    Expensive Fish

Every thing is expensive, inflation. So fish prices have to reflect what everything else cost. big reason why fish are expensive is because of MAF(MPI) , they charge like a wounded bull, which impacts the end price.
  9. overpriced, for that money a marine tank would have been better.

    Just wondering...

The forum is pretty dead these days, do people still keep fish :sml1:
  11. Sorry about the fish. Been lucky so far as very few heaters have failed. I tend to stay away from Chinese products. Most are sub standard.
  12. On general they are all hit and miss. many don't take live fish. You have to ask them if they will take fish.
  13. good points, hence the reason after many years experience of finding out that paint and water don't mix i used Seratone as a liner. So far after two years my fishroom still looks brand new, moisture/saltwater does damage the gib and paint over time.
  14. I would put a claim in for your time and loss of income.
  15. It is a issue with all courier company's. So far in the last two weeks. Most parcels have been lost. How can they claim they have track and trace. False advertising. Most of the parcels I sent could not be tracked.
  16. its a load of crap, MPI are just trying to create jobs for themselves by identifying risks, Allowing ships/passengers/imports is a far bigger risk, but they make so much money out of it they seems to forget about it. It all comes down to money. main reason the aquarium industry will be nailed in the near future.
  17. Maybe http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariu ... 58036.html
  18. You can't treat at all, no cure for lymphocystis, should hopefully just go away if it is lymphocystis.
  19. if you don't nee the holes just silicon glass over it, Plumbing can leak over time.
  20. You could leave a power head in the tank and turn off everything else. I assume you have rock in the tank.add a little fish food to the tank weekly to help bacteria.
  21. Aquaculture destruction, major threat to New Zealand tropical fish. http://www.seaweb.org/resources/briefin ... ulture.php
  22. Most of all the fish/shrimp diseases come from Aquaculture and a major threat to the hobby Bio security in NZ ignore this and are focused on reducing importation of fish to New Zealand, The aquaculture industry is big money for the Government so they discriminate against small industry like the Aquarium trade . As time goes by less and less species of fish will be available in New Zealand as some are hard to get now and they are not getting replaced with new species that are always coming up, Trying to add any new species is not a priority for Bio security so if you can get passed the paper work there is another 5-10 year wait to add anything to the limited list we have. I put a submission in 4 years ago to add a few fish and was told they don't have funding for it, i told them i will pay for it as i knew that 99% of the work was already done by Biosecurity as the fish genus is already on the allowable list ,but then they told me it is not a priority. Its not hard to read between the lines.
  23. Its a threat to Tropical fish hobby and aquaculture causes damage to wild fish and the environment.
