  10. Phosphates are in tap water , Whilst using RO is ok ,most of your gravel and rock will leach Po4. Best to do a big water change with RO water again and them put in some Deltec Po4 remover which is iron based and safer than aluminum based removers. When using po4 removers i would also add some buffers as they will drop your PH.
  11. Just use the batts and line with wetline gib board, then i would line with seratone, It is expensive, however will last a long time. water causes so much damage so do it right the first time. I would put some poly on the window, glue with silicone.
  12. hard to test unless you have a idea on what to test for, irdovirus tests is very expensive.
  13. Maybe something, but it could be anything. fish come with all sorts of diseases, so a mentioned it is a good idea to quarantine them when getting new fish.
  14. Good lesson to learn from the losses. Whilst they have been quarantined by importers for 4 weeks, it still is good practice to quarantine fish for a week before adding them to your tank, this will give you time to observe the fish and get them acclimatized to your food etc.
  15. http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/student-sentenced-importing-fish-tank-algae-5114356 Just found the thread missed all the action. Silly thing is that she did get a warning, but continued to bring them in. However No doubt the Fish keeping industry will get more red tap when importing fish. can't wait for the next review when they always put more pressure to close the hobby down Next step is now to ban all shipping/tourist that comes in to new zealand which cause the biggest irreparable damage to New Zealand's aquaculture. Yea like that will happen. easier to blame the tropical fish industry. .
  16. I cant see why they cant match your $5 a hour rate. :sml2:
  17. I quess this will count most people out, The ideal candidate would be a certified scuba instructor and have a current occupational dive medical and the ability to dive regularly.
  18. pond UVs are designed for high flow as mentioned so there is a much bigger space between the bulbs and the water which means far less kill rate.
  19. no good as they are designed for large flow so the water passing threw the UV has a far lower kill rate.
  20. Gyrinocheilus aymonieri. However foot spas are getting banned is some countries as you could get HIV and hepatitis C. Plus it is cruel to the fish as water quality will not be the best.
  21. one is allowed, however the true one is not allowed.
