When I removed him from the tank, there was nothing visible on the outside to indicate what happened to him. Strange though, before he died, when he would fall on the bottom his gills weren't even moving...nothing was then he'd just start flipping around again.

Limegirl when that happened...did it only happen to one fish in your tank???? I took him out...and there was nothing on the outside to indicate there had been anything wrong

OMG...what next Sitting here watching TV look over at tank and one of my platies is doing "somersaults"...flipping all over the tank...then boom...drops to bottom...looks like he's dead...so, I get the net to get him out...and he starts flipping around again....then again, flops to bottom, then suddenly starts flipping around again... WHAT COULD BE HAPPENING...I don't want to loose another fish. He's dead I put a 2nd dose of melafix in tank today...can I test my ammonia, nitrites and ph with that added in there?

So you don't think I should keep up the treatment...it was only the one fish I did treat again today (2nd treatment) because I wasn't sure if I should or not. So do I need to do a water change before I put my carbon filter back in? Do you think it was fin rot? It didn't get white on the end like I've read about and seen pics of...any ideas??

One of my fantail goldfish...ocassionaly gets a spot of black on one of his fins...it is not very big...and just when I think maybe he's going to change color...it goes away...this has happened a couple of times...and he's just fine! So, I don't know about gouramies...but just thought I'd mention I've also experienced this and the fishy is just fine!

Poor Jim the guppy didn't make it Perhaps if I had the melafix as soon as it started I could have saved him I'm really going to miss this little fella. Jim and Slim were the first 2 guppies I had...they spent alot of time chasing and staring at each other...they were fun to watch Now that Jim is gone...should I finish the treatment just in case whatever got him is still in tank??????

Thanks Hummingbird & Caryl I have 2...that was all I could get. I searched the net last night...but the faded color was the only thing he was experiencing, well at least that I could see...swimming fine, eating fine! Looking at him today...he doesn't seem to be as faded as he was last night...so I'll see how he is by this evening. Thanks again!

One of my minnows seems to be loosing his color...please help...any ideas? Tried to get pic...I don't know if you can tell

Klay...I don't know...the dept store doesn't keep plants...the pet store might...but haven't gone out there in awhile...I've been laid off my job so money is a huge issue for me right now :roll:

Thanks all I really wanted to get ottos but was unable to...I know the plecos will outgrow my tank...but hopefully by that time I will be able to do something about it! There was green algae on the back of my tank...but the little darlings got it Oh...I never paid attention to the writing on the bag...but I think what you can see is French.

Thanks I did a 25% water change today, took out carbon, and gave the first treatment of Melafix. I hope I wasn't too late The only thing with the Melafix the directions state to treat for 7 days followed by 25% water change. Obviously I leave the carbon out while treating but the only time it states to change water is at the end? I don't do a water change each day before treating???? Or do I???? Thanks again Oh...and Saturday we lost our power...it was off for 3 hours and 45 minutes...this is the first time it has happened since I got my fishies. I don't know if it had any bearing on my poor guppy but he got a lot worse since that happened?????
