    Introduction

Hi there This site is super! With all your experience, I am sure that you'll be a great contribution here...especially for newbies like me. The people are great here Take care, Caper
  3. How about an update on your goldfish...how is it doing???????

OK...that's it...I'm convinced...no doubts...all you reef/saltwater keepers are really scientists, or oceanographers, or marine biologists, etc...or clones of Jacques Cousteau! How many years of schooling did you guys take to know all this stuff...it truly amazes me
  5. So then, if overfeeding causes "the above"...if all your levels are ok, does that mean you are "not" overfeeding? Do you know what I mean :-? , if ammonia is 0, nitrites 0, pH in "normal" limits...does that mean you are not overfeeding? Sorry Kiwibird, still a tad confused...the tank that you placed your goldfish in...other than the cleaning that you mentioned...was the water in the tank "cycled"?
  6. Hi Lynne Breeding fish...wow...wouldn't even attempt that one...congrats on your new fishies This site is fantastic...the people...well, as usual I can't say enough great things about them...they have been so good to me...and have taught me a lot (still lots to learn though :-? ). What size are your tanks? Take care & have fun! Caper

    "Fire Fire

Sad to hear what happened ....glad to hear nobody hurt & house in tact! Everybody stop picking on the poor pussycat, he may have been trying to cook himself some supper
  8. Unless I'm misunderstanding, you placed them in a "new" tank? If so, how long had this tank been running?

    FISH SOS

What kind of cat fish? Do you mean algae eaters? If so, I'm not sure if you would have enough algae in your tank yet to feed them, what do others think???? And, can he use these when cycling or should he get 2 of something else? I would not add any more fish till someone here who has more knowledge recommends it.
  10. Did you? -float the bag for at least 15 minutes -at intervals add water from the tank -net them and add them to the tank The water in the bag...was it water from the tank you removed them from? When I bought fish from a fish store on the mainland, approx. 2 to 3 hour drive: wrapped in bubble wrap (the bag with the fish in it that is  ), placed in insulated bag, and put bag in a place where it wouldn't get direct sun or get bounced around.
  11. Is this the same as Melafix? If not, I don't have any? Fish out of water for a whole minute...I definetely would have thought that would kill him...along with the stress of being in the net for so long. Darn...I just noticed that one of the neons has part of his tail fin missing, the top part is almost gone!

    FISH SOS

Cloudy when a tank is cycling is normal...ummm....right all knowledgable fishy people What size is your tank?
  13. No change in sailfin's tail fin...doesn't look any worse...doesn't look any better. Not 24 hours since was first noted. Before I go adding the Melafix, should I just keep watch and do nothing unless I see a change (getting worse)...what do you think???????

    FISH SOS

Gee, Bill...I thought he meant his fish named Oscar  Few things: -too many fish too soon, not good -new tank needs to cycle (as was pointed out, you can read about it here) -try to learn what fish are compatable, NOT all fish are -read, read, read -remember sometimes that cute little fish can grow into a huge big fish -don't be so willing to believe everything that pet store people tell you (not to say that all are not good, but some just don't have the experience/knowledge) -all though the more experienced people may not require the use of test kits or regular water changes...we as newbies...these are good things -watch your fish...feeding is a good time...get to know their behaviour, their color, their shape, etc. ....that way, the more you know these things the more you'll know if something is wrong -ask questions, there is no such thing as a stupid question, asking is how we learn...and you will see that the people here are always willing to help & have lots of experience and knowledge -you will find that, as in most things in life, there will be differences of opions...but that's also because what works for one, may not work for another AND...it is sad...BUT...sometimes no matter what we do, we will have fishies die! And don't forget as Bill pointed out...let us know more about what you have! AND LASTLY...have fun, this is a great hobby and remember the people here are fantastic...I'd be lost without them! Take care, Caper
  15. Just checkin on him...there is definetly a thin white, whatever, along the edge. How I wish I could get a small tank to use as a hospital tank...but with no job right now... I just can't do it
  16.
  17. Just noticed this evening...didn't see it earlier. It's 10:18 p.m. here to I'll do water change in morning. I have to get more Start Right. I checked: ammonia 0, pH between 7.2 & 7.6...hard to tell by the light at night!...nitrites 0. As I have said on the other post, I'm thinking I'm overfeeding...even the gravel doesn't look as clean as usual. If this is my problem, could this be causing this...I've started today not feeding as much.
  18. Oh my...what now My sailfin molly...his tail fin...a section shaped like this "(" and hard to see but I think it might be white on the edge...what should I do...scared the same that happened to my guppy...doing a water change tomorrow...should I add melafix???? Pic isn't very good but...and oh there is only 1 red wag platy the other is his reflection...sailfin wouldn't stay still...I took a bunch of pics but...this is all I got PLEASE HELP...
  19. Fisherless...you'll learn lots here too...people here have all kinds of knowledge and are always eager to help us "novices"
  20. Thanks Snowman I didn't get a chance to go to the pet store today...will try tomorrow. Yes, this is one of the islands most popular beaches...until the last couple of years...apparently "raw sewage". When they tested, there were high concentrations of...don't remember...but they had to close the beach. So, that's why I asked about the boiling & contaminants! If I can't get any...he won't die will he? Oh ya...when I put the wafer in today...I did it the same time I was feeding the others and did what you suggested put it close to where he was hanging out...one of the platies was at it too...ocassionally Chong put the run on him   Here's a pic...can you tell...does he look thin???

    Ottos' poo?

Thanks Snowman How come the "anybody" came up 3 times? Hmmm...never had that happen before...was having trouble with keyboard doing weired things today...maybe that's why 3...sorry
  22. Thanks Misnoma :bounce: :bounce:
  23. How come my pics are disappearing...were they too big???? Back to the water...maybe I'm over feeding...that could be it, right? Perhaps I should cut back...maybe over zealous because this tank has more fish than the smaller one & was kinda scared of not feeding enough...but maybe I'm over feeding!
  24. Thanks Next question...ah...he's in the 29 gallon and I know that he will eventually out grow it...it won't be too big for him to take care of the algae will it? I like him...but still don't think they do as good a job as the ottos...but I shouldn't judge...  only had him 2 weeks...and haven't seen any green algae on back of tank like I was seeing
