    Rotten smell!

Last month I was unable to do my usual monthly cleaning of my tanks because I hurt my back. I was doing weekly water changes but not much vacuuming was getting done. In my 10 gallon, there is only 1 ornament that I remove to clean, the rest including my artificial plants stay in the tank (ottos take care of them ). In the 29 gallon (not the new one) I remove the artificial plants & clean them but leave the ornaments in (so that there would be algae for my algae eater) but move them to vacuum. Well, today when I moved my ornament (looks like, sort of a oh heck I don't know what you would call it), anyway the point is today when I moved it...OH MY WHAT A STENCH...horrible, yuk. Some kind of white stuff came from under it too. Now this was not anything that was living, so I was wondering if it was possible remains of my poor sailfin molly that died and disappeard although I have it pushed into the gravel so I don't know what it was. Needless to say, I removed all the ornaments and gave them a really good rinsing. You couldn't smell anything until I lifted the ornament, oh my it was rotten. Anyway, some of my fishies were scratching...a little more than the odd scratch so to speak. I was trying to get the parasite clear that I used last year when my mickey mouse platty was scratching alot. Couldn't get any, but NOW I am wondering if it was the stuff under the ornament that could have been the culprit, what do you folks think????? I'll watch my fishies tonight to see if the scratching has decreased any yet.
  2.  that's how much I know...so what is the "red" stuff in them?

  7. Red eye tetras and tiger barbs? Mind you...I have no idea how I'm going to get them...I haven't seen any here since I got my 2 last summer But just in case, I would like to know if they'd be ok with the above mentioned fishies.

  12. Snowman...how's your fishies?
  13. I can't put him in the other 29 g tank as that's where the fin nippers are! Wouldn't putting him a breeding trap cause him too much stress? So, that leave the 10 gallon with my ottos and goldfish. Can't afford another tank at the moment! I really want to set up a small quarantine tank but just haven't been able to as yet (money reasons). Opinions please

  16. What will :-? As far as what works with fishies, this I've learned so far :-? -what works for me...might not work for you (& vice versa) -same kind of fishies, their behavior...could be the same as your fishies, could be TOTALLY different -no matter what you do...fishies will die -different people, different opinions...opinions are just that opinions -if you want help...ask, but just like other things in life...might not be the answer you are looking for The above is just MY OPINION on what I believe I have learned so far. There is one thing I know, if it wasn't for this site, info on the net...I would not be in this hobby because I would not have learned anything and most certainly would have had nothing but dead fish and a dead hobby!
  17. What a neat idea Looking forward to your pictures Fishkeepa!
  18. Gee...I just posted in another thread asking about your lake, couldn't find this :-? :-? Hope it all gets fixed up soon...I think everybody here is waiting to see the final results :bounce: :bounce:
  19. I would not have guess the neons at all...they always seem to keep to themselves But then, never would have thought of the red eyes either! What is even more confusing :-? is that he's the only one, well the black guppy has a little nick in his tail but has never gotten any worse, looks the same as usual.
  20. http://www.tropicalresources.net/phpBB2/d_profiles_skin_slime_disease.php I don't know if that is any help Snowman. I went to google and so far haven't found anything "white" patches other than the usual Ich & fungus and I know you'd recognize those. So I then googled slime overproduction and went to this site. I sure wish I could help you have helped me so much By the way, good to see you...haven't seen you in awhile...how's your little boy doing?

    Gold Fish Help

No expert but I agree, didn't really look like dropsy but like Caryl said because it looked "fatter" on one side. What makes a fishy become egg bound? For fish that are egg layers, shoot is that the right term layers, anyway do they not just release the eggs every so often?????? I remember way back posting a pic of one of my neons, who was fat but no scales protuding & it was thought to be carrying eggs. The fishy was fine & I do notice every once in awhile a couple of the neons look "fat".
  24. Ah, had to google the word something to do with Star Wars???
