  1. Yep good old chch water, no additives!! I notice it everytime I go down to my sisters in Ashvegas, you can smell their water before you taste it. ewwww!
  2. Welcome from another cantab. good luck with your MTS!!
  3. any idea what the orangey balls of liquid were?
  4. Don't worry each to their own, my work colleagues think I am nuts cos I love my cats and my fish. They just don't get it, so don't worry about them. good luck with your tetras, they are a beautiful coloured fish. I have found that cardinal tetras tend to last longer than neons (good job really considering they cost a bit more) I did manage to gravel siphon a black phantom tetra once, didn't realise he was there, he didn't make it up the tube into the bucket, just got pelted with the flying gravel. I felt so bad for him, but he made it and still lives today . I think they like the siphon hose cos they can see stuff they think is food floating upwards.
  5. If you decide to go to organisms ask the guy in there any queries you have as he is quite knowledgeable about fish, IMO.
  6. ha that is classic. I have a false algae eater that will bury himself up to half his body length into the gravel. His tank is in the hallway and you can hear him from the lounge digging around in the stones. I used to have a harlequin that thought it was his job to guard the front glass of the tank just before bedtime. he would chase away anyone that came near. We called him La Guardian.
  7. give us more details about your set up, cleaning methods, other fishies etc
  8. Can you post a photo? does he have any wounds, bulges or colouration that is unusual?
  9. Hi Craig, hope you enjoy our forum. good luck with your yabby's, any pics would be appreciated.
  10. spend money rainy or windy
  11. As a fertilizer you could also add the 7 balls. I have used them and they have helped a few of my plants grow faster and get established more quickly.
  12. savoury Watties or Heinz?
  13. I have golden gouramis, angels and blue gouramis and used to have a betta in with them, he did alright as long as he stayed away from the angels. But since they stayed more at the top of the tank and he went all over it wasn't really a prob, the gouramis and the betta never had issues
  14. Well done Wok, good luck with your fries!
  15. yep any fish that die left long enough will be eaten or kind of rot away and it is amazing how quickly that will happen. I recently lost a congo tetra and they are not particularly small maybe 6-8 cm long with a round body and I can't find it anywhere, I presume it has been eaten. It was there at night and not the next day, it had been sick so it was not totally unexpected.
  16. i agree with alot of what Alanmin said. I have a 4 ft tank which is deeper than regular tanks and I have 3x30w fluoro bulbs and I managed to grow several species of plants well in my tank, I don't use a CO2 system, but do have an airpump. I find its just trial and error alot of the time, I try to buy plants that are suited to lower light conditions (and there are quite a few) and if I don't know what the plant likes I will buy one and see how it goes.
  17. sounds good ken loach, glad you managed to solve the problem and rather cheaply too. You have motivated me to sort something out for myself too, so my water changes will take a lot less time than they currently do. thanks for that
  18. I would stick to polystyrene and make sure you get a good thick piece
  19. I have been thinking about getting something myself, cos bucketing just takes for ever!! I thought about looking into garden irigation hoses, or even a regular garden hose, but my kitchen tap is a mixer and has a screw at the bottom, so am hoping I can get a screw fitting to go on it and connect with a hose. If you get a hose that goes quite soft when hot you might be able to heat it up under the tap and then force it onto the tap while its still warm, maybe you could get a short length of hose and do this and at the other end of the hose you could have a garden hose connector and connect up a longer length. Not sure how well that would work though
