  1. Yeah I have decided to leave it for a couple of days and see how it all goes. If they get out of hand then I will have to find a way to remove them but in the mean time they are food for my guppies and fry
  2. I do have an air stone running and the top of the water is always moving . But if its free food for the fish then all is good as I got a whole lot more now lol
  3. I took the lid off tonight and had a look at my new babies and noticed that what ever they are they skip across the top of the water really fast. I hope that they won't cause trouble of any sort :-?
  4. Was just sitting there and looking about again and these little things almost look like tiny ants. Some are darker and some are lighter in colour. Should I be worried??
  5. I have just discovered ( while watching my golden guppy to see if she is the one dropping her fry at present ) that while looking really close up at the tank that I have these little white/black crawling critters on the inside of my glass. They don't seem to be in the water and they look as if they walk on the waters surface. What could they be? I would take a pic but my camera doesn't do macro mode close enough to see them and they are only just visible. Have I got something bad lurking about in my tank?? Any help would be much appreciated.
  6. Cheers for that. I think Maxy is having some family issues at present so I don't know when she will set this up with Liz but when I can get a hold of her I will tell her to just set it up
  7. Have we got any other southlanders out there that would be interested in this club?? Would be nice to get things started as I could do with an evening away from the kids! hahahahaha
  8. wow what cute little critters I hope to one day get a female for my male bn (just starting to get bristles ) and breed them but I won't want a tank full of bn's so they would end up getting sold lol Maybe when I get another tank ....... one day.........
  9. I managed to get some batteries today and they are already flat!!!! but here are some pics of my guppies and my main male. You will probably also see some of the tails with chunks missing but my main male is all fine
  10. kk thanks for that Caryl. I just wasn't sure as some people have said to be careful using melafix so I wanted to find out what others did before I went over board lol. Thanks again
  11. can anyone help me? Do I stick with the dosage for the 7 days it suggest to do or am I going to cause more problems? While using this melafix stuff do I still add salt to the water?
  12. I rung fastways, courier post, NZ couriers and they all said they don't ship live animals. I then rung Post Haste and they said they did so thats who I am going to use
  13. Well after ringing many courier companies in the phone book I have found one company that will do over night deliveries and deliver live animals (all the rest won't ship animals) this company is Post Haste. Their over night Delivery is $20 for anything under the size of a box of beers and under 10kgs. Anyone considering sending fish via the post to give these guys a call.
  14. With the attack of my guppies tails I have been told to add melafix to the tank and was also given stress coat. I have followed the insturctions for the melafix and added that to the tank yesterday. Now my question is, it says to add that dose every day for 7 days followed by a water change. Do I follow that or do you guys recommend a different dose?? I did a water change yesterday then added this stuff but I didn't add the salt. So do I still add the salt while using this stuff?? I have guppies, 1 bn and the two bumble bee gobys who are now looking for another home. While I am using the melafix do I still add the stresscoat?? or would the melafix and salt be enough for now? I don't want to kill my fish by trying to over fix them lol. Any help would be great. Thanks
  15. nah I don't want to run the risk of your guppies getting their tails ripped off. You got some real beautiful colours there and it would be a shame to have happen what is happening to me. Billaney has already got a couple of the bees and has said that he will take them to add to his other two. Just a matter of finding out the postage and getting all the gear to do it Thanks for the offer tho MRSkz but I would be for ever heartbroken if I put them in your tank and have this happen to you also.
  16. Well things have gone from bad to worse . I have not had any luck with getting a hold of maxy and things are really bad in my tank now. I removed the gobys yesterday and put them into the breeding net. The guppies seemed fine and I had counted how many of them had bits missing from their tails. I then went out to the pet store and they said that there is no way the gobys would do this and that I either have fin rot or a dominant male attacking the others. What gets me is that when the gobys were removed from the other fish the biting stoped. No more tails were damanged. They then gave me Melafix to add to the water and with their assurence I then added the gobys back in with the other fish. Well with in 30-40 mins of them being back in there another 6 fish had tails either completely gone or almost gone and thoes that were attacked earlier had even more missing. The females are all totaly fine, the only fish affected are the males and the 3-4 week old fry. I had two males left that were untouched but since adding the gobys back they to are now torn up. The thing that gets me is that their tails are not just ripped like a knife has gone through them. They have total chunks missing Well I then decided to sit down and watch since all the kids were in bed and I had nothing else to do and to my supprise I saw the gobys chasing the fish about the tank and actualy saw it bite a chunk off ones tail which only brought tears to my eyes. So maxy I am soooo sorry and I did try to get a hold of you but the gobys need to go. It saddens me that it has come to this as they are awesome little fish. I will be taking them out to East Rd as I don't have any $$ to post them to anyone else in such short notice. Sooo Sorry Maxy
  17. I will have to measure it up. I know that its about 400ml deep I will check tomorrow.
  18. The Co2 system should be ok as the way that the tub is being boxed up I am adding two holes to allow for the bottles to sit hard up against the tank for heat and also surrounded 3/4 of the way around with pink bats as the tub will be lined with. As with a lid I am looking at doing a Perspecs lid. Reason for this over glass is because the surface area is so large (shallow square bath basicly) that I don't want to run the risk of the glass breaking with the lights on top. I will be treating it like my main tank and doing water changes every 1.5-2 weeks ( not regular enough I know but with 3 kids under 5 its a bit difficult to stick to times). I could eventually add a couple of fish I know but to start off with I don't want to. I want to see how stable the whole set up will be due to the size of it. With out using fish I am also able to use chemicals to keep the algae at bay and add fert with out it harming the fish due to murky waters and stuff. At the moment my main task is getting the tub sealed (has a crack in the bottom but hubby can fix that, hes the plumber ) and getting the materials to box it up so it will look like a mini free standing spa. I hope that this all makes sence lol
  19. I wish it was that easy but I don't have the $$$ to buy another tank, heater, gravel, filter and stuff. Hell I can't even get the food that they are supposed to have but was told that they will take flakes if there is nothing else around and apparently thats what maxy said they ate to. They are awesome little fish but I think that they just don't like the bright colours of the males. They need someone who is able to take care of them properly.
  20. thanks for that info. I guess I will have to give them up they are awesome little fish and I had no idea that this would happen. I will see if Maxy wants them back. If not then its off to find another home for them. I really do hope that my guppies tails do grow back. All of my males have been attacked now yet my females are all fine. The only male that hasn't been touched is my black one. All the others are brightly coloured. Sooo Sad.
  21. because its out in a freezing cold garage! the temp won't be consitant out there and its to risky for the poor fishies life. There will be snails unfortunatly as with clippings being donated its going to be to hard to eliminate snails totaly. I don't want to add fish to this tank. Its not what I am doing it for and I have found that my BN seems to enjoy eating some plants so I don't want to be wasting money buying plants to have some of them totaled by the BN.
  22. Yeah I was going to use a filter with no media for a power head instead of actualy getting a power head (filter is cheaper). I can't add any fish to it at all because as I said earlier its going in the garage and it won't exactly be watched and the lights are going to be on timers so I don't have to remember to go out each morning and night to turn the lights on and off so with that I would be asking for trouble if I added fish.
  23. I am now looking into getting a heater for this plant tub. Its about 260lts so would one 300watt heater (longer the better if if I can find one) do the job?
