  1. Eventually I am hoping to get a good amount of albino females so I can hook them up with a snakeskin and hope for some albino snakeskins but that is a little while off in the making lol I am hoping to get serious with my guppy breeding. I would love to breed some more solid half blacks and hope to get some nice blues out of it as well. I don't know if I will give away my first lot of albinos as it would be better for me to keep them to increase my numbers but maybe the next lot I could start handing out
  2. lol that was going to be my next question. What would you pay for a trio of guppies that are albino and are being bred with just their kind in the tank? It was just luck of the draw that I managed to get this guppy from the LFS at all as I went in there and spent our milk and bread money hehehe oh well :bounce:
  3. WOO HOO I shall let you know how things go. I am hoping over the next fortnight to get them into their big tank and with a nice proper light so I can see better but I do have my fingers crossed I will keep the fry in that tank so they don't get mixed with others as there could be a chance that they are carrying the albino gene and once I can seperate female from males I will take all males out that have black eyes but keep all females in there. Will let you know in a few weeks YEEEE HAWWWW :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  4. Well the female that had fry in the albino tank seems to have my hopes up. Instead of a very dark pregnancy spot its a very light pink colour. She had fry about 2 weeks ago so heres hoping for some new albino guppies Or at least a step closer. I got my new tank today which will be divided to hold the half blacks and albinos. Can't wait
  5. Why Killies all of a sudden Tammy? I thought you were doing Chiclids?
  6. Well who ever it is that is comming down this way at christmas can sign me up :bounce: :bounce: I got my new 2ft tank today WOO HOO which will house the solid blacks and albinos. I probably won't get any killies straight away as it took a lot of convincing to get this tank today. My other tanks are to wait till my husband is back at work next year and I guess I can wait a month or two But in the mean time I will sign up when Aquanut (I think its you, correct me if I am wrong) comes down this way. Cheers
  7. Awesome. Do you have any pictures of the ones you have? or a link to a site where you host your pictures? Might have to stop by if we are ever up that way over the holidays. Looks like our day trip could be out the window now with husband being summoned to work. GRRRRR!
  8. Well it was almost over night some of my fish started clamping their tails but my water is fine. pH of 7 and no traces of ammonia. I did a water change and it made no difference. My tank is always done with salt. I had this problem big time with my fry and they told me to use Malachite Green and after a weeks worth of treatment no more clamped tails occoured. Not only do they get clamped tails but they also start to get really skinny and their nice fat tummys flatten off and then they are either sitting on the bottom almost lifeless and then they die. So far only about 5 guppies have gotten to the thined out stomach and sitting on the bottom and thats when I remove them. There was a reasonable amount affected with this but since treating with Malachite green most of them have come right again but there are still the odd couple that clamp their tails up but when I come near the tank they all open up again (yet they weren't before they stayed clamp) so untill they show worse signs I am not removing them. So yeah thats why I have been treating with malachite green. So far its been 4 days with only two treatments (it says repeat after 48hrs). Cheers
  9. Well on the bottle I have its one drop per ltr of tank water and I do a half dose in the morning with the other half in the afternoon (on the advise from the LFS). By morning the tank is really clear again but I will get some carbon today and put it in the filter and full the tank right back up to dilute it down that little bit more. Hopefully I will be able to put the bristlenoses back in tomorrow afternoon Cheers
  10. OOOOPPPSS! hehehe. Didn't realise that
  11. I was bored and done a search on aquascaping to try and get some ideas for the other tanks that I hope to have comming and came across this awesome site that I am sure many of you might enjoy. It has small, medium, large tanks as well as biotype/natural,artificial and paludarium. You can set in what way you want to view these pictures (size). Just thought for thoes who want to give this a go and don't know where to start might get some insperation from here. Cheers http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org/2 ... w-showcase
  12. once I have added carbon how long will it take to clear it. I have reduced the amount of water in my tank to 55 odd liters so I can monitor the amount of malachite green thats in there correctly. cheers
  13. I have been using this to treat my guppy tank and I would like to know how long will it take to wear off so I can put my bristlenoses back? This stuff kills most catfish and I wasn't going to take the risk and find out the hard way so I removed them. The last dose I done was today and the tank is 2/3 full. On sunday could I remove another 1/3 of water and then totaly full the tank back up again? Would this remove or dilute the malachite green to a safe level to put the bristlenoses back? Cheers
  14. Well I was told that they ordered pairs so there should be 5 pairs of killies as there was only 10 fish in the bag. I couldn't find any difference in the tails apart from the one that I could see up the top with the real badly bent spine whos tail was showing a hint of yellow. But as I said before I would much rather get the ones that I like instead of paying for ones I don't hehe I am hoping to get my first tank this weekend so it will free up one tank. Cheers
  15. they are only 2cms long. They have blue eyes and very solid black thick stripes on them. Their tails are rounded with no colour at all so I can't tell Female from Male and I doubt that they can either. They have $6.50 on them. They keep telling me that they are imports but as mentioned I would of thought that they would of been more expensive for imports. They are even talking about raising the price of their fancy guppies if and when they get them in up to $10 per fish I don't like the clown ones but I know that werner is down here and he has some killies. Maybe he might like to breed these ones.
  16. Yep I think joining the NZKA is defenatly on the cards at the moment. Still need to get a tank sorted so I will wait till then or untill I can free up one of the smaller tanks to house the eggs Cheers
  17. ok after telling me they won't get them in because they don't live that long they got killies in today so I went and had a look. Well I was really shocked to see what size they were. They wer lucky to be 2 cms long and she said that they would be 6 months old and ready to breed. They are the clown killies which I don't really like. I don't know what prices they are putting on them as they were still getting the fish out of the boxes. I would like to know how old would they be at 2 cms long? Also 1/3 of them had real bad bent spines like they were a figure "S" shape and didn't look very appealing. Guess I will just have to join the NZKA and attempt to get the ones that I like with out relying on the budget LFS we have down here. cheers
  18. WOW I really like the looks of the Gardneri albino. They look soo pretty! How do you go about hatching the eggs for thoes ones? All I have found out is that they are a switch. So I am really over that lol cheers
  19. I didn't know that there was a size limit as such!!. All I do is upload them to photobucket like the rest of you do and then post the section to the thread and the pictures come up large but once fully loaded they resize by themselves. Not that my pictures are anywhere near the standard of yours which I to think are totaly awesome and can't wait till I get my new camera next year with a 2cm macro mode . Don't stop putting pics up. I totaly love the pictures you took of your two bettas doing their dance (or fish porn lol) But I love them
  20. The filter is a internal mechanical filter with a sponge insert. The light is in the hood unit so it is one. They sell the filters for $35 seperate on their shelves and the tank is brand new glass not second hand. I was just wanting to make sure that I wasn't being riped off lol. They do make 3ft tanks for $74 but that comes with no filter, no light and no glass lid so I don't think its worth it. BTW my husband wont' go into the brewery. He don't like speights. lol :bounce:
  21. Thanks so much for that. If I get time and if the husband lets me I will do my best to stop by at least one of the places Cheers
  22. If all goes well I just might have to sign up if you make it this far. I don't have any trips planed to queens yet and after finding out that my husband has to be on call over the holidays doesn't impress me as I was wanting to go up to dunners. If you like I can give you my address and phone number for when you come this way and if possible what species will you try to bring with you? Cheers.
  23. HAHAHAHAHAHA Caserole nice try but these young guppies will be up on trademe before long. Some are starting to colour up nicely. Got one nice half black orange tail and I think there "may" be a couple of snakeskins in there but waiting for the rest of the colours to show up. Well depending on the price tomorrow will tell me if I go ahead and get a pair or not and also depends on their colours to. If it doesn't work out then I guess eggs are the next step cheers
  24. well apart from my 2ft which has guppies in it the only other tanks that I have that are fully covered are the 15ltr tanks thats why I was asking if this size would be ok. It currently has heater and a stingray filter as it is holding some young guppies which I will put into the main tank if I get any of these wonders of the world lol. The tank is 35L x 20H x 21D (cms). The 20cms high is where the water level would stop. It is slighly smaller at the bottom but not by much. Cheers
  25. LOL caserole. I know what you mean. Her guppies are $6 per fish and that includes the ones that others bring in to her localy (like my own) I don't know what to expect in the way of price but could anyone tell me what it could be for a pair? As I said I have no idea what species they are as they said that they couldn't remember the names either so I will just have to go and see. But my main question is Could I put 1 pair of killies into a bare bottom 15ltr tank for about a month? Just untill I can get all my tanks sorted and stuff. Cheers
