    Breeding

Where are you from Chakuna? Maybe I could come around and show you. Alan 104
  2. Better than being on the floor tho. Opps, better make more than one line. If you notice the shape of their mouth, you will realize that they are surface feeders. So being at the top may signal that they are waiting for some food. OR maybe Short of oxygen. Alan 104
  3. About four to six days Phillz. But a sure sign of when to feed them is when they start free swimming in the water column in a group or what would be termed a school, not just jumping up and down splashing their fins just as a singular fish. Alan 104

    High Amonia

I have heard on other forums, that using the ammo-lok on a tank, takes you straight back to square one. ei. An un-cycled tank. But then; who the heck am I to say anything, I don't use ammo-lok. Just a thought to consider tho. Al 104
  5. Sounds like you need to invest in a Quarantine tank to stop cross infections. Think about it. Is it worthwhile adding a sick fish to you collection only for it to infect the rest of your tank. Even to the extreme of wiping it out. Just need to set it up to the same water parameters as your main tank. Bare bottomed, and with a box filter running in it. Have a guppy or two in it and they'll keep the tank in the cycled condition, while the tank is not required for quarantining. I'd suggest actually, to have two box filters in it. Then when you are going into quarantine mode, flick one into the main tank while the other gets contaminated, and then it will require a full cleansing for the next setup. The one you flicked out can now go back into the newly setup q. tank and there will be little or no trouble with your cycled tank. Alan 104
  6. You don't need correcting Cees. You are correct, and any indication that our "leaders" wish to pollute our water supply with this additive should be stongly resisted. Alan 104
  7. Nope Throw away the commerical "cycle" stuff, IMHO it does absolutely nothing except maybe provide ammonia content to the water, not "live bacteria". Your fish are now doing that job and if the tank has cycled, it will continue to do sol as long as the filtration syatem doesn't crash. I always squirt my tap water HARD into the storage containers, thereby releasing most of the chlorine from it, but after three days there is near enough to nothing present. Just make sure your temps are close to one another when adding your water change though. Alan 104
  8. Alan sneaked out just after seven this morning and left town at 7 30am. Good trip home Didn't get lost. Arrived home at 12.45pm Had three stops on the way so take off 40 minutes. One was close to 20 minutes while a herd of cows dispersed. Good company. Well, most of it was. Great catching up with old buddies and making new friends. Congrates Mitch, Debbie and others who after all ya had to go through, it turned out okay. Start getting ready KapiMana for next year. Alan 104

I have put this here as it concerns one of our members, 16 year old Reender NZKA 252. Known in the chatroom as RB It is with very great regret that I have to inform you, of the passing away of Reender's NZKA 252, mum, at 2.00am this morning. She was a lifelong friend of Rose's and will be sorely missed by all her knew her. Free at last, a patient sufferer. Deepest condolences from the NZKA to him, Kurt, and his family. RIP Alan President NZKA 104 Reenders email is buikemasatxtradotcodotnz
  22. I use the lettuce leaf, lead weight, and string method. (I better put down how I do it hadn't I?) I tie the string to the lead weight. The lead is about 5mm wide and 50mm long. I wrap the lettuce leaf into the lead. Submerge all into water. When the trap has been in long enough to get a reasonable amount of snails on it. I carefully remove the string, weight and snail infested lettuce leaf, and remove the snails to "where ever". Hope this doesn't cause confusion and it is understandable, also I notice it is keeping to the thread as well. Alan 104
  23. Surely a one liner leads it onto others saying "wow ! I wonder if you can do that??" and create more interest in the whole thing. Shame it was chopped. But now the rest of the readers of this thread know what I said without me saying it again. Alan 104
  24. I'm not apoligizing for the post that got hit by a mod on a mod. I have read of this operation being done, and now because of this PC "hit it first" attitude, you, the reader, can't improve your knowledge. What I wrote was constructive, not joking and my mouth does not need the same op as the original complainant says. When you have a very rare and hard to breed species you will attempt any thing to keep the line going. I was not trying to interrupt a thread but add to it. So don't let this interrupt a "livebearer thread", carry on with your posts. If you want to know what I said PM me. Alan 104
