  1. Siamese algae eaters aka flying foxes are great for keeping down the algae but they do still need to eat normal fish food. They are herbivore so don't bother with the blood worm  Awesome peaceful community fish - I have then in my fighter tank and have no problems at all. They are bottom, mid dwellers and like a PH level of around 6.5. try looking at this site for more info and how to be sure you are getting the real mccoy in the fish shops. http://www.thekrib.com/Fish/Algae-Eaters/
  2. Hi Kim Jack was only a wee teenager I think - He certainly had some more growing to do. How very exciting - what price am I looking at for a pink one? Keep me up to date and thanks ever so much :-)
  3. heheheheheee Caryl - i like the way you think. Man of the house is currently pricing up a 4 footer for me - with stand and all accessories of course......... He gets a guilt look on his face everytime i look sadly at my empty tank............
  4. In the weekend I found out - Don't let the man of the house help in maintaining your siamese fighter. I'm sure everyone here is well aware I dote (doted being the correct word now) on my Siamese Fighter. I realised in the weekend one of the fish (I think it was the glowlights) was chewing on his tail, so I put him in a small 15L tank until I had upsized the original with the intention of letting his tail grow out and making him healthy again. Sounds good so far right? Just to make him less depressed I put his best friend (the female fighter - Shirley) in and made his temporary new home nice and tidy with plants etc. Jack got depressed and stressed about moving house - can anyone blame him???? So what happened??? Man of the House decided the heater should go up another degree or two in the hopes it would boost Jacks spirits and didn't realise he had in fact boosted the heater to a whooping 32 degrees. I no longer have Jack yet Shirley survived. Now we have one man in the dog box, one beautiful fish that is but a memory and one cross yet sad housewife. I figured writing about it would make things easier and all it's done is make me wonder why the hell I got so attached to a fish in the first place................. Moving on - anyone know where I can obtain a pink male fighter??? And the name Mick keeps coming to mind.............
  5. Try some Rainbow fish - they don't get overly big but they certainly radiate some much needed color
  6. I have a betta (Jack) who is the light of my life so I'm naturally very wary of what I put in with him. Personally, I have found Jack preferred to have only one of the females with him - if I add others he kills them and hangs onto the older one each time, yet he's never tried to breed with her. I have Albino Corys and dwarf gouramis. He's fine with them and has no stress at all. He hates the glass cats and vice versa, I have only just realised they pick on him so they are about to be rehomed. Admittedly, I think Jack is a bit gay, soft and strange in the head though. The first tank he was in had neons in it and he kept eating their tails, so i rehomed him but made the mistake of putting the tanks side by sde - everytime he sees the neons in the other tank he gets rather anal and puffs himself up. Personally I think the neons called him names and he feels he needs to assert authority to let the rest of the community think hes a man. Serious, having Jack is the best. He comes to the front of the tank whenever I sit in front of it and does little "dances" for me showing off his gorgeous blue and red hues. Despite the challenges I have had in introducing him within a community I still think He's worth his weight in gold (which probably isn't much come to think of it............"
  7. That is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous!!!! Well done.

    pink fish

definately the albino corys - in sayiing that, it depends entirely upon what kind of light you have. I have a light which has a lot of red tinges and some of the fish i saw in the shop which looked "silver" have turned out to have quite a bit of pink tones.
  9. Thanks heaps everyone for your help - just to keep you all up to date, last night I got the shock of my life!!! My partner found a mossie and put it in the tank for my fighter to gobble up, play with, whatever he wished to do and would you believe, one of the glass cats came out and started nipping at my darling, butting him and generally being a nasty peice of work. My mind is made up - the nasty meany glass cats can be re-homed and my fighter can rest easy that in future, all mossie's will be his and his alone. Now I'm off to buy some more corys............. ciao bellas
  10. I have a wonderful Siamese Fighter who I have learnt doesn't like neons. I transferred him to another tank over three weeks ago, added some albino corys then put in some glass cats. He seemed fine, no stress and carried on his normal gorgeous way until today, 5 days later I find out he's killed and pratically eaten one of my glass cats?!?!? Hollywood Fish Farms told me glass cats we're the "friendliest" of fish, to get four of them so they school (which I did) and all they did was hide, coming out only in the dark. Am i wrong in assuming my fighter has now decided he dislikes both neons and glass cats. Am I not feeding my fighter enough? And last but not least - should i take the risk of buying another four glass cats (making 7 in total provided no more get chomped) in the hopes of making the fighter tow the line a bit??? (or could this just provide him with even more hunting/morbid play)
  11. i named my fighter Jack - bugger the neons and stuff - they aren't worth anything ext to my darling Jack (lets ignore the fact jack is mine and all other fish in the tank belong to my partner)
