  1. Actually I don't know what it is. Cookie said it looked like a Montipora Digitata. Are you able to confirm?
  2. Pies, you will like the 8080, it is such a great camera. I was going to get that model, and decided to go for a DSLR for even more flexibility, although it would be good to get that model too, just as a smaller camera to lug around. I totally agree with the battery comment, but you will find most DSLR will have their own proprietory batteries, which is a bugger, but some of them have an optional grip which uses AA batteries
  3. It's a very nice coral, but just reading about it, I don't think I will get this one. I'd say more for the experts!
  4. Yeah, and guess what, this was taken with my old 1.3megapix camera I've had for years. Olympus C960 I think. Waiting on a macro lens for my new DSLR. [Free Tip] If you save the picture onto your computer, go into the Properties and then press the Summary tab and this will give you a breakdown of all the cameras settings and what camera took that photo. Gives you hints and ideas to try with your shots.
  5. Yeah man don't they look cool!!   Just kidding.
  6. Digital Cameras are like computers, they are going down in value all the time, but you could be spending ages just waiting for the right one at the right price and never getting one! Just bite the bullet and purchase one at the cheapest price you can find. I looked extensively for a DSLR and was going to purchase the Canon 350D but was slightly more than what I wanted to spend, and also I find the Canon menus not as intuitive as the Olympus. I eventually chose the Olympus E-300 - now superseeded by the e-500. Got this on E-bay for under NZ$1000 with 2 lenses! The good thing about the Canon are the lenses. They are more readily available and "slightly" cheaper than the Olympus lenses which are few and far-between at the moment. The picture quality of them both are on par although I think the Canon is slightly better. I suggest you go to a camera store and test out the cameras and choose one that best fits your preference.
  7. Worth getting or not? As I have heard it is hard to keep.
  8. Has anyone any experience in these corals. They look really nice and saw one at the fish shop.
  9. Here's a better photo of the Blasto. My new Acro. My Hydnophora. My Yellow Leather. I've been playing around with the exposure and did some + and - and found I took better photos with a -1 step down with the MH on and a -0.5 with the blue lights on.
  10. Has anyone created shelving to place corals on top in their tanks? If so, do you attach it to the glass some how or on stands? Obviously egg crates are the go.

    New corals

    Looks really nice IRA.
  12. Here's an update on my tank. Since I'm using RO the diatoms have reduced, but also I'm using Rowa-Phosphate remover which is helping too. I think I'm starting to get green algae growing! Last week I finally got some live stock.... A couple of Ocellaris Clown Fish. And a Cleaner Shrimp. Which recently shed. I now have an Acro frag with thanks to Sharkey. Not sure what type it is so any help would be greatful. And thanks to Brianemone for this great specimen of Blasto! It now looks better than this photo, so really healthy specimen. And a sideview of the tank...
  13. As the subject says.... Would you get more bubble algae if you pop one? Cheers Helifaxnz
  14. Probably because white will look dirty after a couple of days.
  15. May I ask what type of camera and lens you use to take these fantastic photos? I like your anemone.
  16. Just had my wife saying the tanks leaking!!! Fortunately it was the Tropical! So off home I go.
  17. Hmmm... I may leave getting another hermit. Bit cruel to have a cold water one in a tank that's always 26oC.
  18. I did take my time acclimating it, but obviously it didn't like where it was.
  19. R.I.P. Checked today and dead as a Dodo. My kids ain't going to like this. They were looking on the beach yesterday for shells for "Hermie".
  20. What's that Brianemone?? More like Crab-A-TTack!
  21. It is VERY SAD Thanks for the link. Very informative, though a bit too late for my hermit.
  22. Just noticed tonight one of the Hermit's pinchers, then later noticed another one, then the legs!!!! I had a look in the shell and Hermit was still in there with eyes peaking out. Anyone know what's happening? It just looks really sad seeing the arms and legs.
  23. My lid is split into 2 so half of the lid is on, the other half is raised on one side so my fan can blow cool air in to circulate and reduce the heat. I have recently added fly screen to the open lid to stop any fish jumping out.
  24. You would get more answers if this was posted in the Saltwater section. My Marine tank has been up and running for 2 months and have the brown algae. This is normal because there are phosphates and silica in the water which the algae feeds on. Eventually it will go away, but what has been recommended and I'm currently using is Rowa-Phosphate remover. Basically place some in a filter sock and put in with your filter. This stuff will last for ages, 6mths + and will absorb all the phosphate and will not seep it back into the water. Good luck and if it is still a problem, post in the Saltwater forum. Cheers.
