  1. These are all coming out of the Live Rock I got from Jetski! It's just amazing what I'm finding each day. Exciting!
  2. Thanks Wasp. Most appreciated. Here's something that REALLY SURPRISED ME.... What is it??? Is it safe to keep? I'm just amazed at what is popping up since I added the sand (probably a co-incident). Cheers
  3. I thought it was something like that. Yep my tank does have diatoms and it is starting to form on the glass. I'll have to get a magnetic cleaner soon! Can you guys let me know what the following creatures are... This definately looks like an anenome. It has tenticles like one, but it is translucent. When I had the MH on it was wide open and now with the blue lights it has closed. Is this a safe one to keep? The next looks like a polyp. Thanks in advanced. P.S. does anyone know where I can get some turbo snails (for the diatoms)?
  4. Thanks Chimera, but that will just rip the cr*p out of my sump + more!!!! I think it's a bit too big for my tank/sump.
  5. Yes, bought a Prizm Skimmer until I can afford a better one down the track. Oh well, see what happens and go with the flow. Thanks for all your comments and advice.
  6. Oh. I did rinse it out about 3-4 times. So is it good or bad ?
  7. I have now added 9kg worth of Coral Sand from HFF (bloody expensive at $50 bucks  . I thought it was for a 15kg bag, when I got home and weighed it it was only 9kgs!). Anyway for you other guys, Jansen has 10kg bags for $35. After adding the sand, 1 1/2 days later I start getting colour coming out of the live rock. Here's a couple of pics. First pic was on 6/12/05 8:10pm Second pic was on 7/12/05 6:37pm (tonight) I hope it is all good
  8. Thanks Wasp. I've been looking at the site LiveAquaria earlier and it is a great site to findout what's good and what's compatible. I guess also if you are stocking more fish and corals, you would need a bigger skimmer.
  9. Hi folks, Just been thinking what the limits are for the amount of corals you can have in a tank. Also fish and corals.
  10. I saw in one of the DIY's someone purchasing a beer fridge and drilling a couple of holes through the top and using hosing, coiled it into the fridge and using an external pump to pump the water through. Not sure whether it worked efficiently or not, but Hey, you can buy a small beer fridge second hand for $100 bucks!
  11. Jimmy, at the moment we all host our own and then use the Img button in the Edit to add the image link.
  12. Thanks Reef. Just an update on the tank: This morning it is crystal clear. Micro bubbles are down to just 1-2% showing. Tests from last night 3/12 11:10pm: PH=8.3 Nitrite=0 Nitrate=0 Temp=26o Salinity=1.023 (using a digital salinity tester) S/PPT=31 (using a digital salinity tester) Ammonia=0.6 So all good so far.
  13. So should I get the bag that says Coral? What is Calcite? Or maybe checkout what Jansen has. Anyone else sells Coral or Aragonite on this forum???
  14. HFF has a sack of Aragonite and a sack of Coral Sand.
  15. No haven't forgotten. Thought I would build up the mound first then let it settle and make sure I get rid of the micro bubbles before adding any sand. I was thinking of Aragonite and Coral sand mixed. Is it better mixed or just have Aragonite?
  16. One other thing. I have a UPS. At this stage I have the heater and the pump from the sump connected to it. Would this be ok as the extreme basics if the power goes off? I was just thinking of changing this to just the two little in-tank pumps and that's it. Would that suffice too?
  17. Thanks guys. It has helped a lot and is now much quieter. I may need a little wool to totally get rid of the bubbles, but basically it has reduced it to about 90%-95%. I got some LR on Friday with thanks to Jetskisteve and bought one big one from HFF which I cut down. I needed a larger one for more height. I wouldn't mind a little more height though. Here's what it looks like. A bit foggy right now. Here's a full view of the tank tonight - a little bit cleaner. Been waiting a long time for this!! Can't wait to add stock.
  18. Right, I have added the NSW and have noticed the temperature is 1 degree higher than using Freshwater. Still in a respectable temp of 25.3oC. Here are some pics... I added black acrylic around the top because the bright light was just too strong for me. Definately much better. Now I do have one problem! Micro bubbles!!! All being generated by the overflow to the sump. You maybe able to see in the picture above. Do you guys have any suggestions on minimising this? I do have more flow to the sump now that I have the Laguna 5. Thanks.

    Skimmer test

Sorry Brian... but Ghostface said Typing it out doesn't count. So an audio tape of him would be proof!
  21. Thanks Wasp for your help and hints and tips. It was most welcomed. Definately easier to use the buckets with the lids! I've filled up the tank and everything seems fine so far. Next visit will be JetSki for some LR.
  22. Yes, our lounge can reach upto 30oC, so I'll expect a broad of catfish during summer. Also it is a good idea to let the male BN have a rest and recoup before he starts fanning another lot of eggs otherwise he would be too exhaustive.
  23. Will do. Hope to see you down there. Anyone else is most welcome. Probably between 7 and 8pm. Would you like to pop down again Jetski? Grab another 80 litres or at least another 20 litres since I'll be grabbing 20 from you some stage soon.
  24. My Bristles used to have a batch every month. I have found since I have reduced the temperature to 25-26oC they have not breed, but when I had it on 26-27oC they just kept at it all the time!!! I have 3 brown bristles and 3 golden bristles (which only bred once). I have kept the temp at 25 for 5-6 months and noticed they have not bred.
