  1. Have to agree. Works well when I drilled a hole in my Hansen tank fitting, water side.
  2. JetSki... I was going to go down last night, but didn't have my tank drained. Will go down tonight or tomorrow. Do you just back your car down the ramp and pump up the water? Or do you do the manual work of buckets? After all I did see about 100 bucket left
  3. Besides from high tide, when's a good time of day to collect NSW? i.e. in morning or in evening before a certain time?
  4. Have a look in private trade. There is someone selling theirs on Trademe for start bid of $750. That will get you going quickly.
  5. A quick update. Have modified the Durso to 25mm and working much better. I have also changed it so one is sucking in the water to the sump while the other I have reversed the U bend upwards so it is a safe guard for when/if the other one has something stuck in it, the second will take in the water so the main tank doesn't overflow. The noise from the water entering the sump is still VERY noisy. I'll have to work on this one. Most of you will have a cupboard underneath your tanks that you can close, but my sump is down the bottom exposed. I've also noticed that my temperature is stabe on 24.5oC whether the light is on or off which is sweet! Tested the lights and they are all switching on at the right times that I have set. Now I need to drain the freshwater and go down the road to get some NSW. Cracker - I haven't forgotten to call you to checkout your system. It's just been chaotic at home. Will call you later this week. Maybe see you after work on Thur or Fri if suits. I'll try taking more photos when I can.
  6. Thanks Brian. And is your one nice and quiet? Do you find the water noisy when it exits the piping in sump? Are there any good ways to quieten it down too? Thanks
  7. Well, I got my Laguna fixed. It was the impeller and HFF replaced and all sweet! Only problem now is that because I have more flow, my overflow is now making lots and lots of noise. I did make the mistake of having the overflow pipe the same size as the bulkhead (plumbing size is 20mm). What size overflow piping do you guys recommend for 20mm plumbing?
  8. So is it just fish that you should quarantine or everything? forget what I have just asked. The article has just answered it. Great find Wasp!
  9. I have a Fish Mate F14 which has a total of 14 meals. Found this to be good. Uses batteries to operate. Good for flake food, but not designed for wet stuff. Can plug in an air pump to help stop humidity and you can set it to have upto 4 meaks a day and have night feeding if required too. This was used on FW.
  10. I bought a back issue off Redwood Aquarium via Trademe. Nice glossy magazine. Good reading, but definately heaps of advertising. Reminds me of the american mags. A few articles and heaps of pages of ads. Haven't seen or read any of the Coral mags so can't comment.
  11. I thought that might be the case. Will a stepdown transformer cope with being on 24/7?
  12. Just wondering whether you use less power when using a step down transformer to 110v and have a 15W pump plugged into it?
  13. Took it back and they didn't have another one spare so they're going to order a replacement. They recon it could be a faulty impeller. So will hear from them Mon or Tuesday.
  14. I've dis-assembled the impeller area and found that there is a lot of movement forwards and backwards which gives a knocking sound. After re-assembling I placed it in the water, switched it on and then covered the outlet hole to give it some back pressure. Sure enough it started to make the knocking sound. If I place the water inlet facedown and tried the back pressure again, it was fine, or at least very little knocking. I'm going to contact HFF and ask them about this.
  15. Yes, definately. Sounds like the noise is coming from the impeller and not from any vibrations.
  16. I've plugged it all in and boy is it LOUD!!! I tested the pump by itself and it was fine, but when I connected it up to the hose it is very loud. It does however have to reduce down from 25mm to 20mm for the SCWD. Any suggestions?
  17. Decided to get the Laguna 5 which pumps over 4800 l/h. Do you guys recommend using a stainless steel hose clip to keep the clear plastic hose in place on the return on the pump? Remembering that the pump will be submerged. Cheers
  18. Bought my AR980 from you (gold) and touch wood, have no problems.
  19. Yes, that's the one on Target Road.
  20. "Hansen Tank Fittings" Bought mine from Mico in Rosedale Rd (for $7.93 each) area near HFF. Also bought different parts of Hansen fittings from Mitre 10 Glenfield, Westgate, Lincoln Rd. Bunnings have very limited amount available and I don't even recall whether Placemakers have them.
  21. While you're waiting for your little one to go to school, you could still start purchasing equipment as you see them on special. But first of all, you do need to decide on what type of tank you want and what size, etc. Keep reading about the subject.
  22. Well so far it has cost me $1400.00 and that's without sand, rock and live stock!
  23. Hi folks, I just saw a solar powered flouro for garden sheds, etc. It charges up the batteries then you can flick on the 2x 8w flouro's Supposed to last approx 5 hours. Was very tempted to buy it, but I really need a light sensor for a switch so when the main lights go off, this will switch on for the sump. Anyone have any suggestions? Can you dismantle a garden light and use that sensor to wire it all up?
  24. Well done Hazy... You're further ahead than I am.
