    Greetings

Hi Tu It looks like you have been thoroughly welcomed to the site already but Welcome from me anyway. How long have you been fishkeeping? MCT

    hi pplz

Welcome along! Hope you enjoy the site! MCT
  5. If it were my fish I certainly would have tried to save them. After all where there is life there is hope! In saying that I can understand that dealing with the fish and the aftermath of a house fire might be too much to cope with. MCT
  6. There is no need to do a 100% water change every six months. Regular partial water changes are all that is needed. As you said, doing this could disrupt the cycle on your tank. MCT
  7. Good luck, Rahina! Hang in there and your tank will cycle! Sorry to hear about your latest losses though . MCT
  8. Welcome along! It sounds like you are jumping into the hobby in a big way. How big will the new tank be? MCT
  9. Good advise, Caper! I usually do the "hold finger over end of hose in bucket while holding up gravel vaccum after filling it with water" technique but I might give your "speed" technique a try. BTW Welcome along! MCT
  10. Welcome along! It sound like you will have plenty to contribute to the site - when you are not busy with all those tanks! MCT
  11. Welcome along! I hope everything goes well with your tank. MCT
  12. Welcome to the site! Sorry to hear about your fish losses and good luck with your fantail. My daughter has goldfish and my son has tropical fish. I am still waiting to get my own tank(s) though! Look forward to hearing more from you. MCT
  13. Welcome along! I'm glad you found us. It looks like you are settling in well. MCT
  14. Welcome along! It is great to have a NZ site - so much local knowledge and information. Look forward to hearing more from you. MCT
  15. Welcome along! Good to have another international perspective on the forum. I look forward to hearing more from you. MCT
  16. This is a 'poop' page on a goldfish forum I refer to: http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/GoldfishPoop.html It could just be constipation which goldfish are prone to. MCT
  17. Welcome along! Best wishes with the tanks. And keep those photos coming! MCT

    Help

Like Caper, I also feed my goldfish peas once a week. They love them! I also fast them one day a week. Now that it is coming into winter it is even more important not to overfeed them if the tank is unheated. In the cooler weather their systems slow down although they will remain active. I only feed mine once a day at this time of year. I just checked the temperature of the tank today and it has dropped to 16 degree celcius with the wet weather we have had here. I hope your tank stays clear (after all we keep fish so we can look at them!). MCT
  20. Good to hear that things are going well. Your fish should be fine for a few days without being fed. Feeding blocks can upset the balance of things and I don't know of anyone here that uses them. An automatic feeder can be good if you will be away regularly but can be expensive. Fry would be an exception to this as they do require regular feeding. When I am going away I just feed my fish as normal (not extra or the tank could get dirty) until I go and then pick up feeds again when I come back. I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences. Have a great time away! MCT

    HI THERE

Welcome along! You'll find yourself in good company here. Obsession with fish is quite normal I thought! MCT
  22. Welcome along! I hope we can see photos of your set-up soon. That is quite a deep tank to light but I do like those cube tanks. MCT
  23. Welcome along! I look forward to hearing more from you! MCT
  24. What size is your "small" community tank? Small has a wide range of meanings when it comes to fish tanks! BTW Welcome along! MCT
  25. That sounds like plenty of new fish to me, Shelley! Our current tanks are fully stocked so I am having to be very patient until I get another tank. Those bristlenose catfish are adorable, aren't they! 8) Hope they all settle in well. MCT
