  2. Well it all sounds to good to be true.... unfortunitly most thing too are just that. But keep talking about it as if it is so good then I'm in with bells on.
  3. What do you all feed your blue tangs ? Mine seems to be the last to eat, clowns first. I use spirulina and mysis flakes. Do tangs eat mysis flakes ? (dumb question but what is mysis flakes)
  4. It is a red banded coral shrimp - very cool. A good size and is feeding well. I feed him some shrimp tonight. Just put it on a rock and he found it.

  6. I have just added a Blue Tang to my tank and the dan stark is attacking him. There is lots of caves and holes but the tang just trys to hid and the stark finds him and attacks agin. The stark leave my little clowns along as long as the stay near the top of the tank in the corner, they seem ok, will the tang and the stark sort it out? 4ft tank. 2 x clowns 1 x Blue tang 1 x stark damsel Also added a boxing shrimp looks cool.
  7. Do you need to have PH sponges on PH's ? They all have good guards etc but do they need the filters, thinking of having to clean them ? I have a sump and looking at adding a second sump. Also looking at a wave make and 4 x PH's for my 4ft tank. Plus sump return.
  8. Magnetic Glass cleaners, is there any danger leaving these in the tank ?

    Resun Chiller

I have purchased a CL650 which is over kill for my 4ft tank... I have an Eheim 1260 l/hr return pump from my sump which goes through a UV unit and then through the chiller which is situated next to the tank. The chiller runs about 5-10min each hour and the temp move about 2deg either side of the set point. Nosie.... well my wife calls it the "747" and like you it's a pain at night when watching the box. We are moving and building soon and I am looking at puting the thing in a box outside... pipes through the concrete. This will slow down the flow rate with longer hoses. Another post stated that leveling the feet helped so I am interested in this option but are not convinced it will help. Must say I like the tank at a stable temp 25deg not 30+ Let me know if you work out how to reduce the noice from 747 to fridge.

I downloaded it free from the website link below. http://www.infinitysoft.net/ReefConPro/Version16.asp Tried to post picture but no go, anyone can help would be good. The software has graphs for water conditions, alrams, reminders etc etc very good.
  13. Well an up date on the situation.... damsel dosn't have much too do with the clowns except a full on attack evry now and then. I mean I saw him do the fly by once yesterday. Other wise all is reasonably peacefull. Oh but the clowns have taken to a power head at the top of the tank and don't move much. Can't see the liitle clowns which is not good.... might have to move the pump lower for viewing. Thanks for the posts

    Small bubbles ?

I have small bubbles in my tank are these good or not ? I have heard that this is not ideal so I thought I would ask the question. I'm guessing that they are from water turbilance. Thanks

    auckland heat

Well I have made the purchase of a chiller Resun CL-650 for my 4ft tank, the unit runs a couple of time a hour and keeps the temp at 26deg. Down from 30deg. Cost $1200 which the wife freaked about. Must say I'm rather happy about the chiller the temp does not move more than 1 deg either side of the set point. The heater plugs in to the chiller to make sure there are no conflicts between heater and chiller. Onlu issue is the noise.... my wife calls it a 747. Bugger

    First Water Change

ph is 8.2 How do you test for alkalinity ? I have had these conditions for about 5days or more, I only put the little fish in the tank once it had cycled.
  22. My new 4ft tank has been running for 6weeks now and I added a Stark Damsel last week. When should I do my first water change ? I am looking at adding some snails soon (Catseyes from CHCH) and a pair of Clown's Also how do you test Alkalinity ? Thanks for the answers..... My water paramiters are as follow: Temp 25C PH 0 - 0.25 Salinity 1.024 Ammonia 0.1 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 5 Phosphate 0
  23. I was looking at this setup as a quarantine tank but descided it was not suitable due to the live rock and filter type. Amazing what a little research tell you, so a standard glass tank and simple spung filter is what is required and a little too small.
