  2. Well it all sounds good.... I live in Beachlands but you can use my tank if its not to far out of the way. Tank has only been going for 3months.
  3. I have T5 tank with hood, should I take off the glass top to increase light ? Soft tank Also Should I clean the front glass with glass cleaner, I spray it on to a paper towel and then use it? Are dishwasher cleaned bowls OK to use in tank for water change? What about a backet used to wash the car, rinsed and used for water change? ..... I know some of the answers but are lazy... need to be told.

    Good Shop Today

I had a very good day today.. SHOPPING.!! Went for a little shop today at Jansens & Hollywood. Just to pick up a leather on hold at Hollywood. Was going to be going by myself on my bike but there where the extra two, there was "My Choice" (wife) and "I'll touch anything I like with NO sleep" (13month old boy). Cool I thought. No patience here, ugly shopping. Went to Jansens first to see what was on offer.... good selection well priced stock... some of the fish were expensive but only because I was not allowed to spend that much. Bugger. Hollywood next, brought leather, Hammer, frozen food and garlic. Not bad for a $35 leather which I thought was well priced. But no fish!!!! $186 spent with $35 budget.... Not bad I thought. I went back to Jansens were I again enjoyed the staff conversation which was excellent with great advice and great fish selection, we choose our fish, (decided by My Choice) which was a "Lemon Peel" very well priced. Our new tank friends are happy in their new home with "I'll touch any thing I like" bangging on the glass", well there are some thing you can't stop. Todays experiance. 1) Jansans had the best fish selection. 2) Did not notice any great price differances, only because Hollywood did not have the fish to compare. 3) Today the staff at Jansons won, not always the case. I used to have Oscars, everthing from Janson's... when I purchased fish they gave me chilly bins and oxygen for free, nearly died when Hollywood wanted money for this, especally after you have just purchased a $100 fish. Janson did this for free with a $10 fish. Jansen's used to sort of lend me fish to see if they could be friends, If YOU KNOW Oscars they don't like friends! A piecefull tank was the selling point of a reef tank, no killing. Use to use neons + for food! Great Day. I think I'll have another beer!
  7. I use tank water.... in the country

  12. Not mine - thought someone might like it... also some corals 4 sale http://www.trademe.co.nz/Lifestyle/Pets ... 626934.htm Due to wanting our lounge back the marine tank must go, This fish is an excellent specimen and one of the hardiest fish we have ever had. he/she is 8cm long approx, will eat just about anything, really likes cooked chicken, raw prawn meat, peas, corn, cucumber, flake and more. You must have experience in marine fish. Please do some research to see if this fish will be a good tank mate as they dont all get along. Feel free to ask any questions and come and view if you like We will also be selling its tank after fish has been homed, if you are interested in the tank too just use the question and answer section. photo is off the net, will post a pic of our clown asap

    Boxer shrimps

I have had a boxer shrimp for about 2months, he likes to eat small bits of shrimp. He comes out when the lights are on to grab a feed. Mine has malted once already, as far as specific requirments I do nothing except regualr water changes. Very cool, don't add any cleaner shrimps as they get eaten by the boxer.
  14. KH 90 I have not changed filter wool in my sump for 2 months, intake , it's a little green (lots green) looks like slime. Was fine a week ago. Will this affect KH ? Everthing else is great. I do water cgabge each week 15% PH 8.3 CA 400 evrthing else near zero
  15. The important thing is the women still things I got a great deal..... poor me. Anyway I'm still pleased. Hollywood quoted near $200. So still a good deal as far as I'm concerned. A great tool for piece of mind... 1.0027 was my water reading. Not any more
  16. Does yours have Automatic Temperature Control ? They are quite a bit cheaper with out this option.
  17. Purchased a refractometer from the USA for $90us Auto temperature adjustment etc. Works great. www.benmeadows.com
  18. Now that was the best answer of the lot ...... I have a Deltech 1250 skimmer and LR in my sump. So the answer to the above post is NO I don't have one of the above methods. Next question which of the 3 are simplest to setup and run ?
  19. What about very clear water, got to be good..... I can handle the program and $30 / month is fine

    Stocking Rates

I'm a 3month new to the salt game after years of fresh and purchased a purpose built tank. I wanted a hood, like a fresh tank so I went with T5's, sump etc - 4ft 300l. At this early stage I'm rather pleased everthing is going good and I love the fish colours and shrimps etc. I plan to keep soft stuff and fish. currently have 2 x clowns, blue tang, stark damsel and the coolest box shrimp. Plan on adding 2 x small fish and somthing a little bigger in the onths to come. Watch the bank though as I have blown my budget and could have bought a reasonable car for the cost. A boy racer might have got coool wheels, drain pipe exsaust, bang bang sounds, rather large rear wing and a few stickers. Rather my fish

    Wave maker

System 2000 purchased from this site, works great except the start of the PH's. What cycle speed should I use?
  23. Duke

    Wave maker

I have added a wave maker.... 4 x PH's The PH's make horrible noises when they start up each cycle and Mr Blue Tang runs for his life.... These are cheap PH's $38 each, do I need to buy new ones ? or do they get used to the noise. If so what brand and approx cost ?
  24. My tank is 4ft with sump. I thought it was a lot but 10min latter it was all gone, even the shrimp had a feed. What about flake food in the morning - just a pinch and frozen every second day.
