  1. i cannot i have all my tanks in full capacity but i guess ill hve to make it a pass if it doesnt sell
  2. i guess we face opposite problems, both disabling us to buy it, you want one with room, i want it with no room:)
  3. hi guys, i have great interest in that borneo tiger online but need someone wiht space to look after it for 6 or so months. i have suddenly become obsessed and fallen inlove wiht dats! its hard to find them that size. in return for your housing temporarily of the dat, ill give you shrimps - fish food for your fish! pm me thanks
  4. mark, i tell ya i was s*it scared i have never had a problem with water. i had such a system where i have never faced such problems. i was legitimately worried... though i guess as david said, i have no problem with eating, it obviously ate my geo:D but yeah, now i know what to look for. it was weird though, the other dat was eating like crazy, the silver dollars and parrot fish wre also eating fine. i thought he choked on the geo phagus....
  5. yes, ironic, i made him an offer said no, the day i come back from napier to pick up my two, he emails me literally 4 hours after my return looks nice though
  6. or just baddies? cos that wouldnt make sense, it says on the pack, natural and stuff, hard to over dose etc. but will it kill bacteria in the tank that is good bacteria? or just bad fish bacteria that are generally parasites?
  7. holy shiznit! i looked at it again, became worse, in fact, swimming became less, and it was itching and itching, more frequently. i rang pet store. gave me options, amonia and water quality somethings wrong, or a disease.... if water is bad, it would lose its slime, and get disease i found bits of slime coating floating and when i looked very closely, i saw slime falling off it tested water... ( i didnt test water cos every other fish seemed totally fine) the amonia was at the highest colour about 5 or 6!!! holy crappp!!!!! all my otehr tanks had 0 amonia, so i changed the water 5 times and did a 80% water change and instantly the fish starts to swim more lively! after the 3rd water change. dropped the amonia to to less than 1, i put some amonia neutralisers and put one of my canisters well cycled into the tank as it only had two internals. i also put melafix.
  8. one of the big dats, seemingly has eated my geophagus, it was about 5 to 7 cms long. i believe the wide bar, the one not eating is the one that consumed the geo. perhaps its not eating cos of that? do they get indigestion? hard bits of the fishperhaps? its a funny one, it seems like its fins and tail twitches. it doesnt look sick, just not eating and colour is screwed up
  9. strange two big dats, one seems normal the wide bar, seems like once in a while, actually quite frequently, but not constant, it seems that it swimns on its side, seemingly wanting t rub its side of the body on the gravel, similar to dogs rolling around on grass, i havent seen this before. it does it both sides, which ever it feels i guess is convinient for it. it it swims sideways accross the ground and back up. does anyone know what this is?
  10. so what im seeing is normal then the indo , 30 cms minimum, is eating like crazy~! but the wide bar, not so much, but more active than the indo... really bizzare, its kinda cool trying to decode their behaviour. the american tiger, is also most active in my collection of dats. but small and also hides after feeding and isnt active. any one else wiht feedback? sounds like its normal what im seeing but i like a peace of mind lol my wide bars colours were not as bright as when it was in the pick up point prior tome taking it. so i guess its not stable yet
  11. Just wondeing, with all who has a dat, big or small i have a indo, wide bar, and a american silver dat. the silver dat is small, 2.5 or so inches the others are huge funy, behavoiur seems to be consistent. when its hungry, its more active, swimming around, sometimes even following your fingersl ike most fish do. when you drop the food, they come up quick to snatch it up. they stay there wating for more untill full. when they are satisfied, they tend to go to their favourite corner, or hidy place. and seemingly becomes very inactive. is this what you guys find? i mean the aro swims constntly, sharks, and stuff like that, generally roam all the time. but like the clown knives.... dats , my 3 dats seem to be lazy once eaten... any feedback from anyone? also, got two dats in one tank, the two big ones, the indo, is now eating like a maniac! i mean last night ate 2 pieces today ate more than 7 pieces of beef heart. but the wide bar isnt, it is interested but isnt taking a bite. but oth are in the same tank. some say it takes days sometimes weeks for big fish to settle in, do dats settle in longer than others?
  12. well i guess thtas fair neough theres always gonna be horror stories. i liked the fluval heaters personally, and aqua ones never let me down
  13. yeah, all ou can do is wait i guess, i always fill up my new tanks with old tank water from my other tanks, the rest tap water. to make sure that the water is almost fully cycled. i always run canister filter in anothr tank prior getting a new tank, so canister is fully cycled too. once i actually just used all new water and put fish in there. it was ok dodgy but ok
  14. not as such but close you put their hands in while you ask "what do you know? what did you see!?!?!?!" in that 30k litre tank, i would buy up all pacus in the country thats for sale! id put 20 silver dollars. and two massive catfish type fish! im excited! 2 years, ill get one:D wiht in two years
  15. fair enough i am also looking at marks idea, the water tanks very sound good idea! burying half the tank in the ground, insulating the rest. pretty good way, but i guess making the window how easy is that? enlargin the hole at the top..does that comprimise structural integrity (i watch too much sci fi). and the window too? i mean devon plastic tanks sell 30k litre tanks for 3400, pretty good! imagine the pacus you can put in there! wow, im excited thinking bout it in fact, i feel another impulse buy, perhaps i can put it at the back of my shop or in the garage:D
  16. if they decide to jump on food or frightened, they might cut or hut their head, giving a little gap for air and to jump would be good the heater idea is purely for nice looking ness:D
  17. i am very sure it doesnt take 22kw to heat 15,000 litres you get poo heaters, aqua clear heating in penrose some are designed to heat huge pools, only to bring temps max 12 degrees it says, an its no where near 22 kw, maybe if you want to heat it in 5 minutes?? im sure it takes less than that.
  18. true true insulated sides would be economical i guess i was throwing around ideas. i am estimtaing running cost ofr a well insulated tank would be 100-120 a month on electricity. plus food another 50 - 80 dollars.
  19. a suggestion, your heater, position it on the side glass panel so its more discreet, cant be seen so much, looks a lil better sorry just thought, if you are gonna buy a aro thats 2k, might as well make it look GOOD! oh yeah
  20. yeah, australia aint much better wiht fish, cos they dont let you import some, it gets hot enough there for the fish to survive during the winter months! well, i guess relocating just for fish is one thing but you can also make the best out of nz havin a school of pacus, gouramis, catfishes, even some nz river and lake fishes. jsut all big fish you cna possibly find i think it could be impressive too! but i know wha tyou mean RTC, shovel nose, arapaima, rays, etc would be wicked! i guess in nz we ust hvae to settle with what we have and a school of silver aros:D
  21. viewing window is a must but i figure ill hvae a hands on approach go for a swim to view them:d
  22. i dont particularly like the council working with them is rather difficult portable pool is pretty easy. having a pool is jus tlike building a..... a pool all the crap that goes with it, portable pool isnt needing a consent etc cheaper too
  23. mmmmmm ira you put forwards a valid point if you put it that wya, it sounds very cheap... and ifit works and reliable, it dont matter... getting good ideas here i just such a big fan of monster fish! huge fish! any ideas on alternatives to a pool? someone suggested a water tank, like those found in rural areas to store rain water. and someone said i could cut out a hole on the side and put on perspex. so it can be viewed easily
  24. hey mark: solar seems good and efficient. backed up by electricity no doubt if sun isnt very strong? hot water bore, i am unsure if we get many hot water wells here.. i really dont know how that works lol looking for massive containers for fish, doesnt have to be a pool i guess any ideas mark? i mean massive talking at least 6000 litres
  25. realistically i just got a quote for 3000 x 1200 x 1000h, 11500 dollars! i mean thats big, but not that! big! in terms of cost of set up, a portable pools, which already comes iwth a spa pool 1horse power filter is only 3400 delivered to my door. only issues are heating, and insulation in winter.. insulation in winter i would assume wouldnt be that much, just pink batts aroundt eh tank and nicely wrap it up:D but heating, i think it would cost a good 2 to 3 thousand to get a heating system still cheaper, lot cheaper to do large scale! somehuge clowns, gouramis, aros, pacus, catfish etc like i said, this is a plan thats spanning next 2 to 3 years when i purchase a home of my own. then looking for big fish wont be too hard, once found then you setup:D to view, you dive in ith a mask and snorkle
