apparently the background can be cut, so i would probably do that to fit around the overflow and the actual overflow drain at the top of the water line. that is an issue. I just love that look - juwel sells a lot of this as well, quite common. i am leaning heavily towards it. the royal has plenty of wood and will have plenty of food in the tank. I dont think they will prefer to suck on and scrape plastic vs algae wafers and smelly wood:D I was really having doubts about the bare tank and bottom. I like it to a degree, but to be honest, its quite sterile.... just keeps reminding me of those bare tanks in asia tha tlook like prisons more than aquariums lol

Yeha, davids tank is gonna be huge! 1000gallons ? the background is plastic, royals will eat through it., though to be honest, i dont mind if they look weathered . make sit look natural.
-
I am heavily considering this. http://www.petware.co.nz/Product/info/JW86930 its 60 by 55 cm so height is perfect. length i would need 4 to cover the length of tank. an extra maybe to cover overflows. it would look nice and siliconed on the tank before we put water in! feedback would be great! like this http://www.google.co.nz/imgres?hl=en&bi ... =171&ty=68

no, will have decor, wood mostly for royals. some caves for cichlids and cats. but no substrate for starters, see how it goes.

I am redoing the initial Post so it has all the summary of what I have done start to finish. Plan: 1700 Litre – 2400 x 1200w x 630h - **safety factor of 3.8 Stocking: Current: 1x Red Arowana 1x 25cm L190 1x Albino Sailfin 1x xxl male GBA 3x Suncats 2x Parrots 1x Silvershark, Tinfoil Barb, Red Sev, Texas, midas 1x Indo Dat 1x Chocolate talking cat Future Additions: Maybe 3 to 4 L190 Blue phantoms, king tigers, Magnum, snowball, cactus and assorted Plecos Clown Knife/royal Fire Eel Few Clown loaches 1x ornate bichir 1x oddball Dat, 1x Amercan Dat Fishroom Is insulated with batts and poly sheets. H3 Treated Ply. Stand: custom steel stand with levelling feet – Powdercoated Feet can handle 900Kg each (12 feet in total) Tank Design: ‘braceless’ Look – 2x sheets on the bottom to provide a braceless look, but the entire length/width is actually braced with a whole piece of glass. Overflow on the Right – Internal filterbox on the left for mechanical filtration. Think an inbuild internal filter with a massive pump. Build Day: Greg Arrives with glass! Done! In this build, The fittings are all built onto the unit, so the sump and the tank can be as ‘closed’ as possible to allow minimal evaporation and smell escaping. Electrics: Power Box has all the gear in it and plugs/controllers. Temperature controller for up to 3.4 KW of heating. LED controllers and switches for multiple viewing mode and timer for ‘daylight’ ‘ Dusk/dawn’ settings. Built in plugs for heater to the temp controller and PUMP for the water change system 2 spare plugs for misc stuff and 2 switches for LED units The Guts! The Sump: 1600 x 500 x 500 4x 100 micron socks. First Chamber: Heating Second Chamber: K1 Moving Media – 50Litres of K1 third Chamber: 90Litres of Assorted Ceramic bio Media Fourth Chambe: Return pumps Water Change System: Moving on from my old set up of timers and a constant drip into the drum. I have had the opportunity to change that to a ‘one button operation’ wc system. The sump has a drain so it automatically drains the water as it is put in. The system is a smart relay system. Press Button Pump turns on Level Switch detects low level Pump off Solenoid is triggered allowing water to refill the 200litre drum Full level switch is triggered Solenoid shuts and the cycle can begin again I drilled a hole diagonally in the corner of my slab – I then fed a hose through it, into a conduit so it is out of the way and more discrete. Will bury hose under the soil too. Through the hole out the hole Lighting: 2x double 4ft T8, 1x single T8 (Daylight) , Internal submersible tanning light fitting, 2x 2.4M dim LED (Dusk/Moonlight), 2x Superbright 2.4m LED strip. Light Progression The tank as of 30/6/2013 Complete with substrate, wood and all the systems running.

No gotta really private import!

I understand It'sstill not omething you just or can get. Takes planning g and time Worth it Though. Gold is awrsme Will get xb next! Smaller tank.. School of albino tinfoils and xb.. gold and jewel treasure theme :-D
-
no, 4x power glo only. tanning light is disassembled. i will however install them and glue the brackets above water level facing down so the water can get unfiltered UV bulb rays. and will tan in future. but i havent tanned after the inital 3 months tanning more than 1 year ago. the light coming from the side annoys it.

haha best fish , that term is subject to opinion! many love discus, africans, cichlids etc some may even think, why bother with an arowana. but i agree, arowanas are the best type of fish:D :rolfl:

now officially 53cms. getting some good thickness! suffered from ch ipped scales, it did not affect appetite but the ph crashed, now back to the right ph and stable.
-
i have a Hansen CV25 check valve.
-
approx how many PSI is a return pump? say the pump is a 6000LPH or something. what psi? reason i ask is that i have a check valve to prevent backflow, and it needs 0.5psi as a minimum pressure to work.

Haha been doing so much research on this. i finally have a set up where the mites havent come yet! the answer 1) heat 2) right moisture mites i believe like high moisture, but mealworm eggs require high moisture to maximise hatch rate. so, HEAT is key. though sites say 27c is optimal or max, not true. i have read articles that higher 28 to 30 is also achievable. mites, can breed in thousands in days. i keep my 'breeding bran' at 28 to 31c steadily. using 2x bbq foil tray and a 7w heat matt by reptile one ($27 from hff last time) what i do is ensure there is lots of bran - 1kg per laying tray. in that i have approx 300 beetles. LOTS Of veges so the bran and the beetles have moisture, but the heat kills the mites, they dont like the heat. so the moisture is fine IF you have heat, cos moisture will evaporate but the eggs and the beetles dont eat their eggs as they ahve plenty of food, eggs get moisture from veges too trapped in the bran, and the mites die with heat beetles WILL eat mites, to a degree. mealworms will eat it too, IF the mealworms are big enough a nd there is enough fo them. so once you have 3 to 4 mm mealworms in the bran, (when you turn the bran over, you see constant movement leveling out the bran) you should have a 'critical mass' to be immune to mites.

looking at using silicone to put twiggy brances as a background on my tank, will the silicone glue it on the glass, also when the wood becomes water logged, will it stay on?
-
they will eat wood, make lots of waste, slow growing but long lived too. trophy fish really, awesome fish, good personalities.

They all have similar body shape.... In fact red n rtg n gold will be nicer as more effort go into them... In asia, greens are seen as starter practice aros. I like them but no effort is made to selectively breed them really. Better go for rtg or xb... If you don't like reds. Only few more bux!
-
You are right. He will never do cheap aros. Fair enough too. The risk is high. Cost is high. I can vouch for the quality of his aro.. I i got onefrom him! But next time iI will import myself.. So can choose farm. This dude has awesome aros! From imperial... I only top specimens export quality. Quality of aro vary.. I export is the good quality.. I just like our meat... Best is exported.

Most greenaros around are stunted or in hhorrible shape. Good ones are already huge. Quarantine yourself..get it shipped. If you do that.... I ddon't get a green...
