  1. Regular wc, that amount of AM is very small. For non hardy species may kil them but, that will mean you weed out the wussy fish:D so not a total loss :slfg:
  2. I can tell you right now, if i was worth 220 million, i would have a massive outdoor pond heated full of aros, large fish. In fact, i would probably do it if i was worth less:D
  3. 50 to 100...... pttff! nah! not expensive! if it was ornamental koi imported, illegally kept, he would NEVER have called the cops. they were probably just large comets, large comets cost 50 to 100 bux each at times.
  4. Works well. Poo containment capacity is also massive.. And it's just kinda gimmicky lol which is always good :-)
  5. yeah, if that is the case and he doesnt nkow, claimign its a red texas is a bit far fetched.
  6. sounds like a lot of DIY to me, p otentially making something that doesnt work and wasting time, messy and annoying:D so i just got one. works like a charm! just like the video. has a gravel attachment, my tank is barebottom so took that off, and works extremely well! i will vouch for the amazeballs of this product:d
  7. haha yeah, i saw it and i thought.. mmmmm
  8. mmm strange why my drum one has started to fail. but worth investigating, good system
  9. so its a reverse one of mine, instead of pumping water INTO the tank and letting it drain, they p ump water out and let it fill with the ball valve thing. i dont trust them lol i have one n the drum, and its always over flowing lol, doesnt seal properly. maybe its the mains pressure?
  10. first gen i suppose would be not so red, but if this person keeps it, grows it out and re crosses it for more red, maybe ? interesting to see the temprament and colour i suppose.
  11. Yes indeed, you do spy a concrete slab floor rumpus:D that rumpus is bigger than a double garage, AND the ceiling is into the house so will retain heat well:D IF i end up buying it, i will turn the downstairs int o a 'henward den' 2x lazy boys huge tank/s locust breeding again mealworm farm lazy boy is from parents old suite, so might as well lol dont have a problem treating rain water, recalling, i cant drill a hole on the concrete wall lol so cant have auto changer, so will be a semi auto change. i will still do the sump drain thing, but will attach to a large bore hose and take it to the storm rain by the rumpus and pump fresh new water into the tank and drain like i am doing now, maybe invest in a stronger pump to quickly pump water through from drum to tank, no biggie. I figure, 3000 to 3600litre system total, the stocking is less than half of my 1200litre, i thin i can get away with a small wc a week! nitrate concentrations will be low due to the volume and low stockig. Dont mind a semi manual change 1x a week, 2x even for when i decide to go nuts with feeding and growint out:D
  12. yeah true, so is fish poo run off a problem? should i filter the water first? or not use it for fish water then?
  13. ok, house has roof tiles, those concrete type things that over lap each other, not metal. just wondering, do they emit nasties? they are painted brown as well i think or at least they look brown. http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/resid ... 680242.htm if you look at the pictures, will that type of roof be ok if the water run off from it goes itno a tank and for aquariums?
  14. never really knew there was another texas. i guess i am not up with the cichlid gig:D but cool, thanks for letting me know! my next tank is gonna be a predator tank, may have a few cichlids. i always loved electric blue dempseys
  15. want to know the parents. there are heaps of articles online how to breed them, it is a matter of actually doing it, and knowing parents will indicate, is this a real red texas? as far as i know red texas is a festae and texas cross.
  16. Yeah, ther eis no reason for an aro not to be in a planted. having both would rule! but the tank size, would eventually be too small for a full sized aro.
  17. bare bottom i find that a corner accumulates some debris, poo. even wtih jets you gotta hvae HEAPS of jets or heaps of movement at the bottom to move this. i didnt have this issue when i had 40plus clown loaches lol they would bring everythign up but now, i do. and i foresee that eventually i will. i dont wanna siphon out cos i will have an auto changer, so... i just wanna get debris out, should take 15 secs manual water changes and reducing water level for no reason is annoying. Also, having to have a long house out the door etc. exploring options. could be quite good for spot cleaning of build up i suppose
  18. anyone here used that before? is it good? suction reasonable?
  19. yeah i will do that, i have already started to estimate the costs. and judging by the costs, both will be very similar! the only way ply tank is going to be worth while in terms of value for money is if you build HUGE. i mean HUGE. my original 3x1.2x1.2 idea then its worth while. But the problem there is glass, you cant get glass thcik enough!! I have based stand cost on a shorter stand, less steel at 40cm high, total height of 120cm tank and stand total. tank 3x1.2x80cm. got a quote for a tank, $2800 built on site, sump built on site, though thtas irrelevant cos it wont go under the stand but saves on time and transport. stand is approx $1200 to $1300 powdercoated.
  20. yeah tahts what im thinking. but calculating initial costs vs volume, is key here, ply cost vbs all glass with metal stand. but a 'discrete' sump would be cool.
  21. i am weighing up now. getting an all glass build 15mm glass 3m x 1.2 x 80 with a metal stand of 40 cms from the ground, total height of 1.2 metres (eye height for lazy boy viewing) vs a ply build of approx same size. the cost of the stand and tank approx will be $4k for all glass option. i wonder how much the ply option will cost? any estimate for me, i am not the most experienced with this.
  22. Room and logistics of cleaning i guess. Heating too.
  23. thinking. building a tank with an inbuild sump with in the tank on the side or back. requirements 1) easy access to 4x filter sucks. 2) lots of bio media.
