    Miracle Mud

I have always wondered why it is called a high nutrients system. I have very low nutrients, zero phosphates and nitrates, no nuisance algae or cyno. My colours are starting to look very nice and I get good growth. It is a very simple system to use and the results are good, maybe not as amazing colour wise as some tanks or with the best growth ever but both are better than average. Having said that I saw reefs tank 3 weeks ago and his colours are still amazing, still probably the best tank I have ever seen in person. Each to their own though I suppose
  2. Nah I dont have a decent one at the moment, I will try again tonight with a different camera and see how that comes out

    Miracle Mud

Miracle mud runs well with any system not just an sps tank. My algae, has been in the tank since 20 feb and I have just pruned a huge amount out 5 days ago, grows like crazy. I also have 5 types of algae floating around in there

  7. Welcome to the dark side Looking forward to seeing the tank when you get it home and cleanied up
  8. clowns or some common damsels would be great starters. If you want the seahorses contact your local store who may be able to convince an inporter to bring some in
  9. lol that green acro is awesome

  11. look at the ati power module too, had a look at one a while ago, very nicely made
  12. They are cool fish, I had one for 3 years and watched it change from juvi colous to adult, I sold it as it outgrew my tank plus ate all my softies
  13. Hi Gibbo, the only sort of cleanup crew you can get here is snails. There are turbos and astreas that are sometimes available from other reefers. My tank is new so unfortunately I can offer you any as I dont have many myself but others may be able to help. There are also blue-leg hermit crabs about but they are not on the permitted list so people generally hold on to them if they have them
  14. I havent put my hands in my tank for 3 weeks, my sump is different... Only time I am in tank is to vacuum sand and place the odd coral etc
  15. It costs me $120 for 700l of asw. I do a 50l change per month. So plz correct me if I am wrong but it costs me $120 for 14 m onths worth of water. I dont use a heater for the water as I find the pump heats the water enough. I have an RODI unit already but yes I do use more di resin which probably costs me an extra $80 for those 14 months. So I am guessing it costs me $200 for 14months of water changes. Given that I live a 1.5 hour round trip from takapuna and have 2 young children so spare time is limited I just cant see myself ever swithcing to nsw. Having said that my tank is only 450l total volume, if I had a much larger tank I would probably use nsw
  16. The overflow system is very basic. I have a 32mm and a 25mm hole, the 32 is a full syphon and the 25 is just an open hose into the sump and is used only as a backup. I am running a laguna 6 and probably get around 4500l and hour which the 32mm pipe can easily handle. I have a ball valve in the sump where i can adjust the flow to get the water level in the overflow correct. If I did it again I would either make the overflow box 10cm longer or put a smalller return as the flow is a little too much for it to handle and it takes a little adjusting sometimes. I am going to divert some of the return line back into the sump next week and that should fix the problem.. I will take a few more photos tomorrow and post of the whole overflow system
  17. Thanks Charles, I got the endcaps and clips for them from DElighting in singapore, good pricing and shipping wasnt a problem for them. The icecap ballasts I got from marinedepot but I think reefgeek has them at a better price at them moment, you can order them in 240v also. I am actally removing the icecap ballasts and replacing them with normal electronic ballasts. Reason for this is you have to have a fan running lengthways on each bulb or they overheat and the bulbs are too noisy for my wife(my old tank was an inwall setup so there was no noise, this tank has an open top ) The fiji purple bulbs are available through zeovit.co.nz
  18. that cool, where did you get the eel grass and what is it
  19. Very nice Jake, nice clean up on the sump
  20. I will be replacing one of the blues with a white and also a fiji purple, so will end up with 3 white, 2 blue and 1 purple

  23. I have been in this hobby for around 7 years, I have 6 skimmers in my garage at the moment and I only use 2 of them. I have an aquamedic, a queen, a red sea berlin , a reef octopus and 2 deltecs, can you guess which ones I am using? Best advice I can give is to buy the best gear you can afford, you WILL upgrade in the future.
