  1. haha I love threads like this, so a quick lesson from someone who has studied technical PR writing, oh and went to primary school: their (indicates possession, e.g their house) / there (indicates position, e.g over there), do not mistake for "they're" (a conjunction for they are) to / too (extra 'o' is for adding some on the end, e.g can I come too?, the freshwater tanks were dirty and the marine tanks were too) recommend (not reccomend) maybe (not mabey) pressurised (not pressurized.. are we American?!) while (not wile) you're (it's a conjunction for you are, not your!! your indicates possession, e.g your hair is cool, you wouldn't..well you shouldn't say you are hair is cool) happy learning
  2. Medicated foods are particularly effective as kills the parasite/worm etc from the inside out (as opposed to treating the water body which works from the outside in) Commercially medicated fish foods are unavailable (NZ a long way behind on the medication front unfortunately due to strict regulations) However, I've made up a homemade oxheart mix containing 3 various drugs, one for worms, one for bacteria, and one for hexamita/intestinal flagellates. The only downside is the fish has to still be eating even though it is sick. Also these meds are hard to get.
  3. Wow Cool bro those looks awesome driftwood like that isn't cheap if you buy it
  4. Hello welcome aboard. I'm sure the marine keepers down there will be pleased to see you don't think there's too many
  5. Awesome! Goodluck. So this will be a fish shop sort of in your garage once finished?
  6. Nice one man. Good to see you back too! Here's a pic in light: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/albu ... pic_id=760

    java moss

yea just make sure it gets enough light and adding nutrients will set it off, esp iron
  10. Yes you can do this but 30gallon is better. When you transfer the leaf over they may not recognise it and eat the eggs off it. This happened to me once when I moved a pair and the heater they had the eggs on.

tst tst... marine tank bad idea Well, $5 isn't completely out, you can still buy some peat for your killies with that. Yeah I agree with Alan it could've been a killi egg and it hasn't long hatched.
  16. Yes peat softens the water and lowers the pH. Don't worry about the pH or hardness, the fish will be fine. If you want to offset it though put a stocking full of peat in your filter, it'll last a month (straight peat, not boiled) edit: trust you ant! ah soo tired edit2: Antwan says: nice gramar lol

If they're from Germany how are they wild?

    new discus

    Wow! Which hollywoods is that?
  19. Looks great Bli good work, even looks semi biotypical. The odd plant and even fewer rocks or stones. I know your discus will appreciate the bigger tank and cleaner water.
  20. I want the unique new coloured siamese fighters! pretty neat to think of these things out there still undiscovered just living their lives out happily with minimal human interference. And yes I know my first statement contradicts the second hehe
  21. That's good no signs of anything bad = good Ahh yes neons like it more 22c type temp apparently, otherwise they burn out faster. Good that you're reading up, can be tedious at times but it's worth it. And yes thanks I still have some discus available. Let me know when you're ready and hopefully I'll still have some for you then.
  22. Most diseases and parasites are transferable amongst tropical fish, but aslong all the other fish were healthy you'll be fine. Did you see them scratching at all? It could indicate there's flukes in the system, these can kill young discus.
  23. The bacteria won't die if you clean it out in fishwater (just to be clear not cold tap water). It is best to have a clean filter as it will cleanse the water better and be less likely to clog up and reduce water flow, especially important as you're going away.
