  1. looking good. if you have a little thin stainless steel mesh you can use a rubber band around that and the cone to hold it on and that works well
  2. some goldfish can get a lot bigger than a lot of tropicals too... i assume a lot of aquatic staff are told to tell customers to keep a minimal amount of goldfish per whatever the tank size is. certainly better than overstocking and having the tank crash. alan is right, if all conditions were the same (filtration, water changes, plants, lights, tank size) then technically you can stock more of the same-sized fish (that create a similar amount of waste) as cooler water contains more oxygen than warmer water
  3. nice! where'd you buy them?
  4. nice tank! looks great. it will work well. yeah cycle the new filter turned on (to get the oxygen through it).. it should take 2 weeks but cos it's prized discus we're talking you might want to go 3. how thick is the glass? also those 300w jager heaters are rated to handle up to 1000L!!!
  5. WOW stunners! you clearly know quality discus. flag most of that TM rubbish those are actually discus with a "nice shape and great colour"!!!
  6. great news! LOVE these fish ay!

    Discus Pairing!

yea that's fine. the width doesn't matter as much as the height

    Discus Pairing!

simplydiscus.com swear by 29gal tanks ie 105L.. could be 50x45x45cm or 50x50x40cm being round they like the height smaller can work too
  9. not sure why they've said that.. you don't need to. perhaps they did it just to ward off bugs like parasites
  10. or use one and just go slow.. try to corner them. congrats on the eggs! check for fry right now.. they hatch extremely quickly
  11. there's something about a lush yet not overdone tank full of cardinals ay... verrrrry nice
  12. sounds like they're breeding fine they just can't work on their rearing skills cos of the distractions in the tank
  13. sounds like you're doing just fine if you have 60+
  14. link not working for me. yes the females get a nice round belly when full of roe (eggs). and yes definitely seperate the males and females for 2 weeks first. breed them in pairs
  15. that is normally true for tetras alanmin4304 but these guys usually breed the second night after introduction to the breeding tank. cardinal tetras are the same
  16. think you meant bowl not pagoda
  17. it's likely anaerobic bacteria.. caused by dead-spot pockets of air/water under the substrate. a thorough sand mix around/water change might fix it
  18. hi danval. i didnt find either light sensitive, though i kept the tank dim (no overhead light) for a couple of months. I fed liquifry (can you still get this stuff? i spawned them years ago but keen to try again soon ). but as Bryan mentions in his article they can go straight onto newly hatched brine shrimp on the afternoon of day 5. feed a tiny amount as overfeeding will foul the water and check their bellies to see if they're consuming them anyone know if Bryan is still around?
  19. thanks. i dont think he's got the gold x-back albino david's talking about tho right? i just see a black and RTG
  20. yeah good advice here. i've spawned glowlights and neons. i found with a good breeding set up they spawned just as readily but glowlights just have more eggs (the females should look like whales if ripe ) one other tip i heard is to let some morning sunlight in as a spawning trigger but it's not necessary. goodluck
  21. Interesting. There's a long article from a guy who tank bred his online somewhere. Their courting went on for months. He took some pics and fed them live goldfish leading up to the spawn. Apparently the eggs were the size of golf balls. That gold cross-back sounds good! pics? PS great to hear some fish are going back into the wild!
  22. nice work! great photos. love the albino angels :bounce: looks like very nice parents too..
  23. zayne was saying if it was called "fish and tips" people would think you only sold fish. personally i must say the final name mentioned is a bit long with 2 puns.. but goodluck with it all
