you have to get her warm if you want her to lay.setup a basking lamp or put her in a box in a warm situation,then if we ever get a warm day?take her outside and watch her,you could have one of those working lamps setup if she starts to dig set it up behind her to keep her temps up.failing that an indoor setup with a nesting container of pottingmix/sand etc moist but not wet ,just so it will keep its shape as she digs.If you had a knowledgable vet you could also warm her up give her a shot of oxytocin and suspend her in a harness hanging off the ground as she will still go through the moitions of digging/laying/burying.just put something soft for the eggs to land on and again keep her warm.have seen this done but never actually done it mtself,good luck.

my methods don`t really warrent a mention,but get way more than that ,way into the 90% even though I may not excavate till they are half hatched or more(this could cause as many losses as infertility,probably more)only hatched about 60 this year without really trying,also 2 natural hatches,one just 2 weeks ago.there maybe more out there which will emerge in spring.

I used to put them in a clean bare tank after conditioning them with no heat!turn the heater on and they spawned the next morning without fail,this was mainly peppereds but did the same thing with bronzys.take them out when you have enough eggs as they will eat them after a while.

I would stay away from processed calcium in favour of `organic` sources such as oyster grit or cuttlefish,also limesand as dug straight out of the hillside and crushed.Cheap as buggery and I also scatter it around my backyard like confetti at a wedding.Even if they don`t find it the plants that grow there take it up and they get it that way(more for the torts but the beardys spend alot of time loose out there.

no point in doing it now,wait till spring and put them out there,if you have a wild one already there are bound to be more that will turnup as well.

the trick is to only feed enough that they eat it within a couple of days.An icecream container is ok to start with but as the population increases so should the container.A bit like a fish tank,bigger being easier to maintain and a bit more margin of error if conditions change.I have seen polyboxes and wooden boxes used well for whiteworms.plastic containers never really worked for me,not enough ventilation?Now is the time to get a culture going as they don`t like heat and humidity.They can go off overnight in warm temps.Most people have no idea what a good culture even looks like and when you do get one or see one you will know what I mean.The ideal is to have that many worms you can cover the surface in slices of bread and next day its all gone.bread and water is better for mould etc than bread/milk and cat biscuits,luncheon as mentioned give you a better worm to feed.start off with small lumps of moistened bread and remove what is not eaten and replace with fresh every other day,try and refrain from disturbing the culture till it gets going,its always good to have an extra one or two coming along incase of disasters.not too wet for your medium would be the ideal just damp the idea being that they get additional moisture from the food.

you can get `2 year tadpoles` but most succumb to the cold temps and die.

they were here first and have always been visiting cities and towns allover the country.In fact they are known to breed not very far (as the falcon flies) from wellington city,ie the hills behind wainuiomata.The juveniles are seen every winter in the botanical gardens on the napier hill and probaly plenty of other places just as ` civilised?`There was talk of having pairs placed in cities and encouraged to breed on hirise buildings as has been done overseas with peregrine falcons.

Napier aquarium imported two 15 years or so back?maybe longer.it was a hell of a lot of red tape and waiting etc but it happened.they just came from a farm singapore,hongkong or somewhere like that,it was the paperwork this end as you would imagine that took the time.

I have never seen any reference to nz falcons killing for `fun`.They are one of the only species that have been observed to cache food items and return at a later date to eat it.Still say it would be a privilige to have one in your garden and will replace any pidgeons that dissapear.

I think you miss the point as well barrie?it would be easy to go out break the law ,shoot the offending endangered native bird at the expence of imported dime a dozen ornamental birds that can`t even fly properly(which is what the said falcon has also noticed)by the way thats what they do,eliminate the slow ,weak and dum ones so the rest get smarter healthier etc or let the falcon live and replace the pigeons?If you ever saw one of these birds up close and personal you might get the idea.As for the operations for sick people thats whole different ballgame and side issue.

once a falcon is `locked on` to its target,nothing will stop it.There are reports of them chasing pigeons into sheds etc and following them.I you run out of pigeons I will happilly replace them for you.The pigeons are replacable the falcon not!

probably not,they need fairly clean water conditions as a rule and also space is always an issue.You might raise one or two but I would forsee major problems keeping them fed,changing water and stopping them from eating one another.
