That's strange! Just noticed the previous pics I posted are gone. Wonder what happened there?

Picked up some more sps yesterday, so I'm putting the "before" pics of the two biggest ones. Also, I'm not responding to questions about where they came from, publicly or privately. This is simply because I do not wish to be dragged into any of the politics around that. Sorry about my lousy photography, I took a whole bunch to try to get it right, but this was the best I could do.
  3. Duke, I'm just not familiar with what you are doing. However - I think the best approach would be that longer term you are going to need some form of nutrient export for your tank. The starting point is a protein skimmer, which every tank should have. Then in addition you really need one of the following three - a macro algae refugium, a zeovit system, or phosphate removing media such as Salifert Phosphate killer. For a softy only tank any of these used properly will do a fine job. If you do not have one of these means to remove phosphate, you will not immediately have a phosphate problem as for a time it will be adsorbed by your sand and rock. But given enough time it is highly likely you will end up with a problem.
  4. My experience is only a few months with zeovit, but thus far the softies have done at least as well in the lower nutrient water. But the main advantage for me has been a cheap method of phosphate removal and an algae free tank. I didn't do it to keep sps, but just decided to get some sps later

. Well, hope that's all over. Anyhow, to something more cheerful, not sure if it's my imagination but I THINK one of my new sps is showing a tad more colour than yesterday. If so, I may be able to post another pic in a week or two. Fingers crossed

    Tree coral

I once had one, tried everything I could to keep it going. It struggled bravely for a few months, but eventually succumbed. There was a guy on Reef Central who had one for two years, and it had had a number of babies during that time which had also grown. He attributed it to his DSB and large number of critters. However the bad news is that someone with access to all the right gear ran a laboratory test to try to "crack the riddle" of how to keep them alive, and he could not. So wish you the best, but don't bet the ranch on it.

Trouble is, I've heard that before. Several times. Over the last 27 pages you have not even backed up one of your claims with a shred of proof, unlike the rest of us who have referenced studies, and expert commentary from scientists. It is really an insult to the people who have taken the time to read this thread to bombard them with all this piffle. I feel degraded at having been through it all.
  8. Mine has been softies and anemone only until recently, works fine. You're welcome to come and have a look, drop me a pm if you wish. And don't worry, I don't care if you go zeovit or not so will not ram it down your throat. I'm happy to show you the system though.

Layton still waiting for a shred of proof for any of your claims. You say I have not produced proof either. Either you were on another planet at the time, or you are even more confused than I thought. Fact is, I have backed what I have said with references to studies and expert commentary from qualified scientists. Still waiting for a shred of proof from you. However the real reason you never produce proof for your theories is that there is none.

    Frag List

That white polyped brown leather in Brians tank pic, I have some of those available. Some may dissagree but IMO it is one of the most awesome leathers I have seen. A mere 25 bucks will get you one Also copious quantities of green pinwheel stripped mushrooms. Xenia (big surprise)! and scroll coral pieces. Some zoo rocks that look awesome under certain light and pretty boring under other. Hairy green mushrooms 10 bucks apiece. Smallish hydnophora frags. Happy to sell or swap. ( not for hair algae though )

Wow, Thanks for all the replies. To many to reply to each one, but it's all good useful practicle stuff.

Well I managed to purchase two sps corals at Massey Pets last Wednesday. I put them in my higher nutrient frag tank for two days, and they have now gone into the main, although not in the final position yet. I am posting these as "before" pics, and it will be interesting to compare in a few months. Doesn't show in the photo, but the top one does have a little pink to it, so I'm guessing that's how it will end up. The bottom one is not quite as faded as it appears in the photo. Now I just have to hope they actually do colour up! Fingers crossed

Layton in the last 25 pages I have not seen one shred of proof for any one of your claims.

    Water Flow

Now I'm getting into SPS, I really need better flow, but I'm finding this quite hard, I need some advice / help/ tips. The main problem is the tank is only 30 inches long, in a small tank like that I'm finding it quite hard to get good even flow throught the tank. I've put powerheads around, but they tend to blast one area heaps, but not good flow in another area. Maybe it's just placement and I'll just have to fiddle a bit. However I just thought someone may have some useful thoughts or experience to share.

And AJL, AWESOME!!! Somebody should have said it. Great therapy simply to look at this beauty . . . . .

What can I say? A picture is worth a thousand words, dozens of "theories" or in the case of this thread, a million words
  17. It's quite a slow but steady grower in my tank, mainly encrusting. It's one of those ones that if you frag it it takes a really long time to attach. I see good growth in your one, it was just a small frag when you got it. Looking Good. It origionated from Nick Sparks main tank, when I saw it I just HAD to have a piece. Hide your corals when I come to your house folks!!

    ZEOVIT

True!! However, there should be a change for the better. AJL has clearly shown a number of inconsistancies in what Layton has been saying, and I have also clearly prooved him wrong on the zeobac issue. There is no further need for him to keep trying to fart against thunder
  19. If you asked what the bad experience was, you'd have an idea what to look out for. By the way Craig, I'm getting water Friday afternoon. Pretty busy on the weekend, but i'll catch you early next week.

Thanks for that post Reef, agree 100%. Bottom line is, Zeovit is just one method, and there are others. There are certainly some awesome non zeovit tanks. I'm not married to the method, it's just the method I happen to be using, and I'm not going to bash any other method. End of the day the only thing that counts is results. Don't see the need for anyone to constantly bash zeovit either. I really wonder how someone can be so dedicated to bashing a product that can achieve such nice results.

Personally i think there is a lot more to those before and after pics than a change of light. Notice the algae in the before pics. Change of light didn't make that go away. Real good of you to share these with us, beautiful to see.

Actually, the fact is you were discussing it and asking me about it, then you found out my water quality is great, and you dropped the subject like a hot potato. Cheers, I'm late now.

    ZEOVIT

Hmmm... Got to say I'm a little disapointed that I just tried to make piece, and all you want is a fight. Perhaps you could find some other venue such as boxing to vent your aggression, rather than wasting bandwidth here.

    ZEOVIT

Just wonder though why you think great water quality is irrelevant. Odd sort of a statement when zeovit is a water filtration sytem.
