    ZEOVIT

Fair enough point Chimera. I will try to refrain from arguing over stupidities. I am though, interested in intelligent discussion about zeovit. This would require keeping unsubstantiated theories, misinformation, and posts that say the opposite to what the person said yesterday, to a minimum.

We seem to have a contradiction here. You apparently believe you know more than Thomas Pohl because he is a professional who derives his living from coral farming and selling zeovit, whereas you derive no income from farming corals or selling zeovit. I think that Thomas Pohl in fact knows more than you for precisely the same reasons. In fact, to be a little blunt, I really do not think it is worth wasting further bandwidth arguing who knows more, you or Thomas Pohl.

Best I can tell, your problem seems to be that the manufacturer has given specific warnings as to the consequences of overdosing, as per your previous post. Don't see how this equals the manufacturer does not understand his own product. To me, warning about overdosing is what any responsible manufacturer of a quality product would do. However, if you believe you understand the product better than the manufacturer, I will not argue with you. No point.

    Miracle Mud

I have a bottle of Reef Solutions (Miracle mud additive) which I am dosing a small amount of daily to my frag tank. Does seem like a good product, if I forget to do it stuff does not look quite as good, and then they pick right back up as soon as I dose.
  5. Good point Ira, I read an article about this, and the whole thing is actually more complex than one might think. The reason is that a good aquarium bulb, will in fact emit a range of colors, both for coral health, and viewer satisfaction. Therefore arriving at a kelvin rating can be subjective. Bottom line is what Chimera said - "so long as it's bright and shiny and makes my corals grow im happy"

Peter, Funny Post  On the zeobac thing, dosing is continuous. When starting, it is dosed daily, and this is reduced after time. In a few months when nutrients are very low, dosing can be reduced considerably, but cannot be stopped altogether. If it is, browning of the corals may occur. The amount to be dosed can be gauged in part by the appearance of the corals. That is based on the manufacturers directions. Some on this board may think they have a better understanding of the zeovit system than the manufacturer does, but if it is someone who tried it and failed, I'd treat their advice with caution.

Thanks for the useful info Layton. Seems like I learn something new every day!

Way Cool! So how do I actually get to buy one of these? I think my tank is ready
  9. Interesting observation, and very true. Can take a few weeks for them to burn in before you find out the real colour. Not very experienced with halide bulbs, but I did find the aquaconnect a quality, well priced brand.

    Caulerpa taxifolia

Yup, that's what we did here. Introduced stoats to eat the rabbits.
  11. ERIC - Is that some code?
  12. Thanks. I'll talk to Hollywood about that. May not need the brine much longer though, the little goby is at last starting to eat a little frozen food.

Oh well, guess the guy was just a scientist in molecular immunology. What would he know?

    ZEOVIT

Here is a quote from "Jacstat" at RC, he is a reefer, and by trade a scientist of molecular immunology. I post it as it can put to rest the idea that there is no point in dosing bacteria to an already cycled tank. - "As far as biology, I don't know much about Zeo. What I do know is that if one wants to introduce a new complement of bacteria to a closed environment, one would not want to do it quickly. A small inoculation would be adequate, especially considering that the inoculation is repeated every day or two, over weeks. It would be strange to me if Zeobak did contain a high concentration of bacteria. As I've said earlier, these are living organisms that need to adjust and grow into their new environment. You can't bring these populations up and into equilibrium overnight. This is basic biology. As for viability, I see no reason why chemolithotrophs can't be kept in a bottle at room temp for months, particularly at the concentrations described (10e6/mL). As for contamination, I think that's ridiculous. If you think that it's any kind of feat to isolate and expand cultures without contamination then I'm not sure if whose intelligence you're insulting. This was doable 100 years ago. Solbby and I do this sort of things everyday, sometimes with irreplaceable samples."
  15. I've currently got a 20k and a 10k right next to each other, angled so the light mingles by the time it hits anything, perhaps something similar to what you are thinking of, but actually I think 2 x 14 k's would have been better, that's what I'm doing at next bulb change time. IMO you should go with a high quality 14k bulb in all of them. However, it would also depend on aquascaping and just what effects you are trying to achieve. Also some organisms will look better under different k ratings to others, so some experimentation may be needed.
  16. Yes, you guys are right, now I remember, that's what Reef told me. I've got some of those spirulina fish food pellets, I will crush one up. Cheers
  17. I'm hatching out brine shrimp for a little goby who will not eat anything else. They're a little small though, I want to grow them a bit & also "gut load" them. Just wondered if anybody knows what I could use for brine shrimp food? Preferably something I can get at the supermarket.
  18. Hmmm... sounds exactly like what was happening here. Once the clowns grew big enough, they chased him out.
  19. Mine used to do exactly that. Is he bigger than the clowns? If you see him opening his mouth in what looks just like a quick yawn, it is actually a threat.

    ZEOVIT

Hi Fay, Well I do hope it all works out, although I would regard with caution the advice given to just keep feeding the same and it will all sort itself out. The simple maths is if phosphate in is greater than phosphate out, there will be a phosphate problem. If you want to go the phosphate remover route, Layton is likely correct, may pay to disconnect the zeovit at that time.

First I got to actually GET the acros Reef, that's where I'm hoping you'll come in. At the moment I have one green one. When I get some more if I can, I'll photo upon arrival, and then in a few months.

I think quite a bit of the unproovable stuff may be generated by "Kleypas et al., 1999  But hey, when you say something is wrong, and you "know" it is wrong, I still maintain it would be common courtesy to proove it, if it is a direct contradiction of what someone else said, just so folks know you didn't get your facts screwed up.
