  1. Fed my sun polyps last night and noticed that the sponge on the intake to my Ehiem wet/dry filter was packed with small bristleworms reaching out into the water trying to catch food.
  2. A lot of corals get exposed or reefs at low tide (I have seen brain corals exposed, sps etc). I would say that is a lot harsher than a salinity change and they deal with it twice a day. Reef had a big salinity change. What was the damage?
  3. I can sell you a brand new one for $170.00. Will be the same as the one Hollywood is selling.

    yeah right

Hollywood Fish Farm sell the setup new for $285. It's just wrong. I am sure you could keep a lot of corals in there for three months but what about 6,12 or 18 months?
  5. Ehiems are good. Wet/Drys had some teething problems and I think their aqua stop system could be better. Pricey, but if top off the line is what you want then it is the price you pay.
  6. Get some nori sheets from the supermarket for the tang. They love it and it makes them nice and fat. If the fish are eating all the food then the amount is probably good.
  7. Atmans are AquaOnes. Just a different box. If you are going for a hang on filter the the AquaClear would have to be the best. More media room than the others and they don't use a single cartridge that you throw away. Sharks=crap. Clog way to quickly. Fluval internals are pricey but were voted the number 1 internal filter in the UK. Powerheads - Aquaclear again. I have one that is over 10 years old and going strong. Rio - weak, break impellers and stop ALL the time. A lot of the cheap brands have only been on the market for the last 3-4 years since the market got more competitive and more wholesalers started importing direct from China. Look at the price of heaters!
  8. What looks a lot like a siamese fighter? A male guppy. That is why they attack them.
  9. I go with sponges. Plenty of people have lost fish and inverts to unprotected powerheads. Whats the difference between the crap collecting in a sponge or between the cracks and gaps between rocks?
  10. If you think this will eat fry, wait till the puffer hits the water - eating machines. Very partial to tails. I have three Red Eye Puffers in a plant tank. Very shy but great snail and guppy fry control. Only the super fit survive!
  11. Caulerpa is already a noxious plant here. DOC check pet stores occasionally for it and other noxious plants. They even check the type of oxygen weed that we sell.
  12. I have seen my wrasse and my flame angel brush the tenticles of my big anemone.

    Blue tang

I have assumed that they do not want an SPS tank just a dirty old LPS softy tank like mine with a bit of life in it. My guys seem pretty comfortable.

    Blue tang

You can have heaps more fish. My tank is 280 litres. 3 clowns, 4 tangs (none are small), Flame Angel and a 20cm Wrasse. Just don't rush it.

    Feeding Fish

Once a day if I remember and I feed them a lot of food. Nothing worse than a skinny tang. Mainly dry food and nori 2-3 times a week.
  17. I have used a Robocan for the last year with out any problems. They have two different types of cans - a repellant and a killer. I use the repellant. If you are worried, just make sure you run carbon in your filter.
  18. Find out what the store was feeding it and feed that to it. As long as a fish is in good conditon i wouldn't stress unless it hasn't eaten for a week. Keep an eye on that ammonia level.
  19. Dude, those powerheads, accident waiting to happen. Never assume that anemone won't move, let alone tha fish. It will happen when you are not home. Fit some sponges (I think eheim or eden have suitable ones).
  20. Option 1.5. Run them night and day. Takes a lot of water evaporation to bring the temp down. Mine is stable as 24 degrees. Go the warehouse fan!
  21. Is that helofungia sitting on the bottom of your tank on fine substrate? If not it should be. They walk. Damn good photo.
  22. Try 2 nets. 1 BIG, 1 small. Set the big net near the glass and use your hand or small net to drive the damsel into it. I would catch is now rather than letting them sort it out. That, or get a sea anemone, that will take care of the clowns. If it is an open top tank it doesn't take much to make a clown jump - like a damsel attacking from below.
  23. The white fungus is probably bacterial. Keep the lids of the tank to reduce humidity, good nutrition and clean water. It should clear up in time. New reptile tube will help with shell discolouration. You may not notice much improvement until they shed their shells and you see the new shell underneath. You could try some furan tablets. Works wonders on fish with bacterial problems.
  24. Time to invest in the quick filter that fits onto the 802. Costs less than $20. MUCH cheaper than a fish.
  25. I was wondering why my peral bubbles were starting to look pale. My tank hit 32 degrees yesterday and has probably been that high for a while. I brought a small $13 fan from the Warehouse, opened the hood, took the front lid off and put the fan blowing air accross it. Today it is sitting at 25 degrees. Evaporating water like crazy but its doing the trick.
