heheh I would love to see a post that did offend pies Great technology will not by itself compensate for lack of experience.... Great experience will mitigate poor technology..... For outstanding results I believe experience + technology are necessary. Funny how hard people find it to sell 2nd hand a complete setup for say $2-3000, when it cost way more to setup, but many think they can start with $1000 of new kit and add as they go..... From a purely financial point of view... why invest 10k into a tank if you do not own your own home????? rich dad, poor dad stuff...
-
couple of tanks, I am away until after easter, I will sort out tanks and date then, will post date. Peter
-
crawling will get you no where steve... everyone has seen your tank anyway.
-
by the time you have invested in everything required to "do" why make it hard on your self with such a small tank? make your life easy - go large on the Tank itself......
-
Mine is definitly in the nothing special category........ if you can read between the lines this is a social event... not a whos got a bigger tank event the more we meet, the less we will argue online........ so cuuning you could call it a weasil.
-
interesting... did hey say it was suitable for a marine begineer?
-
No but there will be a hot spa and BBQ at the end tank at my place....... Will have to tidy my room.... yeah time will be an issue..... But I have a plan......
-
So did anyone else go out to Pagoda over the weekend? impressions? I am thinking of ordering a pair of clowns through them. Peter
-
just let the lights go on/off an hour earlier........... bit like cows really.....

I am trying to organise a Tank Crawl in Auckland. Much like the proverbial Pub crawl, we will try and visit 6 or 7 tanks over a 4 hour period. I need tanks that people are willing to put on display... Please PM me if you are interested.... I will not publish any deatils until its all lined up and you confirm availability etc.... It would be on a Sunday afternoon.
-
Pies you da man! All the hard work is reflected in an amazing display...... I think it looks smaller in the piccies than it is, hard to get full appreciation on how big it really is!
-
pretty lame, I have seen people crash there boats into others simply because they knew that had right of way while racing .... (port/starboard rule) 70k + damage...... I give that 7/10 Perky... get your dad an Acrylic tank next time!

missed that, but it is really funny thinking about it......... moderaters here seem very active I have only ever seen one post moderated out of www.crew.org.nz in fact take a read of this thread http://www.crew.org.nz/phorum/read.php? ... 517&t=5517 its a whole lot of AKL sailings bagging our national federation..... if you watch it, its descends then climbs back........ recently my posts have been removed from here, yet I have recieved no warnings...... I really feel if its important enough to remove the post, then there should be a warning issued. lots of posts where removed. lots of people should have got warnings.

just found this, seems like a good idea....

official supplier for IWAKI pumps is DLM WALLACE PUMPS (09) 622-9100 but its much cheaper to import one. these guys are ok http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fus ... s/ssid/332 I am not sure Ehiem's are designed to handle the back pressure pushing through a old swimming pool filter would generate http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fus ... 4/cid/1931 this one would do it.... the md55 but YOU MUST ORDER 240V model
-
I did not cut and paste the availibility coloumn..... These guys seem to regularily stock the same stuff, but def not everything in there 600 item list! I am sure that you/reef have had a few unwelcome surprises when opening boxes.... lots of things add to the cost, packing, documentation, freight, maf fees, losses, importers time and capital setup etc........ All of these things still necessary on cultured corals too!!!!! As pies has stated several times, NZ hobists have setup MAF Qual just to stock there own tank! if you import 2k work of product, it would be 8k retail........... what has always made me scratch my head is the wide range that the fish sell for in the retail channel...... us$2 fish sells for NZ$59.95 but a $8 fish sells for NZ$200. but that fish does not always cost any more to transport etc... ok some do, but not all of them........ guess i will understand once i start importiong and have to calculate my actual costs etc to set prices.
-
buy an IWAKI, great pumps run for years.

the last number is the international wholesalers price per item US$ shipping/others costs will be the same if its wild caught or breed how could you raise an Anemone then sell it for US$2 $2us is a days wages in some of the countries that supply the trade. I think trademe with a picture and client picking up from a known supplier/person will be a walk in the park. Doubt that a NZ based online dry goods store ever be able to compete with the volume that the big US mail order shops do now! I have purchased quite a bit via american mail order and so far NO issues at all.... and no GST or tax yet charged. why does it matter where the store is when you purchase online? except shipping delay..........
-
its not economically viable at the moment, the wild thing can be harvested for such low cost, they use philopino divers paid peanuts, low cost locals for bagging........ a few large scale operations in florida/mexico have made it, but so many have not just look at paua farming here, not a gold rush! economics have to change at the supply point of the chain before it would be viable in NZ's tiny market.
-
If wild collection of coral/fish is proven to be damaging the reefs, NZ will sign up at the first hint of a international collection ban agreement... I can see this happening in time, then will will all look to wasp for advice etc...... on how to propagate more of our own corals. Anyone can call me Peter
-
but to many of us, your two little tanks are like a candy store ! you are not just selling coral frags... you are proving to others it can be done! I am suprised that more people not also doing it, maybe as you have hinted, its costs money and takes time.... sometimes significant others may object to "more tanks" in the garage as well!
-
yes, but how did you meet/find new people..... I bet trademe was your "free" advertising.... it can give you email addresses of people you have sold too..... I bet a mailout would be more efffective now and you could "set" your price... quick sale no issues..... yes if someone is paying you money and you want an ongoing relationship it will cost time..... not sure how to deal with this one if you where selling 20-30 things each week.... maybe have a collection hour on Sat/Sun, if they miss it, roll to next week. when i visit wholesalers I love to spend time looking at tanks/systems/plumbing etc... its human nature....
