  1. Its looking very attractive, I like it a lot. I think I'd put some sort of plain backing on it to avoid the distraction of the curtains and any algae problems you might get from the light from the window. Cheers Jude
  2. That's clever, Misnoma. I think I have it sussed though. I've used a suction cup to attach some clear piping to the glass. One end is under water and the other isn't. I tried putting some flake in that and it sunk straight away ................ plus there was the fun of watching the fish try to eat what was still in the tube    And all the food remnants have landed in one place on the gravel which should make tank maintenance easy. All I need to do now is work out how to blow it in from ground level so I don't have to climb all the time       Cheers Jude
  3. but Ira, I would have to climb a ladder to do that
  4. I put all my tiger barbs into a big new tank the other day and I've noticed they won't swim to the top for their food. Some of the flake eventually sinks and they eat it but a lot stays floating. So far I haven't got the sump operating but when I do, all the food is going to sail over the overflow and into the sump before the fish get a chance. Short of putting the barbs in the sump, how do I get around this problem? Cheers Jude
  5. I agree, they look like my SAE's
  6. Hi and welcome Min Mystic, if Caryl's just furniture does that mean she needs polishing?  Cheers Jude

  10. A certain fish shop with branches round the country does sell SAE's but calls them flying foxes so you probably do have the right fish. Cheers Jude

Blob out? I thought we melted      Right now, you'd have to tread water! Cheers Jude
  12. What sort of filter are we talking about? If its an internal one with filter floss I think you need to rinse that out regularly. But bio filters work best when not cleaned often because they need to build up the good bacteria to process the water. I don't clean my external cannister often and sometimes all I do is rinse off the mechanical filter (foam pad). Cheers Jude

    Oh No!!

  Maybe in summer. We had one a couple of years ago and picked the hottest day of the year. It ended up with everyone trying to cram under my one shade tree ......... chairs on the lawn, chairs in the garden, cats under the chairs .................... It was a good day despite the heat although I was so hot I wasn't much of a hostess and Ian was so hot he made others do the cooking    Actually, when I think about it, its dangerous coming here for a meal. When Wok and Ballistic and Mystic came round for tea we had takeaways and Wok had to bake a sponge for desert!!!!! If I have another BBQ, be prepared to cook Cheers Jude

    Hi All

    Hi Corms and welcome
  15. That is so beautiful. It gives me something to aspire to. And its making me think again about MH lighting. Cheers Jude
  16. Thanks for the idea Slappers. I thought of the cupboard heaters before I thought of the towel rails but I wondered about condensation issues and a towel rail is designed to be used in wet areas. And thanks Suphew - I wondered about that too but I've heard so many people say that if you have a lot of tanks its cheaper to heat the room than heat each tank. I thought the same principle might apply here. If I had to add a thermostat and temperature probe it would be even more cost so its probably not an option. Damn, seemed like such a brilliant idea at 3am    Cheers Jude
  17. Has anyone tried heating a cupboard containing a sump? I was thinking that it might be possible to fasten a heated towel rail to the underside of the top of the cabinet, providing heat for the sump water and undergravel heating for the tank. Any reasons why this wouldn't work? Maybe because they are designed to be vertical, they wouldn't operate well (or safely) in a horizontal position. Does anyone know whether this would be an economical or expensive way of providing heating? Does anyone know why I always have these thoughts in the middle of the night when I am trying to sleep ................ and does anyone know how to turn them off?    Cheers Jude
  18. They can't be too fussy - they survive in my tanks ok.

  20. I am hoping to catch some of mine by putting courgette into a glass jar - then lifting the whole jar out with a net ............ wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
