    Greetings

Hi and welcome - just thought I'd wait till everyone else had finished   Cheers Jude
  3. Yep there is plenty here. Give me a ring sometime and pop round for it Cheers Jude
  4. Funny that its probably a hydrocotyle - if I looked hard enough I'd probably find some in my boggy back lawn    Cheers Jude
  5. Hi and thanks - interesting link And no, its hasn't flowered yet but perhaps it will soon Cheers Jude
  6. Hiya echo and welcome I'm sure you'll have lots of fun and learn heaps here Cheers Jude
  7. Yes its legal - both the choices are. It only needs to be a small bag but I prefer the plastic padded ones because the plants are more protected and the water won't leak out. The ones about half the size of A4 are fine. PM me for my address Cheers Jude
  8. I have pieces of this plant to give to anyone who is willing to send me a stamped, addressed plastic (courier type) envelope. I grow it floating and I like it more than the Indian ferns as it doesn't make so much of a mess. I've tried to plant it but it seems to want to float. I thought it was cardamine lyrata but after reading this article, I think its more likely to be Hydrocotyle leucocephala http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/pla ... 0leuc.html I've also looked at these pages in an attempt to id it but am still undecided. Cardamine http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plant_survey/aq ... 731ad4abc4 http://www.tropica.dk/productcard_1.asp?id=024 Hydrocotyle http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plant_survey/aq ... 7c48b2f809 http://www.tropica.com/default.asp I would love some help with identifying this plant.
  9. Cool, thats exactly what I was hoping Jude
  10. I've just been pondering! I know the little corner filters that you fill with dacron are mechanical filters and the external cannister filters are biological, with an element of mechanical filtration. If I wanted to have one of the small internal corner filters running in a tank just so I could then use it to instantly cycle a new tank, would it work to fill it with ceramic noodles? I am curious because I want to put one in the back corner of my L shaped tank, and it would be really difficult to get to if I had to change the dacron frequently. Maybe with noodles it would become more biological than mechanical and I wouldn't have to constantly rinse out filthy dacron. Or would it just fill up with gunk and need rinsing out as often as dacron? Cheers Jude
  11. Considering the way plastic is becoming a worldwide nuisance I wonder how long it will be before it is classed as invasive and plastic plants banned from our tanks

    So how long?

    Caryl said But I will
  13. They actually had them labelled as gambusia????? They obviously don't knwo the rules. As far as I know there is no loophole around these fish. You are not allowed them for any reason. Cheers Jude
  14. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I think it would be sensible of them to pop in here sometimes and get an overview. I've never seen anything in here other than encouragement to stick to the rules and a genuine concern for protecting our waterways etc. I agree with Caryl and the others. I'm glad they are doing their job. Cheers Jude

    Wellington People

Where are they? I didn't even know they had them. I presume it would be too cold in the lake so are they in some sort of greenhouse or something? Would be fun to take the grandson in to see them. Cheers Jude
  17. Did the conservation guy have to ask permission or did he also have the right to check out your property without permission? I'm wondering just how many people do have the right to just wander onto my property whenever they like. Cheers Jude
  18. Thanks, I've googled them, I don't have them, and I now know what they look like so I can avoid them in the future Cheers Jude
  19. Ummmm, Suphew - if the power is out Bunnings would be shut    Just a thought worth considering Cheers Jude
  20. How do MAF know who has fishtanks? Surely they aren't just knocking on doors at random? Cheers Jude

    blue gourami

Yep, I know Paul, I was really upset. And thanks Mystic Caryl, I think you might be right. Later on today I noticed one of my big angels hiding in the corner and realised he/she had been doing it for some time. Whenever it tried to come out the other big angel head butted in and chased it back. Maybe it was doing the same to big blue. I've moved the aggro one into another tank and already the other is coming out and feeding. Wish I'd noticed him picking on the gourami in time. Cheers Jude
