  1. Greeblies (or greebies) are in the same technical grouping as thingamebobs and whatchamacallits and stuff. In the case of greeblies it applies to something small, yucky, and living which you cannot identify. Greeblies frequently have lots of legs or look disgusting. Thingamebobs, whatchamacallits and stuff are used to describe inanimate objects rather than living ones. For more information, refer to Caryl's dictionary of technical terms.     Jude

    Hey from England

I'm not sure if we can get tropica plants although we do have many of the plants listed by them. I just collect/swap with friends and others. I don't have a very high tech set-up so content myself with the easily grown ones. This forum has a list of plants available here if you are interested in looking through it http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plant_survey/ Cheers Jude

    Hey from England

Welcome lol that rings a bell with me. My interest in plants is gradually overwhelming my interest in fish. Cheers Jude

    Overflows

Nobody yell at me - I know I am thick about this stuff     Would the siphon hole be needed if the top of the U was below the top of the overflow? If the pump stopped pumping water into the tank the water would soon stop running into the overflow. And what is back pressure? Cheers Jude

    Overflows

Hi Ira You would be more than welcome to come and look but we can't see how to get anything in there - the overflow is a triangle in the corner - approx 8cm out from the corner of the tank. Most of it is covered by the bracing which runs along the back and the end of the tank and is approx 4cm wide. Here's a rough sketch - not in proportion and I'm no tech drawer, but it gives an idea.

Yep, if I could find something like that it might work well. My son has suggested holey cheese ........

Yes I know you did Ira - but you didn't tell me how to get it into the overflow area - we just can't access it at all
  15. The Fluval 204's come with 4 fancy L shaped pieces of plastic - two for each hose. The flexible hoses fit into these so you can make them bend wherever you need them to. Priobably the other '04 fluvals have them too.

    Overflows

The trouble is, I can't. The triangular overflow section is fairly small and its directly under the bracing - which runs around all 4 sides of the tank. It's impossible to even get a syphon hose in there. Cheers Jude

    Overflows

That sounds to me like it might be the easiest option. I'm wondering about putting the bioballs in a mesh bag so they could be pulled out and rinsed when it got too yucky. The overflow is very visible so I'd hate it to look grungy. In the meantime I've been to the chemist and bought one of those scrunched up mesh bath cleaner thingies. I will try wedging that near the top of the overflow and see what happens. Cheers Jude

    Overflows

I agree Feelers but there is no pipe - except for the one joined to the hole in the bottom of the tank. And there's no room to add one short of taking the whole thing to pieces, dismantling the tank, and starting again. So I need the next best option please

    Overflows

The new tank I've set up has a triangular corner sectioned off and the water flows into that, falls to the bottom, then into a pipe and into the sump. Does anyone have any ideas for stopping the noise of the water pouring over the top and landing on the bottom? I've tried keeping overflow area full of water but the pump isn't powerful enough to return the water fast enough, so I had to restrict the flow into the sump. This is working but not very well. It decreases the turnover of water and if a fish manages to get through the grill it will cause a blockage. Any brilliant suggestions for ways to quiet the waterfall down? Cheers Jude

How big is a decent size? Gold barbs get to a few inches long and are bright and colourful. My SAE's are a good 5 inches long. Then of course, there's always pearl gouramies!
  23. It seems to appear first on the fins, looks like tiny little white spots as if sprinkled with something. I'd suggest getting some white spot cure from your lfs so you can treat quickly if it appears. Cheers Jude
  24. Hi scott and welcome Mostly I think we just cross our fingers and hope it will never happen. I have had the water slosh, but not slosh out of the tank, in the smallish shakes we get from time to time. It is recommended that they are fastened to the wall in some manner to stop them toppling but this is not always easy to do. Cheers Jude
