  1. Hi and welcome. My advice would be to shut your eyes whenever you see a marine tank and slap yourself whenever you think about them ........ If you think tropicals are expensive, wait till you see what marine tanks can cost
  2. I just love this place. There is always someone willing to offer help Sorry to hear about what has happened. What a tragedy.
  3. LOL fishkeepa and Mrskz - not really. It's just that I was hosing down the deck at the weekend and I cut my heel - once the blood mixed with water it looked like a horror movie scene and yet when I took the plaster off later I couldn't even find the hole. It looked a lot worse than it really was
  4. No you wouldn't - the kid would bleed and the blood would mix with the water and go for miles .................. would make a dreadful mess and probably a dreadful noise

    300L pond

Maybe she needs to put some bags of peat in there for a while.
  6. yep, what Shae said. Wrap the rock and the riccia in the net - or use a hairnet/bun net - but the shower thingies from the $2 are better.
  7. The fish in one of my tanks love the dried stuff but they tend to be a bit wary of it at first. Once they've tried it they go into a feeding frenzy which attracts the others. The fish in another tank totally ignore the stuff!!!!
  8. If the string won't go through, tie it to stiff wire and push that through first - maybe
  9. I haven't tried it yet but it's on my list of things I want to do. I think the concrete would harden the water rather than soften it, but hopefully the peat would counteract that. The instructions I read suggested using a shallow wooden tray. lined with plastic and filled with sand. You then made lumps where you wanted caves, and hollows where you wanted protrusions, and poured the mix over that. When it was set you could hose off the sand. The site also suggested you could dig a shallow trench in the garden and use that as a mold. Cheers Jude
  10. Can you take them outside and blast a hose through them? Use a bottle brush securely tied to a string and pull it through the pipe? Ummmmm - if I have any more brainwaves I'll let you know    Cheers Jude

All our supermarkets sell vinegar - I don't think you need to bring your own
  14. Thanks evil, I didn't see that. Still, it would have been a good suggestion for some tanks
  15. What sort of tank? Perhaps you could turn it round so the scratch is at the back and hidden by plants
  16. You don't say how many fish you have but if the plants are growing and looking healthy I wouldn't worry about fertiliser - the fish waste will be feeding the plants Cheers Jude

    New PIKES!!!!

I was a little bit disappointed at this thread - the perfect opportunity to pull his chain and everyone answered honestly     We don't really have takeaways here, we have to dig a big pit, line it with rocks, light a fire in it, then when the rocks are hot, bury the food in the pit until its cooked.    It's called a hangi and its delicious. Puha is watercress I think and its usually boiled up with pork bones. Or, according to legend, with Pakeha. A Pakeha is a white New Zealander. And Kumera is a sweet potato. I've seen vinegar in fish and chip shops - I think you probably have to ask for it because its not used as much here.
  19. Hi and welcome. I hope you manage to get the problems sorted out quickly. Cheers Jude
  20. Oh, you guys are just silly - they glue the lids on of course
