  1. I would get the JBL (yello box, green lid)brand baby food, i found the other one not so good. Get some BS going to
  2. Can't see any major issues with it, as long as the filter will still work.
  3. Just as they get bigger. Once they have a bit more size they will be able to hunt out food a bit better.
  4. The shop did... Golden barbs were the same. Quite big fish small eggs and reg breeding.
  5. I have found sometimes the first sapwn of some fish is not as good in numbers and health of the egg. I would suggest that you drop the water level down to about 50mm, this way the fry don't have to move as far to find food. The idea is for food to find the fry in the first few days. Tiger barbs can have huge spawns, in the past i have spread them out between tanks and also knocked the smaller ones off. Good luck

    Thanks all.
  7. Please don't take this the wrong way iisfaq. Just goes to show how important a Quarantine Tank is. Sure Animates should not have sold them, sure Brooklands should not have sent them. At the end of the day it is up to ourselves to decide what we put in our tanks. Im sure you would not have brought them if they had looked like the photos you showed. Whitespot can come on to healthy fish when they first get put into a new tank, i brought cardinals the same time (aquaday) and they had whitespot about 3 days later, 2 weeks went buy and it happened again to some otehr fish that were added, i really don't think this was the shops fault as it is common when new fish get added. The other thing is that some of these nasty bugs take a bit of time to show up, and other are always present in the fish, just takes a slight change for the bug to come out. I also find it interesting that the neons survived there 6 week Quarantine. When i worked importing fish we found we would get the odd tank (neons) with the diease you described and the fish in those tanks were all dead within 72 hours, furan 2 did not really work on this either. Anyway hope it all works out im sure i also would be able to find the odd fish to get you going again.

Whats the wavelength of the led's?
  11. The ballast would not get to hot however the bulbs would. You can also mount the ballasts away from the hood, from memory my one allow for a cord length of about 1200mm between bulb and ballast.
  12. Does anyone know if these guys are still around?? Anyone have a email address?? Thanks
  13. Thats right no good, one of the downsides of NSW. At least you spotted it.
  14. Sump, easier to clean to.
  15. Chch water is really good, nothing at all is added to it. It sits at around 7.0 - 7.4 depending on where the water is sourced from. Ph can also drop if the tank gets to dirty ie. not enough water changes. These days most fish can live in water with a ph of about 7.0, however some fish will do better with ph that has been changed with the addition of peat, wood, coral sand etc. Cycle could have an effect on ph. If the water was that dirty that it had a low ph it could increase it as the bacteria worked, however i think this would be by a pretty small amount. I would never add any chemical like ph up or down. in most cases a water change is all that is required. this may also help, http://www.firsttankguide.net/ph.php

Ok, are also called bar mesh chairs Come in a range of sizes most hardware stores will have them.
  17. I have some if you can't find it anywhere else. I found bunnings, mitre 10 and placemakers did not have any or the staff had no idea where it was. There is a garden centre on Centaurus Rd that has it. I also used the Daltons pumice on my new tank.

The idea or the eggcrate or bar mesh stools is to lift the rock of the bottom. The less points that touch the ground the better. It is also a good way to make it look like you have more rock than is there. If you place the eggcrate or bar mesh stools first then add sand you will be safe from burrowing fish. I have always glued my rocks together, well at least the bottom 2/3. Most use selleys aqua knead-it, mitre10 or placemakers stock it.
