  1. How do you know the green iguanas were put down. New of two down this way that were not put down. They have since died though. Thanks for the other info, anyone on here selling them?
  2. For light scratches, use a buffing compound such as car wax, using the buffer provided lightly buff the sheet until scratches disappear. If it is a bit deeper a very fine sand paper then buff. Unfortunately, you will never get a deep scratch completely out.
  3. Does anyone know where to buy either the bearded or water dragons from. Have seen the couple on trademe. Any one here have some. Also do you know about the history of them? Are they all, or are most of them from the same family??? What about leopard geckos? anyone seen these?
  4. They are used for crushing pills and then mixing in with dog/cat food. Very handy. Great for making your own fry food.

    Filter for fry tank

plus sponge filters have a very low flow rate, most others will suck the fry in.
  6. what about a pill crusher, vets should have them. Easy to clean and cheap.
  7. standard type tanks are 36 x 18 x 18 6mm glass, 48 x 18 x 18 6mm glass or 36 x 24 x 24, 48 x 24 x 24 10mm glass.
  8. Its not uncommon for certain areas of beaches/bays etc to have levels of 136 enterococci per/100ml (MPN). At this level it can be a health risk and alerts can be put out. There are lots of points round NZ that have discharges of processed effluent into costal areas. It has been showen that at certai times of the year levels of entercocci go through the roof. Ever notice signs saying don't eat the shellfish? Can't say where this is but a concern? How about zinc? these levels are on the up to. The point is that you have no way of knowing what the water is like that you are collecting. You may be fine for weeks, months, years but then you get the one bad lot and....How much $ would you loose. Levels of bacteria can increase very quickly to levels that are extreme and you have no way of knowing. Same with metals etc. Don't get me wrong i think NSW is fine if you get it from somewhere that has no potential for contamination. But Takapuna boat ramp playing with fire i rekon.

    pH question

You could cause more problems by adding chemicals to the water, not natural. Best idea is (as Alan said) do more water changes. Do you gravel clean? How many fish are in the tank? Is the filter due for a clean? Is there good air flow around the tank? Airstone? All these things can help with ph problems. Oh and Chch water tends to be quite hard so has quite good buffering.
  11. True, also the sunset gouramis
  12. bacterial infections are quite common with this type of gourami. It was not uncommon to see 40 or 50 cobolt gouramis with the same thing. Found furan-2 to work the best as well as lots of water changes

    Brownish water

Do you have any wood in the tank? If so the wood could be leaching tannins, if this is the case it will go away. Accuclear is really only any good if there are larger particles in the tank as it forces them to clump together and sink to the bottom. Most of the time filter wool will do the same sort of thing.
  15. As others have said check the air intake and replace the pipe if need be. Sometimes it is just a salt buld up or even a carbonate. Sucking freshwater thru it can help to. Some people do this once a week or so.

    Tetra Schooling

most tanks are two snall for fish to school like they would in nature
  17. This may help They are little brass? rollers so there is next to no friction. I have seen the aquamedic ones and they are quite different.
  18. I would double check the spinny thing to see how it works. My one has little rollers which some others don't have. This reducers the ware and tear on the tubes. I have some that just rub over the tube compared to some that roll over it. Hope that makes sense.
  19. They also look nice when young but there colors go quite bland as they get older. I would never put them in my tank. In saying that a tank by themselves would be fine
  20. Two small clowns would be fine. but at the end of the day you have to decide what fish you want Any fish in the tank may eat them or other living things in the tank. You may find that you do one 25% change a month but suck out a bit of rubbish every now and then. You may find the cooking process to be a bit quicker with smaller bits but really depend on how dirty the rocks are to begin with. If you take your time with this it will pay off.
