  1. lol Im sixteen, and if where going by inter species relations im something like a great great great great Grandpa. My family tree could be rather confuseing, considering theres a lot of daughter to father breeding etc. Shae
  2. I would discourage the use of Duckweed. Riccia and Indian fern are good. Shae
  3. a sealant doesnt help, as the silicon air tubing is flexable and eventually the sealant brakes or cracks and subsequently can leak. Thats why i just make the hole smaller than the tubing, perfect fit and seal everytime. Shae
  4. Use a 5mm drill bit when drilling the top, then angle cut the 6mm air tubing, fit it through and your done. Shae
  5. I stand by Fluval, never had an issue in my years of fishkeeping. Your fault for purchaseing through courier. Should have just bought from a store, create yourself far less hassle. Shae
  6. ahh i was thinking of the wrong genus sorry. Shae
  7. Is that the only opinion of this skimmer? Shae
  8. Julie's are not tangs, and they will not go together happily. Shae
  9. you'll find you get alot more help through there site Also you can buy online. Shae
  10. Yes you did give it to me Its ratted for a 360-400gph pump, so i reckon an Atman PH3500 would run it? Im just wondering how effective it is? Cheers Shae
  11. Another question, unrelated though are these skimmers any good? Cheers Shae
  12. Its a 50x50x50 Cube. seems 14k is the way to go then. Cheers Shae
  13. "blonde" the proper term is Golden, it refers to the colour of the body. So you've got your Gold's and your Greys. Beyond that, guppys are then classed by there tails or colouration for example : Snakeskin and Deltas As far as pictures and labels go, you have asked a big feat of us. However this is something i was working on when i was putting together a database of Guppy species in New Zealand when i was the Poecilias Breeding and species Co-Ordination. Then it changed its name to the NZLA, and since then it seems to have died, so your abit outta luck. Shae
  14. I won't be able to fit any actinic tubes in the hood. Its only a small setup. Once the two MH's are in the hood, i was intending to wire up a bunch of blue LED's, cause there so small. Would this work? Shae
  15. Right so what if i mixed? cause i like the hint of blue look, and went with a 10000k in one and a 14000k in another? or would it be smarter with just two 10000k. I just really dont want a yellow tank, and ive been told 10000k look abit yellow. Shae
  16. I am tossing up between the 150watt 10000k and 14000k MH bulbs, ive been told about the different colours and such. I was just wondering if anyone actually had a colour spectrum chart so i know exactly what sort of colour light id be looking at for in my display tank. Cheers Shae
  17. it might 'affect' both eyes, whether it 'infects' both eyes is another story, I have only ever once seen a really bad case of Popeye with a fish that had both its eyes almost exploding out of its skull. Other than that I have only seen cases with one eye being 'infected'. As I say treat for it, better to be safe than sorry. Shae
  18. Then put him in the Quarintine tank straight away. Add some Aquarium Salt and if you dont already have any you can try either malafix or Cure-ex, both available from any petstore, follow instructions on back. Sounds as if your Gourmie is past helping. Generally there is nothing you can do after a pop eye infection takes hold as far as saving the eye goes, best you can hope for after treatment, is that he keeps one eye and lives happily, Fish can compinsate well. Shae
  19. There's a lot of different information out there, essentially the same, just called different things, no worries, just clearing that up. Shae
  20. Unfortunately Genetic "weakness" is becoming quite common in New Zealand these days. Damage caused by the environment, is irrelevant, as it has little to do with the disease itself and is also subject from case to case. Separating out, is often only done when strain breeding, and it is genetic "weakness" that has caused the problem of the females birth canals being too small or stressful to release there fry in the first place. Often as not, supplying a tank planted out with few males is good enough. Water parameters are again subject from case to case, and have little to do with the actual disease that is causing the mass of death and deformities all around New Zealand Stress describes most of the above, and is a very general issue, faced by all keepers of all fish, not just guppies, and is commonly rectified easily. Shae
  21. Clamping is a sign of stress, not a disease...... Shae
  22. I am no expert on this matter. Something to remember is fish cannot blink, therefore they need the dark in order to sleep, so my opinion would be, have the normal light on until dusk, then turn on the moontube until you go to bed, that way you will also see things that wouldn't come out in the daylight. Shae
  23. When Killies no longer become a Luxery Tropical Fish, or hard to obtain, then that thought may become appealing. For now i suggest you not attempt this, nor anyone else, or fast lose your friendship status in the NZKA, i don't think many members would be too impressed to find out you'd been relesing killies into the wild. I also imagine they would be pray for predatory fish. Shae
  24. I didn't have a Moontube, but Newtman did, and it looked really good. Shae
