  1. The males will chase the females and sometimes quite aggressively. They have been known to kill them but that is pretty rare, especially in a tank that big. As P44 said that once the female lays things will change drastically. Females will fight and attack anything close. They will definitely kill the male if he cant get far enough away. They are nasty and fearless when it comes to protecting their young. I have seen them taking on full grown angels or discus by swimming under the gill plates and biting them on the soft exposed tissue. You should be fine in a 180ltr tank especially if you have lots of hiding places. Usually you run into trouble if they are in a small breeding tank.
  2. I don't know the ingredients list but the stuff is great. Cant remember how many times I have recommended it. Usually the blue does fade alot quicker that it would with meth blue or other dye type medications but it has never failed me yet.
  3. The dates on this site are all an hour out anyway. Maybe its a new post that hasnt yet been writen?
  4. Looking really good. I dont mind the slightly more empty look without plants but I do think slightly more sand and some nicely placed pieces of driftwood. I am a fan of the (AKA) Geo's they look very cool and happy. Im wishing for a big SA tank now more and more.
  5. Always have one spare person for a big lift like that. Nothing worse than feeling your fingers slipping especially if you are moving 240+ kg of glass with just over 5 mtrs of smooth edge and sharp corners with no handles. You could get maybe 6 people around it so that’s 40kg per person. + 1 with a camera
  6. These are beautiful fish and my guess is that Jennifer has the last breeding pair.
  7. I wonder how many times I would have to drive around Bulls before I spotted a deal like that lol. My score this week was 3 sheets of 2.4m x 1m 10mm glass sheets that I got given and free cutting in half long ways so I have 6 sheets of 2.4m x 500mm sitting in my shed. I was pretty happy with that but your find is so much better. I like the South American idea of Geos etc. Thats what I would like to do next perhaps with some wild angels if I can find some.
  8. They are so cute Jen, fantastic job. Let us know when they are up for sale as my apisto tanks are looking pretty empty now and so I could do with some new ones.
  9. No idea from that description. Forgive me if I am wrong here but by my count this is the 2nd death and you have another fish very sick that you want to give away because of a 4th that is in your hospital tank. I think you need to find out what the problem is because you are having a terrible time of it and I would really hate to see you loose any more. Do you know anyone in Auckland you can ask to come around to check things out?
  10. The garlic will act as an attractant. Fish, especially discus, like the smell and will often eat the garlic chunks by themselves. The main question is what are you using the garlic for? Garlic as a natural medication is only useful for a few hours after preparing it but because the smell remains even after freezing it can be used as an attractant for the month or so that the frozen food remains good for.
  11. A lot of to and fro about who's right and wrong but one young lady is left with a scar that may never fully heal from a promotion her company put on involving unpredictable and potentially lethal advertising props. I hope Animates at the very least is paying for her surgery and loss of income from this and any other job she may have.
  12. Its been a while but I think its 400mg per 50 ltrs or even better in food at 100mg per 10 grams of food. In food make a mixture up and feed only that for at least 3 days. In water if the fish i sno longer eating it ideally should be treated and then a 100% water change every 8 hours for 3 days but I think 1 dose and 1 x 100% water change per 24hours also works ok. Hopefully Jen will come along to fix up any errors I might have made.
  13. Thats really cool Antwan. I thought these fish had all died out so its great news that you still have some as well.
  14. Sorry to hear that Tough lesson to learn so I hope you have no more troubles.
  15. If it is/was TB, which has got to be pretty unlikely, then wouldnt you kiss good bye to your whole collection? My guess from reading this post and the equilivent post that was put up on SD that it is an internal parasite or worm. Furan was unlikely to do anything about it.
  16. Are normal house flies an option? Even in mid winter a few are still around and they are easy to catch and culture. I managed to catch a few fruit flies a few weeks ago too using a DIY trap
  17. Sounds really cool. Do you have any pictures?
  18. I totally agree. This has to be a wakeup call for boarder security, but maybe they never thought anyone would be that bold or that stupid. Love the fathers comment too "I cant understand it" taking about why his son got sent to prison, easy to see where the son gets his brains from eh.
  19. What a great idea but I think the price would be pretty high. The power required to move a car up and down on lifts would be quite a bit.
  20. We are at $400 every month summer and winter. 8 tanks (600ltrs total)in a reasonably well insulated fishroom, no clothes dryer or dishwasher and wood fires for heat. 3 adults 2 kids.
  21. If you are doing large daily water changes then you wont ever have an ammonia problem. I have never tested for those things because I know that if I change 95+% of my tank water every 2nd day and clean the sponge filters and wipe the inside of the tank down twice a week then I cant possibly have a ammonia spike. Even with fry you can change 50% - 75% per day.
  22. Slightly off topic but I was reading a bloodworm packet today and assuming they are between $5.00 and $7.50 per 100g pack and have 95% water isnt that only 5 grams of usable food per 100g pack and $1000 - $1500 per kg? I bought them anyway
  23. Does the mum agassizi take care of the discus fry as well?
  24. I doubt its Gigantea, If its straight then its most likely to be V.spiralis which can easily get 1.5 mtrs. Still banned though I think
