  2. thanks for the pictures... ...love that frog
  3. thanks for the links and the info... ...yes, Whistlers they are haven't found any spawn yet...
  4. there are some similarities thou... ...but I prefer the Southern ones, less people and way more fish in the rivers :happy1:
  5. purplex as far as I know there is no law but it is not recommended to sell (or buy) or transport them when they are smaller than 10cm. it is too much stress for them and many do not survive very long.
  6. I moved to Naseby (Central Otago) 4 weeks ago and already on the first night here I've heard a lot of frogs 'singing'. 2 days later we have had snow for two days, still singing. tonight I went out to have a closer listening and there are two totally different calls. is there a webpage with frog call recordings to find out what frogs they are ? (or do I have to catch some to find out ?)
  7. I hope UK / european import bird...
  8. if you're Swiss, everything looks the same...

  12. yeah and if you try them for the first time better go with a young female one... ...the male ones, the older they get the more they taste, let me say 'strange'
  13. while I was laying in bed yesterday I was thinking what else I did eat and I remembered some more 'game'... - Fox (marinated in red wine / Switzerland) - Snake (Taiwan) - Moose (Milford Sound - yea right, na it was in Switzerland in a Restaurant with a 'finnish theme week') - Roo and Crocodile (Australian Restaurant in Kopenhagen, Denmark) - Emu (air dried, made the same way as the famous Swiss Bundner Fleisch) and back in the days when we went to Yugoslavia for fly fishing we did eat cevapcici and mixed grill platter (who knows what was really in there but it was always delicious)
  14. interesting, please tell me more... !drool:
  15. I thought they were norwegians but no I am not... ...I'm swiss not swedish, it's not the same and I didn't poach anything, instead to leave it rot, give it to a cat or toss it in the awful hole I ate it... and did you know that the Mayas did eat Axolotl ? hmmmm... ? :nilly:
  16. hare, rabbit, possum, goat, venison, wallaby, horse, wild pig, duck, swan and guinea pig (and did even try wood pigeon - did fly into a big glass windows and break the neck - would have been a waste not to try it) next on the list is Weka (from a breeder not the wild)
  17. Switzerland - close to 8 years
  18. why are these strict regulations only for animals and plants ? I'm just saying... :sage:
  19. It is unclear how the eel became stuck inside the man - yeah right :rotf:
  20. I am glad she made it thru... ...having 2 dogs myself I know how 'mans true friends' they are
  21. your first two locations are part of the local car museum... ...and the Hotel is not just a Hotel, as you can see it's the Royal Hotel I was here in Naseby before on some 4x4 trips we made 2 and 3 years ago and I liked that place so much that I needed to move down there. and it seems I did the right thing, on the 2nd day of my arrival it started to snow and the next day someone knocked on my door. it was an elderly lady: 'Hi I am your neighbour down the road, it is so bloody cold at the moment so I thought I bring you some soup and a fruit cake to welcome you.' - how cool is that ? and we have an Indoor Curling Rink with ice 365 days a year. off season there are 120 people living here, on boxing day they told me it can go up to 7000 people and more (lots of empty holiday houses, big motor camp, Royal Hotel, Pub) I have to flee over christmas it seems...
  22. ok thanks, that makes sense although Couriers do not deliver to Naseby (they probably don't know where it is neither)... ...and it would be diesel (I will need to combine it with one of my six weekly trips to a town with a Pak'n'Save, Bunnings and other shops I am used to to have around - Dunedin it is)
  23. did I ask such a stupid question or does really noone know if there are any shops with tropical fish in Alexandra ? where in Timaru or Dunedin ?
  24. g'day, yes I did it, I moved down from Rottenrua to 2000ft above worry level, the beautiful Naseby. now I am in need of new plants and some snails for my Axo Aquarium. who can tell me where the closest pet shop with fresh water fish is ? does Alexandra has a shop ? (where ?) or do I need to drive to Dunedin or Timaru ? thanks for your help.
  25. hi, could you try to make a picture and post it ? do you have fish together with the axos in the tank ? 'the' salt therapy is probably something you should consider http://www.caudata.org/forum/f46-beginner-newt-salamander-axolotl-help-topics/f48-axolotls-ambystoma-mexicanum/f58-sick-axolotl/72698-salt-bath-picture-tutorial.html
