  2. anywhere actually, Alexandra, Naseby, Middlemarch, Ranfurly just to name a few, or any other little village or rural place, I work from home so all I need is power and an internet connection (Broadband, Wireless, Mobile, Sat Dish) and I really like the landscape down there... thank you all for your input so far, TM has many listed but I assume there must be more out there, places which do not get listed on the internet, places which people think are not worth to list, places which are only known from worth of mouth. unfortunately I don't have the time to travel south to look around...

  6. I came across this website http://axolotl.12see.de/biofilterung_hmf_51964881.html thru the german Axolotl forum and I would like to try this filter out in one of my Axolotl tanks. (some more info http://axolotl.12see.de/kombi-hmf_97062618.html ) where do I get this type of filter material here in NZ in a bigger size than just for bucket filters ? is it available or do I have to import it from Europe ? where do I get this air-lift from ? (that is the google translation for 'Luftheber' not sure if it is really called air-lift) where do you guys buy your tubes and hoses for all the different filters (buying it in a petshop means I have to win lotto first) and while looking thru the www I found this nice DIY bucket filter (you may already know this link - I post it anyway) http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/diy-aquarium-projects/62265-diy-pvc-pipe-canister-filter-step.html
  7. and that is part of the whole 'problem', if dogs roam they mainly kill introduced livestock (sheep and such) and that hurts wallets, if cats kill native birds and lizards, who gives a ... :an!gry
  8. I totally agree, I have two dogs, I live rural far away from the city and my dogs will never come even close to town and I have to pay for microchips and dog registration fees (just to pay for all the mangrol dogs in town roaming free and have to get caught) and all the cats are free FOR FREE killing everything native and everyone seems to be fine with it... ...any cat roaming free does more harm to our fauna than any escaped lizard, skink or dart frog (or White's Tree for that matter) just saying
  9. did anyone ever get stopped at a road block by MAF where they were looking for illegal reptiles ? :spop: never mind the ...

  11. hello, the clerk in the local pet shop told me that keeping Blue Tongue Skink in 'captivity' north of Bombay Hills is prohibited by DOC because if they can escape they would be able to breed in the free. is this the case or just another fairy tale ?
  12. thanks, exactly that one I already bought but wasn't sure if it is really the right one for the job. thank you all for your help...
  13. hello, I need to fix one glass tank, one of the glass stripes which holds the glass lids in place came off and I have to glue it back on but the question is what silicone or glue available in NZ I have to use. the edge of the glass stripe has to be glued on the flat side glass and when done and cured there will be weight on the glass stripe. so I need something strong, not flexible for glass, not easy...

I would like to use it in my future frog 'aqua-terra-rium'. they are easy to keep and grow like weed. talking about weed, has someone tried to grow weed in a terra... sorry, wrong place :digH:

  19. thanks, I didn't know what it is called in english. I will test the hang on filter but I probably will go with the sparge in the bigger aquarium. a bit OT but I ask anyway, drift wood, that is another point, can I collect it from the beaches or do I need to collect it from river banks ? 22. hello, as I am rather new to the aquarium side of the hobby I have a technical question about water filter and how to eliminate or avoid current or flow ? I am using a 1200x450x350mm aquarium for my Axolotl and I use a small internal filter, an italian made Shark all in one filter but even with that little filter there is a lot of current. would it be better to use an external filter and use a hose or tube on the full lenght of the aquarium with lots of holes to bring the water back into the aquarium ?
  23. Amy, go and get a refund, the pet shop should know not to sell (or transport) Axos smaller than 10cm
