  1. I got that part but what is actually wrong with the fish ? or is it the paua decor ?
  2. I am new into aquarium and fish, can you please explain... ? :dunno: (PM ok)
  3. I did ask this question in a german Axolotl forum after I did read in an english Axolotl book from 1981 that I could feed tadpoles to Axolotl. I nearly got lynched just for asking that question :an!gry . beside the danger to introduce chytrid fungus into your aquarium there is an enzim or chemical in tadpoles which they need for the metamophosis and this enzim or chemical can trigger the metamorphose in Axolotl as well if they eat tadpoles. in germany it is not against the law to keep morphed Axolotl (Salamander) but it is against the law to force them into metamorphosis. (and each and every native reptile or amphibian are protected by law and the fines are very high so no tadpoles from the pond for your pets)
  4. trouts and ponds or aquarium. in Switzerland they breed rainbow trouts in ponds which they release in rivers and lakes with a size of 22cm so they can immediately be caught by the fisherman. a lot of restaurants have an aquarium somewhere with live trouts were the guests can choose their 'fish pellets tasting' lunch or dinner. as long as there is enough oxigen in the water aparently they will survive. and the water quality in an aquaponic pond is probably way better than in many over fertilized (by cow manure) rivers and lakes.
  5. could one keep Axolotl in the tank instead of gold fish ? after all the Mayas did eat Axolotl... ...and they can really make a big mess (no I would never eat mine, just a thought, well, would I...) I don't get that with the Koi, aparently we have Koi in NZ, there are signs around some lakes telling people not to release Koi into lakes. or are they all gone ? what about japanese people ? are they alowed to keep them as pets ?

hi, my name is steve and I am from Switzerland but for more than seven years I live in New Zealand now. recently I bought 3 Axolotl (2x golden, 1x leucistic) on TM including a 1200mm tank to get one toe back in the water. back in Switzerland I held and breed different european and african snakes (non venom), green iguana (Iguana iguana), common basilisk (Basiliscus basiliscus), horned frog (Ceratophrys Ornata Argentine), western green lizard (Lacerta bilineata), slow worm (Anguis fragilis), common lizard (Zootoca vivipara), alpine newt (Ichthyosaura alpestris), fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra), common toad (Bufo bufo), natterjack toad (Epidalea calamita), common frog (Rana temporaria), pool frog (Rana lessonae), moor frog (Rana arvalis), european tree frog (Hyla arborea) and last but not least australian green tree frog (Litoria caerulea). that sounds like a bloody zoo not all at once, spread over a long time. the most I miss the australian tree frogs but reading this forum I saw there is maybe some hope (I will have to spend a lot of time up in coromandel in spring) on a side note, I read the Why register section and found two steps which seem to have changed 2. As a member you will be able to start topics and post replies. tried to post a reply yesterday, just got a message that a moderator have to read my post first, did not get posted (I can only hope this post will be posted) 5. As a member you have access to our private message system and will be able to contact other members directly. does not work neither, can't send PMs sorry for the spelling errors, if you find some you can keep them, english is not my mother tongue but I try hard
  8. ...and never ever feed your Axolotl frog tadpoles cheers, steve
