  1. what is a IHS ? I have had a look into this as well (for Axolotl sperm) and was told that it only could be done frozen and no x-ray when it goes thru customs.
  2. what type of toads have been or are used for research here in NZ ? (right, I seem to remember that there was also one in Queenstown airport 2 years or so ago, found as a stowaway in a boot from a tourist arriving from OZ)
  3. :gpo2: :rolfl: what toads do we have in NZ ?
  4. just googled NZ grasshoppers and found this one, seems a wee bit big for a leo the whole story: http://www.strangefarmer.com/content/item/101539.html
  5. I am still learning, what are ant theres ? (google didn't know either)
  6. what is the normal live expectancy for these wee frogs ? we desperately need some rain down here, was out yesterday to get some spawn or tadpoles, all the usual ponds are dry, all the tadpoles and other creatures in the ponds turned to dust :fshi:
  7. mine are now 1 year old, got them as tadpoles last year. they probably live longer in captivity than adult ones captured and held hostage, just a thought...
  8. well, that will definitely keep me off from importing one myself, how would I manage to change a plug ? :rolfl:
  9. the one from UK is NZ $213, if shipping is less than NZ $180 no additional tax and gst... ...everyone must have relatives in UK, right ?
  10. is this Exo Terra one the same ? (yes, it's 110V but not $600) interesting, this one is 220V and even cheaper
  11. I guess that answers my own question Measure range: -40°C~+120°C Slew range of temperature: 1°C-30°C Resolution: 0.1°C Accuracy: ±1°C (-50°C~70°C) Power supply: 220V AC, 50/60Hz Power consumption: less than 3W Relay contact capacity: Cool(10A/250VAC);Heat(10A/250VAC) Data retention: Yes
  12. I bought the first one and will buy this one as well, thank you. one fish, ten fish. lots of fish. many fish. - fishes ?
  13. no, mine are all swimming (and again, sounds strange)
  14. Ambystoma mexicanum are also known as Axolotl, which as long as they stay in their larva stadium (which they will if the environment is ok and they don't get feed with stuff from your local butcher). if they morph they become an unwanted organism here in NZ (still an Axolotl but now a danger for Kiwis and Hochstetters). the Ambystoma tigrinum or Tiger Salamander are from the same family but they go thru with the transformation to an adult salamander. Another variation would be Ambystoma Andersoni. you can interbreed all three, in our case Axolotl female with Tiger or Andersoni sperm, which will give in time some interesting new color variations. would be nice to have this color ? I am interested in the tiger or andersoni sperm for colors not the morph (that sounds strange aye ?).
  15. there are legal Ambystoma here in NZ, I have some as well, although mexicanum not tigrinum but that is just a minor detail
  16. how about some Tiger Salamander sperm ?
  17. anyway, I am still after some 'yellow' frogs... (or preferably tadpoles)
  18. I must have missed that PM or email then... :fshi:
