  1. anything specific to put in there as bait or will a piece of chicken heart or chicken liver do the trick will try that in the water race, bigger fish in there yes, did catch many last season for my juvenile Axolotl and frogs (for the frogs I did put them into a little glass without water and the frogs did climb into the glass to have a feast)
  2. Hoffmans Dam in the Naseby forest has lots and lots of little Bullies at the moment. I thought Bullies need fresh and running water. the little fish are sun bathing on the mud bank along the lake shore in the very shallow water. not that easy to take pictures of these little ones especially if the dog wants to go and have a bath as well there are bigger ones as well would like to get some before they get eaten by the trouts in the lake. what is a good trap ? what is good bait ? a coke bottle with the top part cut off and put on reversed should do the trick, right ? any better solutions ? don't want to use a net, they are way too fast and the water turns murky and stays that way too long... millions of little backswimmers (Notonectidae or boatman or what ever they are called) in there as well at the moment
  3. on every school ground... where are you from ? put a location into your profile, would be easier for everyone to recommend places, cheers.
  4. there must be someone on this forum from Tauranga (or near) who can help you out with a bottle or jar with some daphnia which you could pick up. put a want to buy ad in the WTB section maybe. they can be shipped. I've done it before and they arrive save. just start a water canister or bin NOW with some leafs or grass in it so it turns 'green' and is ready when you get yours (or put a couple of cooked rice corns or 2 pieces of cooked pasta and some lettuce in a jar with some water to have food ready when they arrive)
  5. Is there a fish available which will survive below 18° (12° to 16°) and will tidy up the tank bottom to get rid of any food left overs ? Need some cleaners for my WCMM and Danio adult tanks. This tanks are just the 'waiting hall' for the little fish before they can go on holiday to the Axolotl tanks. All the usual suspects have a lowest recommended water temperature of 18°. (Cleaning fish for the fish tanks not the Axolotl tanks, don't get me wrong). Or is my only option a couple of snails to clean up ? thanks
  6. are there none in yet ? did you do it right ? is the hay not too long ? :dnc1: just kidding, I can't say how long it will take as I actually forgot about that little project of mine and some day I saw the bin was full of green water and daphnia beside all sorts of other creatures, even Whistlin Tree Frog tadpoles. months maybe. if you need your daphnia now you better get some started daphnia from a pond or buy a culture on TradeMe.
  7. put a bin outside with some water and put some straw, hay or grass in it, be patience and wait. I have no idea how they suddenly are in there but you will get Daphnia. you could probably speed the whole process if you get some water from a pond or swamp. here in Naseby the outlet from the water treatment plant is full of Daphnia.
  8. thanks, I just wrote you an email, probably while you were typing this...
  9. we were tadpoles too last year... too much xmas cacke... what are you looking at... ? HELP: any hints where I can find Southern Bell Frog tadpoles ? Central Otago has millions of Whistler Tree Frogs but I wouldn't have a clue where between Oamaru, Palmerston and Dunedin I would find some Bell Frog tadpoles or spawn. who can help ? PM or email me if that is more convenient, thank you
  10. one year ago I was still a tadpole... ...now I am an obese Whistling Tree Frog (picture was taken after I ate a Moth nearly my size)
  11. ok, with Danio rerio I found two pages with some nice pictures... need to post a WTB
  12. thanks, I did as search for Zebrafish but it came up only with a half a page and most about some offshore stuff. didn't find any pictures.
  13. another season, another chance to ask. who can sell me some larvae ?
  14. who was interested to get some Whistler spawn ? (needed to delete some of my PMs - lost all your data) we got some rain down here and the frogs are busy at the moment doing what they are doing best. send me a PM...
  15. Do we have Zebrafish here in NZ ? Where can I get some ?
  16. that's exactly what my Axolotl think as well... :dnc1:
  17. my Pioneer receiver stopped working the other day after a power cut. now I am looking for a reliable place to bring or send the receiver to get fixed. do these places still exist ? places where you can bring a defective radio or receiver and it get fixed for a fair price ? I don't like to bring it to Hardly Normal or similar, they just send it to repair place and it will cost me an arm and a leg for a bid even if I decide not to fix it. thank you...
  18. my spare tank, a 1200 x 400 x 400 was outside over the winter time (empty) and it happen that we got 85cm of snow and one day the whole load of one roof side fell down onto the tank, the tank fell over onto the fire wood and now one side is broken. is it worth to repair a fish tank if I never have done that before or do I only ask for trouble as in wet carpet (old house, water would run straight thru the floor boards) and dried out axolotl ? if I decide to fix it, what brand and type of silicone is recommended and do I get it in bunnings or mitre10 or special shop ? does a normal windows repair shop can get me the needed glass or again only available thru special shop ? or would it be saver to turn it into a frog terrarium with two sliding glass pieces as opening doors and a fly mesh lid on top ? (and search TradeMe for another spare tank, problem here I am not even close to Auckland where all those big spare tanks seem to be available for cheap) something like this: any recommendations where I will find plastic double U profiles ? something like this: http://www.rothley.com/data_images/ALFER/G418_HEIM_Fuehr_schiene_Alu.jpg any help, suggestions or advice is very appreciated
