  1. round 1.... i added a regal angel just over a week ago (originally to my fuge) then moved him into the main display tank a few days ago. he seems very happy, is eating, swimming and behaving normal. however, my blue tang (just over twice his size) has taken exception to having the angel in his space. the angel spends most of the time under the reef rack coming out every hour or so for a look around and a feed but as soon as he does, the tang chases him back to his 'hole'. i would expect this to be normal behaviour due to fish being somewhat territorial. are they eventually likely to get along?
  2. they add reef solution each month - perhaps more than just a "few drops". go figure on the nitrites, nitrates and ammonia.
  3. awesome as always, love the pic's on your site. i've cycled through many of them for my desktop background at work! visit often, im sure your advice will be most appreciated here btw, i think you need some more blue tangs

  6. Ira - hahahhaaaa, that is classic - but I cant believe you ACTUALLY wrote them down - careful you might get 'lost'
  7. construction of it...
  8. ooops, yeah other way around! what is the difference? i thought silicates came from silica based sand? i think i have silicates in my water as i have a bit of brown algae growth. does anyone use a silicate absorbing resin? or is phosphate control sufficient to minimise this form of algae?
  9. hopefully on the ground floor!!!!!
  10. i agree. this would be a good size for a 4 foot tank. i suggest you post any q's you have on specific products you are considering purchasing on here and open it up for debate. dont need to say where you are buying from, just what and how much. im sure most here should be able to tell you if it's a rip off or good deal
  11. what about a half zeovit and half rowaphos reactor? two separate chambers in the same 'device' that can hold both media. i might try that myself what about making your self a little skimmer. or do you already have one?
  12. silicates are bad im sure i've read the best bet for fuge is coarse sand at bottom, say 1" - 1.5" thick then fine sand on top say 1/2" - 1" thick. does this right? if i add a coarser sand to my fuge, is it ok to stir it all up into one big mash?
  13. well if i had a spare 8 mil, i'd certainly buy it! how many people have taken the piss bidding on this island... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Real-estate/Sections-for-sale/auction-27642173.htm
  14. as i mentioned previous, i've got a fine sand in my fuge. supposedly crushed coral but im not so sure. it certainly isnt the same sort of sand you get at the beach, but it is a breeding ground for algae. so much so i think i'll ditch it all and replace with the same stuff in my main tank.
  15. fosroc silaflex rtv, clear ONLY can be used. get from any plumbing store, eg: mico's. the selley's is good but cannot be used under 'pressure'. not sure exactly how deep that represents though.
  16. i agree, the white sand is obviously a nicer look too. i have coarse white sand in my main tank and a finer sand in my refugium.
  17. It is a nice tank - personally I think it looks better now than it did several months ago. Colours are looking great. Rowaphos must be helping
  18. 20,000 is only start price, im picking reserve is at least double that
  19. i've got a couple bta's - dont feed them anything. if you do they'll grow HUGE apparently.
  20. i had forgot to add a syphon break to my new 1" sea swirl... until last night. lucky i did coz i tested as it was and the return pump would have run dry once the power went back on! the syphon break hole is lower on the 1" sea swirl than the 3/4" which meant more water back flowed. that meant more water overflowed out of the sump so when the pump turned back on, the water in the 'return' section would have completely emptied. problem is i've only got about 20 litres left in the sump for the return if the power goes off/on. this isnt enough based on the size of the entire system. need to increase height of middle baffle in sump to hold more water - or completely redesign sump. my ups died a few weeks back too think it got too much moisture in it. need to mount outside the room.
  21. does it come with those 20 litre plastic buckets for water changes? big move A, why selling? or are you just upgrading... no, not nz,... it's a yank tank...
