  1. ok, to ellaborate rxt = circulation or low head heights, rlt = high pressure/high head
  2. surely you dont want to ship it all the way to wellies,... conveniently cracker im just around the corner from ya, my tank is just singing out for a sea urchin...
  3. I'll answer my own question (from saltaquarium.about.com) It appears to be a pale rock-boring urchin (Echinometra mathaei) - it's about the closest resemblence I could find!
  4. what benefit do they provide? just another janitor, part of the clean up crew i assume?
  5. your tank has not fully cycled properly if you are reading any nitrite. once nitrite is gone, you will read nitrate. once nitrate is gone, you will have happy tank
  6. rxt = closed loops, rlt = high head (pressure rated)
  7. either use NSW immediately or allow it to sit in the dark for at least a couple months
  8. yeah plumbing is a killer. sure brian, some plumbing cant be re-used but alot can. when you're talking $35 for a 1" union ball valve (reuseable) and you have about 10 of them, there's $350 just like that. add on hansen fittings (also reuseable) anywhere from $5 to $20 each and a bit of long pressure piping and voila, there is $1k+ just like that. my plumbing all up i think it probably nearer $1500 :-?
  9. they arrived really quick - what was it brian? 4 or 5 days tops?
  10. now that is some funny sh!t! but seriously, now that i know the price of plumbing, i'd buy it 2nd hand if I had a chance
  11. "a snail" - yeah that would be about all you'd need
  12. let me see, tank as it is lucky to get $5k for it. as 2nd hand parts, $8/kg @ 150kg's of rock theres $1200, tank and plumbing $400, skimmer $700, chiller $700, calcium reactor $400, corals and fish $700, pumps $1000, refugium and contents $500, oceans motions $300, lighting $400, miscellaneous (test kits, refractometer, topup barrel, nozzles, powerheads etc etc etc) $800,... man there is heaps more than this and I'm already over $7k at very conservative pricing...
  13. soooo, your tank is not subjected to forces of gravity right now? you know your tank moves when the world rotates huh? only difficult thing it tidal change. i really dont think corals would be influenced that much between the ocean and your tank (so long as most other factors are taken care of - excluding perfect water chemistry) i have a moonlight that comes on after the actinics go off all night - you can almost see the dirty little buggers going for it...
  14. parts most definately. get HEAPS more for it.
  15. what do flatworms look like? are they the little dots in the pic? what stores here sell rowaphos? i just cant seem to get my acro's to colour up (well, they are but bloody slowly) - at that price im willing to give it a try too.
  16. true that pies - however you could always go big now then look for a house with a big front door
  17. in just 3 days?!!! how long was it 'brown' prior to rowaphos being used?
  18. that is quite funny, mine did the same. took it out and thought the motor had blown or something. one of the wires on the nzl plug was a bit touch and go so re wired it and it was sweet. mine come on with the lights too. i noted you said "stream" (note: singular, not plural) for $500...
  19. i could possibly be around - PM me if you're interested in a cold beer
  20. moving lights? now that would be an eye sore. aesthetically would this work? do you mean moving constantly back and forth or over a period of time? I havent seen the sun do this in the last 31 years (oops, did i just give away my age? ) but maybe it would work...? i got dedicated 20amp circuit for ALL my marine kit which is WAY overkill. still, it was easier that way coz we were re-wiring the house anyway! btw, nice pic pies, whats wrong with your hands? doing a little dance mate?
  21. nice dude! an 8 footer by the looks? i like this pic of ya acro!
  22. but it's not solely the LFS' fault! he should have done his own research prior to buying an anemone.
  23. exactly. but unfortunately thats probably the approach some LFS take so will sell the poor unsuspecting consumer anything for a buck
