    penductors

a good idea if anyone is running a closed loop with a pressure rated pump. here's the link to penductors (essentially a small educator): http://www.kthsales.com/website/Misc/hello_salt_water_enthusiasts.htm or here: http://www.myreefcreations.com/penductor.htm and here's a before (with just loc-line) and after (with penductor) shot taken from a forum on reef central. quite an amazing difference... you NEED a pressure rated pump such as an Iwaki, and you will probably find that the back pressure on the pump will cause wear and tear so the impellors wont last as long (guessing here, based on how it works)
  2. only reason i ask is that i see alot of tanks on reefcentral being made this way - and they ARE made of glass. most opting for this method to gain extra space inside the tank. i'll see if i can dig up some links...
  3. ok, but when you have a tank you're working on the fact that the centre brace(s) doesnt become unglued... EVER. would two thinner centre braces either side of the overflow work then? or even a PSR (pies steel rod) special? i think strength would be just as good, and given two centre braces rather than a single central one, would give some good redundancy just incase the worst happened and one did become unglued. touch glass.
  4. but of course dude, it's also the same as life,... no regrets, you make do with what you have! pies, im not so sure on the strength issue - what if you had two centre braces, one on each side of the 'notch'. i cant see how the glass strength would be worse if you had these. the pressure is greatest at the bottom, not the top. if anyone can explain otherwise, im open ears!
  5. if i had designed mine again, i would have done single overflow outside the back in the middle. also would have considered drilling the returns (however, my preference would still be the sea-swirls). i did a quick pic to show you what i would have liked... (alternately, leave the 2 return holes undrilled and have 2 sea swirls instead) many on reefcentral, ultimatereef etc are getting their tank overflows done like this. twin overflows is way overkill for a 5 footer, it will just cost you more money for glass and plumbing. waste of time.

well, if he makes money out of it, good on him... if the buyer is none the wiser yet is happy with his purchase, then so be it. i'd sell my mother for a pack of smokes... nah kidding, coz i dont smoke, so a tenner would suffice...

i got a star polyp for sale - thats a single star polyp about 1mm across for $25... oh, and tropical hermit crabs for $15 each...
  9. not trouble, but a waste of time and money if you ask me. you'll hardly ever see them - most are far too shy.
  10. not the only fish suitable, but definately one of them. how about a little chromis?
  11. im almost tempted to throw a few bob towards it just to put this bullshit to rest...
  12. i stick to 25 degree's, I've read you can run into algae problems any higher (or put a better way, bad algaes are more prone to growth at that temperature)
  13. hahahaaa, most probably a 12 year old school boy with no money and no friends. $150 new is almost a joke in itself, even a wholesaler who can buy one at that price would be laughing. i have 2 x 1060's for sale (second hand) and want $120 each for them. not sure whether i'll sell both (so bloody handy to have as they're grunty little pumps), i'll sell at least one 1060 though if anyone is interested for $120 (no offers otherwise i'd rather keep hold of it!) - and moderators please dont move this to private trade and exchange, i'll only sell if someone happens to read this and needs one
  14. that is certainly in my books one of the ultimate fish to own, they are amazingly beautiful, but as reef says too difficult to keep - too much so for me I wouldnt even bother putting a moorish idol's life in jeopardy. perhaps one day when i get my self-contained, self-feeding 1000 gallon in wall tank
  15. i found this guys claw (or maybe another one like him as it looked a bit bigger) sitting on the sand near the front of the tank tonight. something likes the taste of them it seems
  16. whadda loser, man i hate when people do that. a real waste of your time. at least rnb will buy it off ya now for the right price
  17. who purchased the Ro/DI meter thro marine depot? zat vas me. tds meter to be precise, total dissolved solids. i can loan on trade of nice orange acro frag
  18. $120 is about right.
  19. hahahaaa, missed that. ok so add a year onto it!!! thought it was too good to be true
  20. Whoa! so what did you do in the last 2 1/2 months?!
  21. i reckon he rocks! stoked with the photo too. its cool when you find things you didnt know that existed in your tank. im sure there are plenty more inverts i dont know about.
  22. found a little colourful crab sitting inside my birds nest coral. wasnt sure whether he was using it for shelter or having a feed anyone seen/know what type of crab this is?
  23. ok Brendan, I'm willing to give it a shot. I am neutral on this subject, purely because I dont know enough about it to comment. As they say, "the proof is in the pudding". I dont mind being a test case SO LONG AS you can provide some reading material prior to giving it a go. I dont particularly like adding things if I dont know how they work.
