    MAF Shake Up

they... would... get... out... a... big... magnifying... glass....
  4. i wonder if i could swap out my glass brace for a ss rod setup now? would be easy enough cutting the brace out, just how to slide the rod to the centre. too risky? advantages are of course easier access and better lighting to the tank.
  5. i believe so too. therefore should go 12mm on the front/back and 10mm sides and bottom. kermit - if you phone rod can you ask him the difference in price and post back here? would be interested to see the actual difference.
  6. under no means should you sacrifice convenience for tank strength. i have about a 4 inch glass centre brace - while it is inconvenient by reducing light levels and making the tank (slightly) harder to access, i'd rather have it that way than have a broken tank - especially considering the investment that i've made and the loss of money and time i'd incur because of something that seems so trivial.

    Tomini Tang

ASW ate tommy the tommi tang
  8. yeah that would be it. the seawater ate my fish.
  9. based on what i've seen, this is too small. why dont you do what pies did and use a stainless steel rod?
  10. must be the time of the year. i had a blue damsel in my fuge and now he's disappeared. cant find him ANYWHERE. i checked the overflow and piping to the sump. not in sump, not in rocks, not even on the floor. whats up with that?! maybe he jumped/fell out and got eaten by insects real quick?!

    new tank

yup, 10mm glass, 1500x600x600. $320 to be precise and it included an overflow. rod's a nice bloke too.
  12. weather has been crap in auckland for ages too, i havent changed in about 8 weeks - and it shows with the increased algae growth in the fuge the weather has stopped raining for a couple of days though so went down this morning and swapped out 200 litres (about 20%) which is not as much as i'd like but better than nothing. the corals have responded well to the change especially my purple bubble coral - the colour so much more vivid. the rest of the corals have fully extended polyps.

    new tank

yeah, you should see it, its a monster... and im not talking about my tank...
  14. must have missed that post...

    new tank

depth of field = provides much better viewing aquascaping = more options laying out your rocks more surface area = better air/surface ratio for gas exchange more water volume = less chance a small change will effect tank lost in auckland = get a map rod lives in port waikato i believe - not so far from you then

    new tank

what do you mean lost? aucklands only small call Rod (at about 9:30am) on (09) 232-9781. he built me a marine tank, 1500x600x600 for about $300. i would get wider than 500 if i were you. go 600 minimum. also plan the tank out first and get holes drilled for closed loops.
  17. hell yes, depth of field is certainly tops! just look at steve weasts tank
  18. yeah right, for 4.5k, would YOU bid on it? arguably it may have the love daddy skimmer, but its not mentioned so who knows. 6 unanswered questions leaves alot to be desired... it appears to be 2m long and 1m high - i just copied/pasted into paintshop and did the measurements and it works out about right. just quite deceiving because it's only 450mm wide. still, it looks like the great wall of china to me
  19. i'd just put them all in a blender and pour them in
  20. Traffic in Auckland City ANYTIME (except for Sunday morning at 1am ) = CRAP. Give yourself plenty of time. Reef, bet I could move it (after I take out all the SPS and put in my tank!)
  21. interesting, i have plenty of these little buggers but never knew they were THAT much of a pest... http://www.garf.org/news26p2.html#STAR http://www.garf.org/STAR/starfish.html

  23. While I dont think 'old NSW' from someone else's tank will make a significant difference, rock and sand from someone else's tank most certainly will. That rock will have plenty of good organisms/bacteria on it that will help 'seed' your new rock. This will help speed up the cycling process as you are introducing larger colonies of good bacteria immediately, rather than waiting for them to multiply. These bacteria will help speed up cycling (breaking down ammonia to nitrite to nitrate then lastly to nitrogen gas)
  24. i'd go wider than that andrew! 500 aint much. go 650 minimum. i went 600 and wish i'd gone more
