  1. and there's the other problem - most dont even take that step - taking people to small claims court is a mission in itself - and thats another topic completely :-? dont you just love the nzl court system
  2. if it's for a closed loop, then work out what flow rate you want and get the most suited pump at 0' head. also look at the size of the inlet and outlet's on the pump - important to match your design. most are either 3/4", 1" or 1.5". restrict the inlet and outlets as little as possible (in other words, if it's a 1" outlet, match the plumbing to it. this will greatly dictate cost too as plumbing is expensive) if it's for a return, work out what flow rate you need at X head height. match the pump to that. iwaki RLT's are awesome for high head. Reefonline.com.au are also expensive. ask her for a better price.
  3. ...but then in checking out the web site, read this: http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=MM2136 down the bottom it does say "Units can now be wired for 230V" ??? wired for 230V?
  4. copy of the email (mind you, this was back on 23 November 2004):
  5. only dolphin and iwaki from the one's that marinedepot sells. already enquired about that
  6. true but completely irrelevant. it's a living creature, even if it only lives in a tank - it should never get to this in the first place - both for the 'creatures' wellbeing (and from a business sense, the customers wallet) so how is it tonight? getting better or heading downhill? make sure you keep an eye out, if it dies it will stink and pollute your tank pretty quickly.
  7. again 115V though. look out for dolphin ampmaster 'world' version. great for closed loop. awesome flow, low power consumption (not good for high head though)
  8. rock is (generally) more dense than water therefore heavier, if you want to get into specifics... my point is you need to factor in everything - even if you over estimate a bit or add a percentage of the tank and water.
  9. im not one for liking workarounds, if it were me i'd opt to pay an extra $100 and get it in 220V
  10. It was not abuse, it was constructive criticism. And I think Fay is right, I tend to blame the shops more!
  11. yup, http://www.oceansmotions.com/forum/
  12. still sounds like a reasonable size, still 400 odd litres. 1200 would fit a couple of halides rather than the need for three whilst still giving good lighting coverage (depending on number of acro's, general rule is 1 halide per 2 foot), 700 deep means you can have a good amount of substrate at the front giving it depth or at least the impression of it! perhaps a couple of OM squirts would be better/cheaper then? two closed loops independant of each other, running a OM squirt on each. couple of iwaki 30RXT's would be ideal for the closed loop. or maybe even a single OM squirt would be sufficient? check the OM forums. another iwaki for return suited to the your head height from your sump.
  13. yeah, what pies said but the main thing is keep it simple. less complication means less things to go wrong sea-swirl rotating return device - exactly that, rotates side to side, used for return. oceans motions separate (although you could push your return through one) however i'd keep the oceans motion on a closed loop separate.
  14. 100ml's... I'd take a guess at $25?

The Seio's will be the schiznit in your tank - I'm well impressed with them for such a low price
  17. to continue on from my last post, if it is indeed the family Heteractis crispa (or H. malu) Here's a description of them:
  18. an anemone will move to a spot it likes rather than you putting it in a place you like. the amount of light depends on the type of anemone too. what family does it belong too? from the name, it sounds like Heteractis crispa. defined as a 'difficult to keep' anemone.
  19. Im not teaching you to suck eggs, but you really should have read up about them and learnt prior to putting it in your tank. You should also have got M/H lighting prior as well etc FIRST. Not because it would have been easier for you, but better off for the Anemone and IT'S livelihood.
  20. indeed. so the solenoid needs to be "normally closed". get a UPS
  21. sounds like a brilliant plan. add me to the list
  22. yeah, a laughter pill - it's a must have unfortunately I have to make my own amusement on this site... then again brian, alan and steve crack me up with their dry sense of humour some of the time!
