  1. ambiguous humour. even funnier you are confused
  2. As most of you are probably aware, I have a closed loop (ampmaster and oceans motions) and now a couple powerheads (seio's) to summarise, they are: closed loop = one dolphin pump @ 13,500lph, flow alternates via 4 tank inlets covering the top and middle regions of the tank powerheads = two M1100's @ 9,000lph, flow directed to each far end of the tank covering the middle and lower regions of the tank I currently have the closed loop running 24x7 and the powerheads will come on when the main lights come on (so from 11am til 9pm) What is the best way to have this: 1. Leave as is 2. Swap them around (so Seio's are 24x7 and closed loop comes on with the lights) I figure as is is probably best, but does anyone have any good reasons for and against each method? or is it reasonably irrelevant?
  3. Still playing around with where they will sit and the angle the flow will give. Here's the left and right M1100's... I just bought a couple floating magnet's off trademe too getting sick of having to move from one side to another! for the sake of $20 its gotta be good for ya.
  4. yeah, added 2 x seio's M1100's tonight. that's roughly another 9,000 lph of flow bringing it up to a little over 50x turnover. i couldnt afford streams (well, i can but the wife wont let me coz she thinks she should get her new bathroom first so for the money, the seio's are pretty damn good. the flow is nice and wide as opposed to a narrow 'jetted' stream. anyone with around 4 foot tanks i would highly recommend you contact jetskisteve and get a couple of M800's for around a couple hundred bucks (thats for BOTH of them) i'll chuck a pic up soon (although lights are out now so we'll see how it comes out!)

    Italian TOTM

i like it too. the colours are so wicked that they almost seem fake
  6. nothing wrong with cheap dude (from the monetary sense of the word) so long as you have quality or effect. a classic example is the seio's, while they are inexpensive, they produce the right effect. deltec skimmers are another example, obviously having both quality and effect
  7. A MAC? That's a big truck or a hamburger isn't it?
  8. i may write a program for everyone - if everyone gives me some decent feedback as to how they think it should look and what it should contain
  9. an interesting read... http://encyclopedia.lockergnome.com/s/b/Great_Barrier_Reef
  10. General information - interesting to know... Apron reef — short reef resembling a fringing reef, but more sloped; extending out and downward from a point or peninsular shore. Fringing reef — reef extending directly out from a shoreline, and more or less following the trend of the shore. Barrier reef — reef separated from a mainland or island shore by a lagoon; see Great Barrier Reef. Patch reef — an isolated, often circular reef, usually within a lagoon or embayment. Ribbon reef — long, narrow, somewhat winding reef, usually associated with an atoll lagoon. Table reef — isolated reef, approaching an atoll type, but without a lagoon. Atoll reef — a more or less circular or continuous barrier reef surrounding a lagoon without a central island
  11. here's a good overview for breeding. some sites say dont use LR in the tank as it can cause bacterial infection. oh, and a good porn movie helps according to this site  http://www.petstation.com/clownfish.html
  12. oh well, at least i can blame you brian when my seio's blow up  ...but for the price, are you really concerned?!
  13. so was i when i hit the $5k mark,... then i hit another $5k,... then another $5k then i had my crisis then i felt better again...
  14. you r sh!tting me steve - $2 sells power point plugs that cheap? or do you mean 6 lots of $2 coins
  15. sweet as dude, looking forward to getting my M1100's as well! already got a couple of power plugs to fit on! dont go dick smith, they're a rip off. try an electrical store. i think one will be sufficient in your tank until you upgrade,... 100x turnover = washing machine!
  16. i have a korallin too, a c3001 which is rated heaps bigger than my tank volume. however i figure the media will simply last longer more than anything else. they come with a circulation pump (small eheim) on top and builtin bubble counter. mine doesnt have solenoid either and runs 24x7. i want to get a solenoid though to control when it runs. i gravity feed mine at the moment, its a pain though because for some reason the water level in the reactor keeps dropping - im assuming because the valve that controls the drip rate back to the aquarium is screwed so sucks air backwards! it never used to do it. i feed the return out the top. i use a tunze 7077/2 regulator which i bought from here: http://www.reefonline.com.au/shop/product_info.php?products_id=209
  17. how classic, thats what i was planning to do in the next few months too - although i was going to have it share the main tank water to make maintaining water chemistry alot easier. concentrate on the fun part of breeding, watching and learning!

    clams

nah, that's pretty funny! should change your screen name to mariemone though while you're on the subject, what are clams worth and are they that easy to obtain? i'd be keen on one too at some stage. brian - why dont you get rid of everything from your tank and just get a Tridacna gigas  Actually,... even pies/reefs tank would be too small for this one (can grow to a maximum 1.5 metres!) i've read if you get one, try and get it still attached to a rock as removal can rip the byssus gland which can cause bacterial infection leading to death.
  19. only snorkeling for me but diving is definately on the (huge) LIST of things to achieve for this year
