  1. had that same question earlier this year for DOC and bio-securities, they had never heard of it, and told me it was legal to sell. but imo it should be classed as an invasive species, so I only sell it to people who want snail farms for dwarf puffers. best info for ID'ing limnaea sp. that I found said to look at the direction of spiral, theres also a long spiral species around
  2. if nitrite is that high, then i would assume ammonia is high as well, especially since nitrate is at 0. short term fix would be ammo lock or a live bacteria solution. but here, for your reading pleasure
  3. you can get them for irrigation in a range of sizes
  4. try the gold ones then. btw I put a few in an out door pond at the start of summer and now have about 2000 or so swimming around....
  5. I had a collection of retarded fish, including hermaphrodite guppies (colour of a male, size of a big female), A gold severum with no top jaw (looked like the muppet aliens) a jewel with no tail, many different balloon fish. my ultimate aim was to get a 2 headed molly. im not too keen on shipping NZ natives around, im sure there is some one more local that will help you locate some, or else if your in TGA look me up and i'll show you a couple of spots.
  6. :iag: my tanks are lightly stocked planted tanks with a 2 outlet air driven undergravel, so lotsa surface agitation. btw had a dwarf puffer in with them for a week now, no killings yet
  7. Black ones are the more ocmmon ones and tend to be in massive flocks, making them a lot more destructive, but im hating on all swans, some geese and several species of duck (and a single pukeko)
  8. have been running some shrimp at 25-26 degrees with no problems for over 9 months now. the creek I catch them from I have measured at 26 degrees before, and im sure it gets hotter
  9. lol, got a crypt at the moment that has Cyano growing on it and it looks identical
  10. what about a water boatman, or diving bug. Dragonfly larvae are cool too
  11. they are absolutely devastating on Aquatic plants, the sea grass beds in Tauranga get a hammering, saw a flock of about 20 land off matua once near low tide, i walked out less than 10 minutes later and saw that they had each ripped up an area about 1.5m wide and dug it down to about 1/2m deep, so assume 20 swans, thats 45m2 of prime marine habitat destroyed in under 10 minutes. they cull around 3-500 (probably a lot more) every year
  12. was the 70% WC at the same temp as the tank?? when you say high what do you mean, Fighters do best at 27 degrees. tbh im seriously surprised you have had no earlier dramas from this, though you do say it's your 3rd fighter....

    Hi there!

hello seems to be a few wellingtonians recently
  14. I pesronally would remove both females asap, either they will attack the male or if he goes spawning mode, bye bye to both females
  15. pretty little creek. did you see anything else in there???
  16. how big is the tank if its holding 1 male and 2 females??? or are they seperated??
  17. :iag: :iag: but as long as it doesn't become completely unaffordable
  18. still no reason to be cruel. I couldn't believe the damage they can do in a couple of minutes in TGA harbour, but then they organised culls which are done humanely and the meat gets used. (Swan salami is delish)
