    Red devil cichlid

well I guess that only about half will survive. The largest will eat the smaller ones. And then hopefully I can get rid of them.
  8. They are not easy to breed so chances are there wont be any breeders here. They are about $40 i think.

    Red devil cichlid

They accidently breed them and said they would only use them as food. He has about 400 of them so doesnt have the tank space to raise them. So they would only have them culled or feed to other fish. I should be getting about 10 this weekend. Do they dig??
  10. Hey Is there a market for these fish? Im given an oppitunity to raise some fry but I want to be able to sell them. Would anyone here want some? thanks

    Angelfish questions

It wasnt really about the money. I am going away on holiday at the end of the year and just wanted to make sure my family didnt have to look after tiny fish. I also still have to pay off all the money I put into the hobby.
  12. Hey I just went to feed my fish and noticed that 2 of my 6 angel fish were hanging around my filter inlet. I looked up and the female was dropping eggs and there were a few attached to the pipe and the male was eating them. I am pretty sure that was their first spawning so I will give them another few chances. Did they eat the eggs because they were threatened? How long till angelfish are a selling size? thanks

    Notho question

Hey I know that eggs from the nothobranchius species dont start developing until they leave the water and the peat is only damp. But how long is it safe to keep the eggs in the water for. 2-3 months? or more? Will there be a lower hatch rate from the eggs that are kept in water for longer or any other side effects? thanks
  14. There were probably alot more than 2 fry to start with but they just got eaten. When my platties breed the fry looked orange and just like a miniture version of its parents. My guess is they are albino corydoras as they have pink and are quite big.
  15. I think they have some at redwoods $44 a pair.
  16. I used to breed them, if you get them to breed I wouldnt mind getting a few back into my tanks. So let me know. heres some info They are called Apistogramma nijsseni and grow upto 5cm, females smaller. Give them acidic water (ph 5.5-6.5) and a simple cave and they should breed. When I breed them the cave was a flat stone with the flat side on the gravel, under the stone was a very small entrance just big enough for the male and female to fit in there.

    Eels

What substrate/gravel do these guys bury into? Do you see them much, or do they just hide until they want to feed? What would some good tank mates be? What size do they get to? Would they be a good fish to train to hand feed and be friendly, stuff like that, kind of like and oscar? thanks

    Mosquito Fish

Are mosquito those fish you find at nearly every little stream around??
  19. I have 6 large angel fish, I guess I would have to put them in another tank.
  20. Hey Could someone tell me how to figure out how many fish you can have in your tropical tank? Also by adding an airstone eg. does this increase the amount of fish you can have? thanks
  21. I noticed last time that the fry stayed around the mother so if the mother cant leave that area the fry shouldnt either. I will then remove the fry when they are big enough to be causght safety.
  22. My apistos breed in my community tank and last time that happened most of the fry got eaten. SO I want to section off a part for the mother and eggs.

    who here....

    Imports tropical freshwater fish?
  24. I don't know much about christchurch but I know a bit about the prosses of importing them. You need a whole transaction facility approved by MAF and I certificate and a lot more. www.maf.govt.nz should have all the files you need to download. There are a few importers into NZ but I dont know anyone that does. I think christchurch has a place called redwoods aquatics which is one of the bigger places to buy fish in NZ and I think they can import what fish you want depending on their suppliers. http://www.redwoodaquatics.co.nz/ you should give them an email Welcome to the fish room
