  1. If i wanted to set one up, would I be able to go grab some crabs, mangroves and some small schooling fish from the estuary just down the road legaly? I have also seen what I think is called a "mantis shrimp" with big claws and is quite colourful. Would I need a raised part of sand so it creates an island effect? Would I be able to use water down from the estuary aswell? thanks
  2. cories lay their eggs out in the open and usually get eaten so its beast to remove the eggs, you can feed them crushed up spirulina disks or shrimp pellets, but it depends how big they are at the moment.
  3. white cloud mountain minnow. If you want a tetra to breed you could try congo tetra's. They have large numbers of eggs and are supost to be easy. From what I can recall they are $12 each for adults, $10 for smaller ones.

neither of the fish look dyed and I would never buy a dyed fish, but i guess GE'ed fish would be ok.

  11. I think there are some importers here that can supply you. You should learn how to maintain a marine tank before you even think about breeding fish. As for the equipment I think it depends on what type of tank you want, reef, fish only. You will have to buy water salt and additives for the water but ask someone else how much they cost. Also alot of test kits. Go with the biggest tank you can for the fact that the water will be more stable, you maybe could even have a sump. If only I lived in figi or the philippines again then I could go catch my own fish.
  12. Has anyone seen them in NZ? they look so cute. I wouldnt mind getitng some when I get back from holiday next year.
  13. you could try feeding them to your fish, or maybe just one fish just incase.
  14. at one of my LFS cardinals are about $7 each. Is this normal? or maybe it is glowlight tetra, I havnt been there for a while.
  15. could just be daphnia that have been eating algae
  16. if that is what everyone thought neons wouldnt be in NZ any more.
  17. honey gourami's, pearl gourami's, blue or three stripe gourami's. Bassicly all of the smaller gouramis are peaceful. Guppies, platties, swordtails. Also bronze corydoras as good for cleaning the bottom of the tank. Bristlenose catfish are good for cleaning the glass and are peaceful. Maybe even some killifish or small south american cichlids. Iv had all these fish in the same tank together and had no problems.

    HELP

well I just put the male down, a quick crush of the head. He wasnt looking to good. lying down on his side and could hardly swim.
  19. Neons have tiny fry i think so you might have to feed infusorians, liquid food or get shrimp pellets and rub then against another shrimp pellet, this creates a cloud of tiny particals small enough to feed tiny fish.
  20. aussie is the only county harder to import things into than NZ.

    HELP

Now my male cockatoo is acting the same as the female was before she died. They have been in different tanks for over a month. This is weird as.
  22. I dont have any left, they all died. I dont know why, the water was fine, temp fine, pH 7. Then the male died soon after then the female, both from stupid injuries.
  23. What is a non-annual old world killi, what is a non-annual new world killi, what is a annual new world killi and what is a annual old world killi. My guess is that old world killies are from africa and new worlds are from America. Is that correct?
  24. I have heard of annual new world, annual old world, non-annual new world and non-annual old world.
  25. I would go for a large external filter with as much circulation as possible and a spray bar. I have a tank of similar size and have 2 300 watt heaters and the largest Via-Aqua external power filter available.
