  1. For bits of drift wood I just throw them in a pot of boiling water, or if I don't have access to a large enough pot I just tip boiling water over it. I have never dried it out in the sun, guess I am just to impatient.
  2. is it another TF2 fan I see on here?
  3. A large school of tetras or something like that? Raspora's? Gourami?
  4. The tank has more fish in then just the parents, and with out the parents protecting them the Hoplos would just eat them, and unfortunately I don't have another tank to move them into to grow out in. After this weekend there is only about two dozen left now. If I have managed to stop my GT's growing ant larger then 7ish cm then I am onto something, start selling dwarf GT's. Serious note, I heard that starting breeding early slowed down there growth, and maybe decreased their maximum size by a little bit due to the energy they use to breed, but I havnt heard of it stopping them growing any further.
  5. You have an interesting concept of 'property' there. You are arguing that they can not own lakes or water ways or 'ecosystems'. The logical conclusion of this is that you can not own land either (I think you would find a lot of angry NZer's if you tried to tell them that land and houses they bought isnt their's). If you cant own land then things that you build on it (houses) are obviously in the 'not owned' category either. That seems to my 'western' perspective that ownership of lakes by calling it property makes sense. Even the first definition you gave of taonga they could have owned it Land and lakes is able to be 'property procured by the spear’ as the literal meaning of this is that they claimed the land through conquest either from the previous inhabitants or from the 'wilderness'. My point is that I find your argument a bit painfull to read as you are using the definition of taonga to claim that they don't have the right to demand usage charges, but they do as all of NZ can be called property, and your definitions of Taonga can say that all of NZ is it. They also have a valid claim to the lake through ancestral rights, and it was given to them by the crown in 2007. So they are well within there rights to claim that ussage charges need to be paid the same way as farmers have the right to charge to if you want to run over/around there farm.
  6. It is disrespectful to call them 'whores' as whore is the derogatory name for a prostitute, it is ok to call them prostitutes if they are that, but the word 'whore' is only used if you are meaning to insult them and/or disrespect them.
  7. Do it, then post pictures on here. :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:
  8. According to Oxford dictionary: Whore noun derogatory -a prostitute. -a promiscuous woman. As it is specified as a derogatory word I dont think we should be using it on a family friendly forum. Although as it was used as a quote it might have been appropriate although it may have been in bad taste when used there. Other then that I have managed to get my senagal birchirs to eat pallets instead of blood worms now. :happy2: :happy1: :happy2: :happy1:
  9. The bristle noses will need a bit of driftwood in the tank for there health. Other then that I would add more rasbora to you school.
  10. Welcome, I am sure you will make friends, and there is lots of good information on here.
  11. I Would have to agree with alanmin about not wanting to live in a cloud of insecticide vapour. Personally I dont even spray fly spray around my fish tanks, the risk is to great, and I am happier ignoring them or killing them with a fly swat.
  12. Welcome, I hope you have an informative time here.
  13. The best photo I could get of the fry, ignore the BBA, I am in an endless battle to kill the last of it.
  14. They have now absorbed all their egg sacks, and are freeish swimming, is there any thing special that I should feed them?
  15. I am not a FNZAS member as I have never got around to doing it/worked out how to do it, but I have been intending on doing it for a while.
  16. I came home from a weekend away to find that my GT (gold saum) have spawned. I wasn't expecting that to happen for a while as they are still small at 5-6 cm. is there any thing I should do to help hatch the eggs, or should I just leave them in the pot cave that the female has claimed and is protecting from any other fish from going near? Also should the male be helping to protect the eggs as he is just swimming on the other side of the tank begging for food like he normally does.
  17. Welcome, nice to see new members.
  18. Just a tip if you are dosing with a medicine you will need to remove the charcoal as the charcoal will remove any medicine that you add to the water before it has all its effect. Other then that what Sunbird73 said and keep up the water changes. Good luck with your fish. edit: And if you dont think you will be able to cope with the tank size requirements of these fish it may be easier to sell/give them away before you get attached to them.
  19. So happy, my GT's have finally stopped hating each other, they hanging out together, and attacking the other fish in the tank instead of each other, hopefully this means I will have little GT babies some time in the future. :happy1: :happy1: :happy1:
  20. Welcome to fnzas, I hope you have an enjoyable and informative time here. Your tanks sound cool, looking forward to seeing pictures of them.
  21. this thread is a bit out dated, but it should give you the gist of how to do it.
